Didier Fuentes and Shane Baz Among Friday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitching Adds and Streamers
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
After taking a peek at some fantasy baseball waiver wire hitting options, let's go over a final set of waiver wire pitchers for the week.
We won't cover any pitchers who appeared in waiver stories on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We also will avoid anyone from Friday's streaming article.
Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.
Should You Add Didier Fuentes?
Fuentes is rostered in just 2% of fantasy leagues right now.
He's going to be called up by the Braves to start against the Marlins on Friday night. That's a favorable matchup, so the pitcher making his MLB debut could be in line for a good fantasy outing.
Fuentes is just 20 years old (turned 20 on Tuesday) and is the team's No. 10 prospect. He's got a 45 grade overall, with 55 marks for his fastball and control. Fuentes has a 50 for his slider and 45 mark for his splitter.
He was signed back in 2022, throws right-handed, stands six-feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. Fuentes has pitched in parts of four minor league seasons, and the Braves are going to give him a shot at the big leagues tonight.
He has a career 3.70 earned run average over 185 minor league innings. Fuentes is 4-18 across 44 starts and 48 appearances. He has 223 strikeouts along the way, while having a .227 average against him.
Fuentes has pitched at High-A, Double-A and Triple-A this season. His best numbers are in Triple-A, although he's made just one start there. Fuentes worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and no walks, while striking out six.
It's wild to see a pitching prospect move this quickly through the minor leagues, but the Braves clearly see something they like with Fuentes. Luckily, he gets a favorable fantasy matchup against the Marlins, so he could be in line for a good fantasy showing.
I'd treat him as a streamer, as it's possible he gets sent right back down to develop more. Of course, Fuentes could shine tonight and earn his stay in the big leagues for the long haul, so his final line tonight is worth watching.
I'd be willing to give him some deep-league streaming starts tonight, but would probably avoid him in standard leagues unless you're absolutely desperate and like taking risks. A five-inning start seems pretty likely, and that will limit his fantasy ceiling.
The favorable matchup should allow him to pitch well enough to post an average fantasy score at least, and for that reason, I'd be willing to stream him in some deeper leagues.
Should You Add Brady Singer?
Singer is up 4.2% and sits at 53.37% overall now.
Singer will start on Friday against the Cardinals. He pitched against them back on April 30, taking a loss despite allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six frames. Singer struck out four in that contest.
He's made 14 starts this season, covering 74 2/3 innings. Singer is 7-4 with a 4.34 ERA. He's allowed 39 runs (36 earned) on 68 hits and 32 walks, while also striking out 60.
Singer has been good of late, not allowing over three runs in any of his past six starts. He's 3-2 with a 3.55 ERA over 33 innings in that span, while striking out 21.
He has a decent fantasy floor, while having a bit of a limited fantasy ceiling. Pitching for the Reds does him no favors, although the team has performed well in his outings. Having a good start against the Cards already also gives him a boost tonight.
Singer is a good deep-league streaming asset tonight, and I'd say he's pretty close to being a must-start pitcher. He could also be streamed in some standard leagues tonight, but I'd also guess there's several better options available to you.
Singer might face the Yankees after this, so get him in your fantasy lineup tonight while his matchup is favorable.
Should You Add Hayden Birdsong?
Birdsong is rostered in 47% of leagues. That should rise before he makes his Friday start against the Red Sox.
He's made starts in his past five appearances. Birdsong is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA over 25 innings in that stretch. He's allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 23 hits and nine walks, while striking out 26 batters.
Birdsong hasn't allowed over three runs in any of those outings, but has also failed to reach five innings twice. He's coming off a six-inning appearance.
He has at least four strikeouts in each start he's made, and five of his nine walks came in one outing. Birdsong hasn't faced the Red Sox this season.
Birdsong has a 2.79 ERA overall this season, but don't be fooled by that mark. His ERA as a starter is fine, but Birdsong is not the elite option that overall ERA suggests.
I like the matchup against the Red Sox on Friday and think Birdsong is a good deep-league option. I have no issues streaming him, but won't call him a must-start pitcher because of some of his shortcomings as a starter.
He can also start in some standard leagues tonight. Again though, I think there's some better options available to you.

Should You Add Shane Baz?
Baz is rostered in 64.61% of leagues after a 2.73% increase today.
He will start at home against the Tigers on Friday night. We haven't seen that matchup yet this season.
Baz has made 14 starts, with Tampa Bay going 10-4 in those games. Baz is 6-3 with a 4.54 ERA over 77 1/3 innings. He's allowed 39 runs on 72 hits and 30 walks, while also striking out 71 batters.
His win-loss record is good, and he makes up for a weaker ERA with good strikeout work. Baz has another gear he can reach, and he's been pitching better of late.
Over his past five starts, he's 3-0 with a 3.18 ERA over 28 1/3 innings. Baz has allowed 10 runs on 22 hits and 11 walks, while punching out 23 batters.
That's the pitcher I expect Baz to be on Friday, and for that reason, he's one of the better streaming options out there. The matchup isn't the best, but Baz has shut down some solid offenses this season, so he's more trustworthy.
He's a must-start pitcher in deeper leagues for me tonight, and I'd be willing to start him in most standard leagues as well. Baz isn't a must-start pitcher in standard leagues, but he's my favorite option that we've discussed today, and is worth more streaming starts on Friday.
Should You Add Greg Weissert?
We'll end with a reliever in Weissert, who is rostered in 11% of leagues.
He's already pitched in 36 games this season. Weissert is 2-1 with three saves, two blown saves and 13 holds. He's covered 34 innings, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) on 27 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 32 batters.
All of his saves have come since June 10. He earned a couple saves with Aroldis Chapman unavailable, but pitched after him on Wednesday for his last save. Chapman faced the 1-2-3 hitters, while Weissert faced the 4-5-6 hitters in the ninth.
Weissert has earned trust with how he's pitched, and it's led to save chances and high-leverage appearances. That gives him some fantasy appeal.
I still think Chapman is the preferred closer, but Weissert might earn more save chances if similar opportunities present themselves over the rest of the season.
I think with how Weissert has pitched and the chance of some saves that he's worth adding in some deeper redraft leagues. Stealing a few fantasy points here and there can help your fantasy team over the rest of the season, even if it might not look like a big-time addition.
We'll cover closers in more detail later today, so check back for that!
