5 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers to Consider Tuesday

Looking for pitching help? Here are five waiver wire options to consider for Tuesday's MLB slate.

Let's kick off Tuesday by looking at some fantasy baseball waiver wire pitchers.

We have starting pitcher streamers and closers to discuss, so let's dive in! Check back later for a waiver wire hitter article.

Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!

Zac Thornton - New York Mets

Thornton is up 2.92% so far today and now is rostered in 28.14% of fantasy baseball leagues.

Thornton gets a matchup against the Brewers, who are not an offense to test most days. Thornton has pitched well in his brief time in the big leagues, so that's why he's on the rise.

He has made three starts this season, and despite an 0-1 record, he's only given up five runs over 17 1/3 innings for a 2.60 earned run average. Thornton has allowed 11 hits and five walks, and he's struck out 15 batters.

Thornton has pitched pretty well this season, but I don't love the idea of streaming him today against the Brewers. I'd only want to stream him in deeper fantasy leagues, and I'd be tempering my expectations.

Matthew Liberatore - St. Louis Cardinals

Liberatore is rostered in about 16% of fantasy leagues as he prepares to make a start on Tuesday.

He will get the ball against the Angels, who are a favorable matchup on paper. Liberatore hasn't pitched very well this season, so he's not the best option to stream with.

Over 19 starts, Liberatore is 5-6 with a 5.00 ERA. Over 93 2/3 innings, he's allowed 57 runs (52 earned) on 103 hits and 36 walks. He has struck out 88 batters to earn back a little value.

Liberatore is coming off a six-inning shutout on the hill, so that at least is working in his favor, as is the matchup. I'd still be skeptical of streaming him tonight, but he's at least an option in deeper leagues.

Grant Taylor - Chicago White Sox

Taylor is now rostered in about 40% of leagues. He was at 31% back on July 6, so he's been on the rise for a bit.

Taylor might be the new closer for the White Sox, who are finally winning enough to support a fantasy closer. He has three saves over five appearances this month.

In 37 appearances overall, Taylor is 4-2 with five saves, three blown saves and five holds. He has a 2.74 ERA over 49 1/3 innings pitched, plus 67 strikeouts to be a decent fantasy asset even if he's not earning saves.

I like adding Taylor in deeper fantasy leagues for sure, as he's pitching well enough even without saves to be worth utilizing. He could be a standard league asset as well, but I'd more look at him as a short-term option, not someone to own the rest of the season most likely.

Walbert Urena - Los Angeles Angels

Urena is owned in roughly 40% of leagues as he prepares for a Tuesday start.

Urena is the other half of the starting pitcher matchup for the Cardinals, Angels game tonight. St. Louis is an OK target to use streaming pitchers against.

He has made 15 starts and 17 appearances this season, and pitched very well. He's 5-7, but Urena has a 2.88 ERA over 81 1/3 innings. He's allowed 33 runs (26 earned) on 61 hits and 46 walks, while also striking out 78 batters.

There's some good numbers in there, but high walk numbers and shorter starts hold him back a bit. Urena is a sneaky-good deep-league fantasy streaming option right now, and he's capable of producing enough to try in standard leagues. The matchup tonight is one to consider him in, but again, he's a better deep-league option.

Jacob Webb - Chicago Cubs

Webb is up 2.51% today, and that brings his overall mark to 23.81%.

He has been the top option for saves in Chicago since Daniel Palencia hit the injured list. Webb has a save in three of his seven appearances this month. He has a hold in two of those games, showing he's not the go-to closer.

In 44 appearances overall this season, Webb is 3-2 with five saves, four blown saves and seven holds. He's pitched 43 1/3 innings and holds a 2.91 ERA, so he's a decent fantasy option even if he's not earning saves. Add in 50 strikeouts on the season and Webb is a sneaky-good fantasy asset.

He's worth adding and utilizing in deeper leagues while he is earning some saves for the Cubs. Be watching the status of Palencia, as he'll likely get the closer role back when he's healthy. Those really desperate for fantasy relief help in standard leagues could stream Webb until Palencia is back as well, simply because he's pitched pretty well this season, and especially of late.
