Fantasy Baseball Weekly Projections: Top Hitters and Pitchers to Consider

We have discussed fantasy baseball waiver wire hitting and starting pitching options for Monday already, and are now going to check in on some more possible pickups based on weekly projections.

Hitters

Curtis Mead - Boston Red Sox

Mead is owned in 65% of fantasy baseball leagues right now. He just got traded to Boston from Washington (we'll cover that in a story to come) and is projected for a big week across seven games with his new club.

Across 87 games and 327 plate appearances with Washington this season, Mead had a .254 average and .352 on-base percentage. He had 17 doubles and home runs, plus a triple, among his 72 total hits, plus 48 RBIs, 49 runs scored, 39 walks, six stolen bases and 62 strikeouts.

He's played third base and first base primarily, with some starts at second base thrown in. Boston didn't acquire him to watch him ride the bench, so expect him in the lineup daily, getting starts somewhere.

He's worth some adds as he goes to a better team. He's projected to fare very well in his first week with the team, and if he does, his own percentage could skyrocket, so be ready to pounce if you don't want to make the move right now.

Caleb Durbin - Boston Red Sox

Durbin is another Boston hitter projected for a big week. He's owned in roughly 56% of fantasy leagues right now.

Durbin has been the team's third baseman primarily this season, but played second base and some shortstop while in Milwaukee next season. Durbin could be moved around to get Mead into the lineup, which could in turn bump Durbin's fantasy value up.

Across 97 games and 357 plate appearances this season, Durbin has a .237 average and .302 OBP. He has 18 doubles, 10 homers and a triple among his 76 total hits, plus 44 RBIs, 45 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 24 walks and 50 strikeouts.

He has a couple multi-hit games of late, but some hitless appearances too. Durbin is a better deep-league fantasy asset as a result, but if he gets hot this week, he could be worth trying in standard leagues, so be watching his results.

Nick Gonzales - Pittsburgh Pirates

Gonzales is set for seven games this week, and is rostered in about 59% of leagues right now.

Gonzales has been hot at the plate of late, and most of the season for that matter. He owns a .313 average and .369 OBP over 100 games and 412 plate appearances.

He has 17 doubles, six homers and a triple among his 118 total hits. Gonzales has 47 RBIs, 58 runs scored, 28 walks, 73 strikeouts and four stolen bases.

Gonzales primarily plays third base, but should also be eligible at second - he could be eligible at shortstop too, which bumps his value up even more. I think he's underappreciated in the fantasy baseball world, and deserves more ownership/utilization. See if Gonzales is worth trying over the infielders you currently roster.

Joc Pederson - Texas Rangers

Pederson is only owned in 9% of fantasy leagues. He has seven games he could play in this week, and is projected to fare really well.

He has a seven-game hitting streak going right now, with 11 knocks over that span. Pederson has four doubles and two home runs among the hits.

Pederson now owns a .251 average and .341 OBP over 94 games and 318 plate appearances this season. He has 11 doubles, 17 home runs and two triples among his 69 total hits, plus 36 RBIs, 42 runs scored, 36 walks and 70 strikeouts - he's stolen two bases.

If he's eligible other than at designated hitter, then Pederson has a bit more fantasy value, but in the leagues where he's just eligible at DH, it's hard to justify adding him in more than just deep, deep leagues. He's trending up of late though, and is projected for a big week, so he could be worth adding for more deep-league owners.

Isaac Paredes - Houston Astros

Paredes has just six games scheduled, so he's projected to perform really well. He sits at 68% rostered right now.

Paredes has a few multi-hit efforts of late, so his bat is pretty hot. He has a .260 average and .352 OBP over 100 games and 423 plate appearances now.

He has 18 doubles, 14 homers and a triple among his 95 total hits. Paredes has 57 RBIs, 43 runs scored, 40 walks and 64 strikeouts as well.

The primary third baseman could also be eligible at first base, and he's played some second base too. The more spots he's eligible at, the better his overall value is. Paredes is trending up of late, and that makes him a very good deep-league asset, and maybe worth trying in some standard leagues, at least until his bat cools off a little bit.

Pitchers

Cade Cavalli - Washington Nationals

Cavalli has two starts lined up for the week ahead. He's owned in 65% of leagues.

He will be facing the Blue Jays and Braves. Each lineup has big names, but has underperformed so far this season.

Cavalli has not allowed over two earned runs in any of his past three starts, which have all lasted six innings. He has 22 strikeouts over that span. He has a 3.58 earned run average over 22 starts and 110 2/3 innings this season, plus a 7-4 record and 127 strikeouts.

So Cavalli has pitched well most of the season, and is trending up of late. In a couple of solid matchups, Cavalli is a good deep-league option, and could be considered in standard leagues too.

Brady Singer - Cincinnati Reds

Singer is owned in just 35% of leagues going into a two-start week.

He gets the Guardians and Pirates in his scheduled starts. Those are two pretty good matchups, and ones Singer could surprise in.

Singer has allowed three or less earned runs in four straight starts - he has lasted at least 6 2/3 innings in all but one of those outings, and he hit five frames in the other game. He has at least five strikeouts in every start over that span, and has 88 punchouts over 103 1/3 innings on the season. Singer has a 5-9 record and 4.53 ERA.

So Singer's season-long numbers aren't the best, but he's pitching better of late, so he's worth some adds/streams this coming week. I like the idea of starting him in deeper leagues for sure, and he also can be a standard league option.

Landen Roupp - San Francisco Giants

Roupp is rostered in 62% of leagues going into a two-start week.

He gets the Brewers and Padres in his matchups. Milwaukee isn't an offense to test most times, while San Diego has big names, but has underperformed most of the season.

Roupp has allowed two or less runs in three straight starts, making it at least six innings in each outing. His strikeout numbers have been up and down, but he has 113 punchouts over 110 innings overall this season. In 20 starts, Roupp is 7-8, but with a solid 3.93 ERA.

I like him in deeper leagues for both of his scheduled starts, but would only really like him in standard leagues for the matchup against the Padres.

Keider Montero - Detroit Tigers

Montero is rostered in roughly 48% of leagues as he gets ready to make two starts this coming week.

Montero has the Orioles and Athletics on the schedule. Those are two pretty good matchups on paper, so we'll see if Montero can deliver.

He has a 3.14 ERA and 7-5 record over 16 starts and 22 appearances this season. Montero has 78 strikeouts over 106 innings pitched. He's not allowed many earned runs of late, but that's partly due to coming out of the bullpen for most of those appearances.

He allowed just one earned run on three hits and no walks (while striking out eight) in a 5 1/3-inning start his last time out, so there's some upside with him. In two good matchups, I like the idea of utilizing Montero in all deeper leagues, while considering him for standard league utilization.
