LeBron James Joins 76ers: How the Signing Impacts Fantasy Basketball and the Rest of the NBA

At long last, we finally know LeBron James' team, and now the NBA offseason can keep rolling along.

The Deal and Some Stats
James is signing a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. It's only worth $8 million, and it has a player option for year two of the deal.
LeBron is 41 years young and going into his 24th NBA season. He still has some gas in the tank too.
In 60 games last season with the Lakers, he averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, 6.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. He played 33.2 minutes a contest, while shooting 51.5% overall and 31.7% from 3-point range.
He joins a new-look Philly team, and gives the team a boost heading into the 2026-27 season.
76ers' Outlook with James
Philadelphia already has Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid, so adding James, even at this stage of his career, is a massive boost for the 76ers and their chances to come out of the Eastern Conference.
Add James to the starting lineup, and throw in the young and growing VJ Edgecombe and the Sixers might have the best starting lineup in the NBA. That starting five makes Philly a playoff shoo-in, and they are one of the top contenders in the East and for the NBA Finals now.
The signing of James will move Dean Wade from a starting spot to the bench. Rookie Labaron Philon Jr., Anfernee Simons, Justin Edwards, Dominick Barlow and Adem Bona are some other notable options off the bench. It's a very, very good roster overall now, and another signing or trade could still be coming yet - we'll cover that if it happens.
Anyways, back to the Sixers. The addition of James is a slight fantasy downgrade for most players on the roster, but the team is much more focused on winning it all, not about statistics.
Expect Maxey, Brown and Embiid to all be high-level fantasy players. Edgecombe should also be a very good option, even if he's one of the last offensive options after the veterans in the starting lineup.
The signing most impacts Wade, and forwards like Edwards and Barlow. It will take some stats away from all the reserve options too.
Again, the Sixers don't care about stats, and between resting the stars for a deep playoff run and true injuries that pop up, I expect more than just the starting five in Philly to be usable fantasy assets.
James' Fantasy Outlook
James isn't the player he once was, but he still stuffs the stat sheet and is a good fantasy asset as a result.
He will have to do even less with the talented roster around him now, but still expect him to fill up the stat sheet and be a good fantasy asset in 2026-27. We'll see exactly where he's going in fantasy drafts before letting you know if he's a good value pick or not.
But I could see him averaging around 20 points again this coming season. With big assist/rebound numbers, James will be a good fantasy asset. Toss in some steals and blocks and you have a clear nightly fantasy starter, and someone that will be beneficial to roster for the coming season.
Expect James to still play 30+ minutes a night, but maybe take a few more games off. If he can reach 60 games played, that would be stellar. It's something to keep in mind when drafting him for fantasy next season though.
Fallout Elsewhere
LeBron was linked to several teams, including a couple former teams (Miami and Cleveland). He was also rumored to Golden State.
With James instead going to Philly, all those other contenders take a big hit. Now they will have to piece their rosters together in other ways. LeBron might be 40+ years old, but most teams would take the veteran over players trying to prove themselves any day.
Like I mentioned early in the article, now that LeBron has signed, expect a bunch of other NBA moves in the days to come - we can reconvene on Monday and cover anything that happens between now and then.
Expect some of the teams I mentioned who were in the LeBron sweepstakes to make some signings or trades. It's been a wild NBA offseason already, and things could get really wild now as teams go to plans B and C to try and improve.
LeBron might not be the force he once was, but his decision still proved to be an NBA-altering one, and a big one at that. We'll see what happens from here.
