Fantasy Baseball Drop Candidates: 5 Players to Consider Cutting Before the Weekend

From injured stars to struggling veterans, here are five fantasy baseball players who could be safe drops depending on your league format.

Let's continue the fantasy baseball articles by looking into some drop candidates.

Here is the last drop story we did - we won't cover any of those players in today's article.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Hunter Greene - Cincinnati Reds

Greene is down to 70.27% rostered right now. That should continue to plummet as he's out with an injury right now.

Greene is now dealing with soreness in his right elbow, after already missing multiple months of play earlier this year. There's a concern he could be shut down the rest of the season.

He only got in five starts in 2026, and he went 2-2 with a 6.83 earned run average. Greene struck out 33 batters over 27 2/3 innings. He was a big-time fantasy pitcher coming into the season, but injuries/missed time have made him a huge draft bust unfortunately.

If he's indeed out for the year, Greene can safely be dropped in all redraft leagues. Hopefully it's not a big-time injury and he can be ready for the start of 2027.

Jake Bauers - Milwaukee Brewers

Bauers is dealing with an injury as well, and sits at 89.19% owned. He was over 93% a couple days ago.

He has an abdomen injury that's held him out of the lineup the past couple days. Bauers has been available to pinch hit though, so expect him back in the lineup soon, maybe even Friday.

Fantasy baseball owners are ready for Bauers to return, as he's had a career year in 2026. Over 102 games and 403 plate appearances, Bauers has a .270 average and .375 on-base percentage. He has 20 homers, 16 doubles and two triples among his 93 total hits, plus 64 RBIs, 68 runs scored, 55 walks, eight stolen bases and 103 strikeouts.

He plays first and the corner outfield spots, which are loaded fantasy positions, but also bumps his fantasy value up some. Bauers is a great deep-league asset and a pretty good standard league option, so be ready to add him back in standard leagues when he's back in the starting lineup.

Casey Mize - San Diego Padres

Mize sits at 80.18% rostered at the moment. He's being let go after a rough first outing with his new team.

Mize pitched on Wednesday against Arizona, lasting just 3 1/3 innings. He allowed eight runs on nine hits and three walks, while striking out just one batter.

He's 4-7 with a 3.40 ERA over 17 starts this season overall. Mize has 86 strikeouts over 90 innings.

Mize has some blowup starts, but has mostly been good in 2026. Be ready to add him if he comes available in your league, as I like his fantasy outlook with his new team down the stretch. Just be mindful that these blowup starts could happen now and then.

George Springer - Toronto Blue Jays

Springer sits at 81.08% owned at this time. He was above 83% a couple days back.

He's gone hitless over his past two games, but has at least avoided strikeouts and has drawn a walk in that span. Springer has a .234 average and .316 OBP over 85 games and 373 plate appearances this season.

Springer has 14 doubles, 12 homers and two triples among his 77 total hits. The primary designated hitter has 36 RBIs, 40 runs scored, 37 walks, seven stolen bases and 68 strikeouts as well.

He's underwhelmed this season, and been a draft bust because of poor stats and missed time. That makes it easier to drop him now, especially if there's a better fantasy outfielder out there. Be watching Springer in case he heats back up at some point though.

Bryce Miller - Seattle Mariners

Miller is rostered in 87.84% of fantasy leagues - he's likely to be dropped after a below-average performance on Thursday though.

Miller started against Detroit, and was saddled with a loss after allowing four runs over five innings. He gave up five hits and two walks, while striking out five. It wasn't a terrible start, but his results over the past month have been underwhelming, so it makes sense to see Miller as a drop candidate today.

Over 14 appearances so far, he's 4-6 with a 3.08 ERA, so he's basically regressing after a stellar start to the season. Miller has 79 punchouts over 79 innings pitched.

He's still streamable in favorable matchups, and could be worth adding/holding down the stretch if he bounces back, but until his numbers improve, I have no issue dropping Miller between his starts.
