Fantasy Baseball Fallout From Monday's MLB Trades: Arraez, Soriano and More

The MLB trades continue to pile up as the deadline draws closer. Here, let's break down some of the recent notable deals.

Phillies Land Arraez from Giants, Raley from Mets

Philadelphia was busy on Monday morning, getting Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian from the Giants and Brooks Raley from the Mets. The Phillies sent the Giants Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, while sending the Mets Luke Gabrysh and John Spikerman.

The 29-year-old Arraez is in the midst of another big season despite the Giants' shortcomings overall. He has a .324 average and .360 on-base percentage over 105 games and 464 plate appearances.

Arraez has 23 doubles, seven triples and four home runs among his 136 total hits. He has posted 43 RBIs, 52 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, 25 walks and has just 21 strikeouts.

He will play daily at second base, and being in a better lineup, his fantasy outlook should improve. Arraez should be owned in most leagues for the remainder of the fantasy season.

The trade will reconfigure the Phillies' lineup and infield. Bryson Stott, the normal second baseman, is expected to move to third base. Alec Bohm had been the starter at third, but is now expected to play first. That will move Bryce Harper from first base to right field. 

The move lengthens the Phillies' lineup and makes the lineup more dangerous. They should make the postseason, and be in the hunt for an NL title, although the Dodgers are still clearly the favorites, and Philly still will have to go through the Brewers too.

Kilian is a 29-year-old reliever who has eight saves and a 4.26 earned run average this season. Don't expect him to be more than a setup man in Philly, and I see him more as a mid-inning guy, so he won't have a ton of fantasy value.

Marquez was the Phillies' No. 4 prospect before the trade. He was signed back in 2025 and has a 2029 ETA. The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher is in High-A right now and is in the midst of a great season, so he's one to stash in dynasty leagues and expect to be a big contributor down the line.

Gair is a 23-year-old pitcher who wasn't ranked in the top 30 for the Phillies before the trade. He's got a 4.43 ERA over two minor league seasons and is in High-A now. Gair doesn't have a great long-term outlook, but maybe he could turn into a decent reliever for his new team eventually.

Raley is having a great season at age 38. He has a 1.96 ERA over 45 appearances, with 40 strikeouts over 41 1/3 innings. Raley will be a setup man, at best, in Philly, but if he keeps pitching well, he could have some more fantasy value now that he's on a better team.

Spikerman was the Phillies' No. 27 prospect before the deal. The 23-year-old outfielder has a 2028 ETA after being drafted in the third round of the 2024 draft. His outlook improves from his change of scenery, but he's still not a great long-term option unless he improves his numbers in the minor leagues - he's in High-A right now.

Gabrysh is 23 years old and pitching in High-A this season so far. He has a 5.14 ERA this season and 4.17 career minor league ERA, so he's another who is one to track, but isn't viewed as a highly-touted asset down the line.

Blue Jays Acquire Soriano

Toronto got Jose Soriano from the Angels, which was a surprise after the Blue Jays dealt Kevin Gausman away. The Blue Jays sent the Angels Arjun Nimmala, Eddie Micheletti Jr. and Angel Rivero in return.

Soriano is having a breakout season in 2026. Over 22 starts, he's 9-6 with a 3.29 ERA over 123 innings. He has 127 strikeouts so far, but also 57 walks.

Soriano will give the Blue Jays a controllable arm for a couple seasons, while still helping the team compete now - something that fans didn't expect after Gausman was traded away. His outlook improves a bit after the trade, but he needs to limit walks to be a good fantasy asset each turn through the rotation.

Nimmala is the No. 43 prospect in baseball, so that's a good return for LA. He's 20 years old, has a 2028 ETA and is playing in Double-A right now. With his new team, that ETA could move up, but probably just 2027 at the earliest, not later this season.

Micheletti and Rivero are not ranked in the Angels' top-30 prospects after the trade. 

Micheletti is a 24-year-old outfielder/first baseman who has reached Double-A so far, but needs to improve his minor league numbers to rise as a prospect and maybe turn into an MLB asset down the line.

Rivero is just 19 years old and has pitched in just rookie ball over the past three years, so he's a long way from a potential MLB debut. He has a 3.55 ERA overall, and a 2.36 mark this year, so he is on the rise.

Mariners Acquire Ward

Seattle traded for Taylor Ward, sending Alex Hoppe, Harrison Kreiling and Brock Moore to the Orioles in return.

Ward is 32 years old and ended up playing just 111 games with Baltimore before getting dealt away. He had a .246 average and .383 OBP, along with 30 RBIs, 64 runs scored, 87 walks, 103 strikeouts and four stolen bases. Ward has 20 doubles and seven homers among his 101 total hits.

Seattle is hoping they get the Ward from the 2024-25 seasons, when he combined for 61 homers and 178 RBIs. Ward should play daily, and that means he'll be a good fantasy option. He'll need to produce more at the plate to be worth owning in all leagues though, so keep tabs on him after he settles in a bit.

Hoppe is 27 years old and made his MLB debut earlier this year. He has an 0-1 record and 5.79 ERA over 24 appearances and 28 innings, while striking out 34 along the way. He's not a big fantasy asset, and the trade isn't likely to change that - he probably won't even be with the big league club right away.

Kreiling is 24 years old and has topped out at Single-A in his young minor league career so far. He has a 1.69 ERA over 10 2/3 innings, so he's shown some early promise. We'll see if he turns into anything down the line, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Moore is 26 years old and is pitching in Double-A of late. He has a career 5.55 ERA in the minor leagues, so again, there's not a ton of promise with him.

The move really was to get Ward out of Baltimore. That opens the door for younger players, while taking a gamble on some of the assets they acquired.

Guardians Land Adell

Cleveland acquired Jo Adell from the Angels, sending just Jacob Cozart in return.

Adell has a .239 average and .287 OBP over 111 games and 456 games this season. He has 16 doubles and homers, plus a triple, among his 101 total hits, while also adding 62 RBIs, 46 runs scored, 16 walks, three stolen bases and 108 strikeouts.

Adell should play daily for Cleveland, giving him some fantasy value. He'll need to be producing at the plate to work into more fantasy leagues. I see him as a better deep-league fantasy asset, but keep tabs on him in case he gets hot or thrives in his new home.

Cozart was Cleveland's No. 18 prospect before the trade. The catcher is 23 years old, has a 2027 ETA and was playing in Double-A. He has subpar hitting numbers in the minor leagues, but could crack the big leagues for the retooling Angels sooner, so his dynasty/fantasy value gets a slight bump up. I'm not super high on Cozart, but he's a name to keep in mind, maybe even for later this season.

Doyle Joining White Sox

Brenton Doyle was sent from the Rockies to the White Sox, with Mason Adams and Carlos Vielma being the return.

Doyle just returned to the big leagues after a long absence - he's played in just 45 games so far. He has had some solid results in the past, so we'll see if he regains that form with his new team.

Doyle will need to be playing daily to be worth fantasy consideration. He's a deep-league asset for now, and I'd be a bit surprised if he worked into standard leagues before the end of the season.

Adams was Chicago's No. 8 prospect, so that's a big return for a subpar player (right now). Adams is 26 and pitching in Triple-A, and his change of scenery could mean he debuts later this season, so keep tabs on that. His new home hurts a pitcher's fantasy stock though, so that's not a great thing.

Vielma is just 16 years old and has 34 games of rookie league ball under his belt this year. He has great numbers in that timeframe though, so he's one to keep an eye on way down the line, as he's years away from making a possible MLB debut.
