Emmet Sheehan, Justin Wrobleski and Dalton Rushing - Los Angeles Dodgers
Sheehan sits at 64.19% rostered right now, but that's going to continue going down after he was sent to Triple-A. Wrobleski sits at 96.74% owned, but is trending down after being rocked on Monday. Rushing is at 29.91%, and that will continue to plummet after he was placed on the 10-day injured list.
Sheehan has been inconsistent on the mound of late, so it's no surprise he got optioned after the team added some pitching at the trade deadline. He has allowed five and six runs over his past three appearances, and has failed to top 5 1/3 innings in any of his past nine starts.
He has a 5.29 earned run average over 20 starts this season. Sheehan is 4-8 with 108 strikeouts over 95 1/3 innings, but he's simply giving up too many runs.
Sheehan is droppable in most redraft leagues, and definitely standard ones. He could be stashed in deeper fantasy leagues, and dynasty leagues of course, but the longer he is out, the easier it should become to drop him.
Wrobleski allowed seven runs over just 4 1/3 innings against the Cubs on Monday. He allowed five runs over six innings in the game before that.
He has a 3.31 ERA over 19 appearances (18 starts) this season, but appears to be regressing after a stellar start to the year. Wrobleski is 11-3 and has 91 strikeouts over 117 innings.
Wrobeleski is droppable in some standard leagues, but he'll still be a good fantasy option in good matchups. There's also a chance he bounces back soon, so keep close tabs on him.
Rushing is on the 10-day IL with inflammation in his right elbow. There's no timetable for his return, which is concerning, especially with Will Smith already out with a neck injury.
Rushing has had a solid second season in the big leagues, and sits with a .253 average and .335 on-base percentage over 74 games and 245 plate appearances. He has 12 doubles and homers among his 55 total hits, plus 36 RBIs, 37 runs scored, 23 walks and 70 strikeouts.
Rushing is droppable in most redraft leagues, especially with no return timetable. Keep tabs on that, and drop him in more leagues if he's going to miss way more than 10 days. But also be ready to add him back if the absence is short and Smith still isn't back, as Rushing will get a majority of the starts then.
Gabriel Moreno - Arizona Diamondbacks
Moreno is rostered in 91.63% of fantasy leagues, but is now being dropped after being scratched from Monday's lineup. He is going on the paternity leave list to attend the birth of his second child.
It's a bummer he's going to miss some time, as Moreno has been great this season, and especially over the past several weeks. He has a .298 average and .380 OBP over 85 games and 350 plate appearances this season.
Moreno has 89 total hits so far, including 18 doubles and eight home runs. He has 47 RBIs, 46 runs scored, 40 walks, 52 strikeouts and four stolen bases. He might not be hitting for a ton of power, but a good average and OBP, plus a low strikeout total, makes him a very good fantasy option.
I'd do my best to hold him, as his absence won't be more than a couple days. If he's let go in your league, consider adding him, as he's been a good fantasy asset of late.
Esmerlyn Valdez - Pittsburgh Pirates
Valdez is owned in 82.71% of leagues, after previously being over 85%.
He has no hits over his past four games, but he's also walked seven times in that span. He has two runs scored, two RBIs and five strikeouts in that short timeframe.
Valdez was red hot before that, and still has a .260 average and .375 OBP over 45 games and 176 plate appearances this season. He has 14 homers, nine doubles, a triple, 38 RBIs, 28 runs scored, 27 walks and 61 strikeouts on the year.
He was due to regress a bit, and that's come. Now we will see if Valdez can start hitting a bit more consistently, because walks aren't going to cut it. Be ready to drop him if his numbers continue to drop, but also be prepared to add him back if the hits come back soon.
