Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Moreno, Edman Among Top Hitter Adds

Gabriel Moreno - Arizona Diamondbacks

Moreno is on the rise, and currently is rostered in 65.49% of fantasy baseball leagues.

He has five hits over his four games played since the All-Star break wrapped up. Moreno has two walks, an RBI and three runs scored in that span.

Moreno now has a .303 average and .387 on-base percentage over 73 games and 292 plate appearances this season. He has 76 total hits, including 15 doubles and six home runs. Moreno has 33 RBIs, 37 runs scored, 34 walks, 45 strikeouts and four stolen bases.

He doesn't possess the pop a lot of catchers do, but the high average and OBP make him a good fantasy hitter still. Moreno is worth roster spots/utilization in all deeper leagues, and more standard leagues. Consider adding him if he's available in your league, especially if you need a little help at catcher.

Tommy Edman - Los Angeles Dodgers

Edman has jumped 3.64% and now is owned in 43.81% of leagues overall.

He has five hits over four games since the All-Star break ended. Edman has a homer and double among the hits, plus three RBIs and four runs scored.

Edman has only played in 26 games this season, and has just 93 plate appearances in those contests. He has a .354 average and .440 OBP though, so he's excelled in his time on the field. Edman has five doubles, two homers and a triple among his 28 hits, plus 14 RBIs, 15 runs scored, eight walks, 17 strikeouts and two stolen bases.

He's already played four different positions this season, and the more spots he's eligible at, the better his fantasy outlook becomes. Edman is simply doing too much at the plate to ignore any longer.

He is worth adding and utilizing in deeper leagues, at least for the time being. Edman is worth the same looks in standard leagues, but be watching his numbers and ready to move off him for when/if he falls off eventually.

Salvador Perez - Kansas City Royals

Perez is up 3.02% and now sits at 64.16% overall.

Perez has had a tough season overall, but he's trending up of late. He has a hit in five straight ballgames, and he has two homers and a double among the hits. Perez has four RBIs, three runs scored and two walks in that span.

He has played in 93 games this season, getting 391 plate appearances. Perez has a .213 average and .258 OBP, plus 41 RBIs, 34 runs scored, 15 walks and 80 strikeouts. He has 77 total hits, including 14 doubles and 13 home runs.

Perez should be eligible at catcher or first base, and he gets in the lineup daily otherwise thanks to the designated hitter spot. So he's playing plenty, and now is delivering more at the plate, so he's worth more fantasy love.

He probably was a bit overowned before this recent five-game hitting streak, so he's at a pretty good own percentage in my eyes. He's a good deep-league fantasy asset, especially because he's eligible at a couple spots. Perez could be a short-term option in standard leagues, but mostly just for teams lacking at catcher and/or first base.

Ryan Jeffers - Minnesota Twins

Jeffers sits at 55.75% owned right now. He was at 47.06% on July 10, when he was activated off the injured list.

He did not play on Monday, but had a hit in each of the first three games back from the break. Jeffers hit a homer and a double across those games, plus had two walks, three RBIs and a run scored.

Jeffers has only played in 42 games this season, getting 168 plate appearances overall. He has a .288 average and .401 OBP, plus 31 RBIs, 27 runs scored and 26 walks and strikeouts. Jeffers has also stolen a base.

He's hit really well when healthy, and would be owned in far more leagues if he'd not gotten injured. I'm surprised his own percentage didn't shoot way up after he was activated off the IL. 

He plays most days between the catcher position and the DH slot. Jeffers has emerged as a trade candidate too, and a trade could really up his fantasy value.

I like adding Jeffers in all deeper leagues for sure - he's more than worth at least that much fantasy utilization. Standard league owners should also consider Jeffers. I'd stash him for a couple weeks and hope he gets dealt to a contender before the trade deadline.
