Wednesday Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Abbott, Mize, & Top Waiver Targets
Five starting pitchers with good matchups on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
Baseball is a funny game. The same two teams can have wildly different outcomes in back-to-back days, or even on the same day during a doubleheader.
After the Houston Astros had a combined no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on Monday, Texas came back yesterday and scored eight runs in the first inning, eventually winning 10-7. “Any given Sunday” is a popular phrase in football, but it's literally any given day of the week that something peculiar might happen in baseball.
Moving to fantasy, let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Andrew Abbott, Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets
Hey Abbott! I thought we were done being able to link that video, but Abbott's fantasy ownership has fallen to nearly 50% with a slow start to the season. He is doing fine limiting hits, runs, and home runs, but Abbott has been worse than average with walks and way below average with strikeouts this season, bucking his career trends. There's a good chance for better performance moving forward, giving some buy-low value.
The Mets are on a five-game losing streak, having only scored six total runs in that time and no more than two runs in any game. They are in the bottom five in runs, hits, doubles, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS, while sitting just above that lowly mark in home runs. There's nothing that New York really does well, though they don't strike out a ton, sitting closer to the middle.
Abbott is a mid-to-high-level streamer. I'm tempted to bump him up another level, but his negative rates give me just a little hesitancy until we see it corrected.
Mike Burrows, Houston Astros @ Texas Rangers
We talked in the intro about Texas getting no-hit on Monday before yesterday's outburst, but the overall numbers point to the Rangers as a good team to target, especially when they're playing at home. When looking only at games that a team has played at home, the Rangers are near the bottom of pretty much every box stat, falling victim to the pitcher's paradise of Globe Life Park (along with some injuries).
Burrows has been good with walks and slightly below average with strikeouts, but he has been hit hard this season, giving up 66 hits and 12 home runs in just 56 1/3 innings, helping to balloon his ERA near 6.00. He was much better in those areas last season, so there's hope that he improves, but Burrows hasn't been able to limit hitters very well in 2026.
Burrows is a low-level streamer. His performance this season hasn't been good enough to really trust him, though it wouldn't be a surprise to see him improve toward the middle of the league quickly if things straighten out.
Steven Matz, Tampa Bay Rays @ Baltimore Orioles
Matz has been average or better with both walks and strikeouts in his career, though both of those numbers are slightly on the wrong side of average in 2026. He has done very well this year limiting hits, runs, and homers, and after spending most of last season pitching out of the bullpen, his return to the rotation has been a success for a Rays team that seemed like it could be a little short on starting pitchers entering the season.
Baltimore is more of a fringe target than we would generally like, but they fit as our fifth target team today, and there is some upside in facing the Orioles. While they rank high in walks, Baltimore also strikes out at a top-five rate, raising the ceiling for opposing pitchers. The Orioles are also middling at best in most other categories, leaving them as an OK target when we need them (though that status could change quickly).
Matz is a low-to-mid-level streamer. Though he has been good, the matchup here isn't great, and with his strikeout numbers down just a bit, that keeps him below the middle in this one.
Casey Mize, Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels
On top of being worse than average in most areas, the Angels have struck out more than any other team in the league. Teams can still find success while striking out at a big rate, especially if they hit a lot of home runs (as the Angels have), but Los Angeles is failing in most other areas, holding them down offensively and with wins and losses, where they have the worst record in the American League.
Mize is another pitcher owned in right around 50% of fantasy leagues, and that number could keep rising for the former first overall pick in 2018. He has always been good with walks, but Mize's strikeouts were a little below average until last season, when he reached the top end of average. He has been better than average with Ks in 2026 while doing fantastic at limiting hits, runs, and home runs; that's a recipe for a top-line pitcher.
Mize is a mid-to-high-level streamer. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him quickly rise above a streaming level, so if you need help in your rotation, this might be your last chance to pick him up, particularly if he has another strong outing with the great matchup.
Jeffrey Springs, Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners
Springs was well above average with Ks earlier in his career, but that fell to a below-average level last season and has continued at that lower rate this year, though he's not perilously low. He is right at average with walks and preventing runs and home runs, but Springs is also doing very well limiting hits, making him an intriguing fantasy pitcher when the matchup is right.
Seattle is closer to the top of the bottom 10 in many areas, still worth targeting right now but not a fantastic team to go after. They hit home runs and walk at a top-10 rate, but they are also in that same lofty group in most batter strikeouts, leaving a better ceiling for opposing pitchers than they might otherwise present.
Springs is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He has been good but not great, and we could say the same about the matchup here. If his strikeouts were at his previous level, he would bump up a notch, but we can temper expectations just a bit given his recent K work.
