Fantasy Baseball Drop Candidates: Who to Cut From Your Roster

Fantasy baseball drop candidates based on performance, role changes, and roster trends.

After looking at a bunch of fantasy baseball waiver wire options (pitchers, hitters, more options based on weekly projections), let's discuss some drop candidates.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Agustin Ramirez - Miami Marlins

Ramirez is rostered in 78% of fantasy baseball leagues. He was over 90% earlier in the season.

Ramirez is reportedly being optioned down, with prospect Joe Mack being called up to replace him. Obviously if Ramirez is not in the major leagues, he's not a fantasy asset.

In 31 games and 129 plate appearances, Ramirez has a .230 average and .318 on-base percentage. He has 26 total hits, including five doubles, two home runs and a triple. Ramirez has 14 RBIs, 14 runs scored, three stolen bases, 13 walks and 28 strikeouts.

The primary catcher hasn't done enough for the Marlins' liking this season, so they are going to send him down. He's been a good asset in the past, and could be again down the line, but first, the team wants him to improve a bit.

Ramirez is one to keep tabs on, but he's droppable, especially after the transaction becomes official. Only hold Ramirez in really deep redraft leagues, and dynasty/keeper leagues.

Chase Dollander - Colorado Rockies

Dollander is owned in about 59% of leagues right now. He topped out at 66% two days ago.

Dollander had been on a heater, but was tagged for six runs on eight hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings in his last outing. Even after the blowup start, he has a 3.38 earned run average over 37 1/3 innings.

The young hurler has allowed 14 runs on 31 hits and 12 walks this season. Dollander has 42 strikeouts to his name.

Dollander is still a good fantasy asset in my eyes, so I'm for keeping him in most deeper leagues. I'm OK dropping him in standard leagues. Treat Dollander as a standard league streamer for the time being.

Ryan Walker - San Francisco Giants

Walker is trending down again, and he sits at 51% overall. He was closer to 60% in late April, and was over 70% early in the season.

Walker was on the rise after earning a couple saves on April 21 and 22. He allowed an unearned run in his next outing, and has blown two saves since then. Walker worked in the eighth inning in his last outing as well, so he's really trending downward quickly now.

The Giants weren't winning enough anyways, which made Walker's fantasy outlook shaky at best. With an uncertain role, he's droppable in a lot of fantasy leagues.

Walker is just a deep-league asset for the time being, so he's droppable in all standard leagues. If his role, or performance, doesn't improve soon, then Walker will be droppable in deeper leagues too.

Daylen Lile - Washington Nationals

Lile is rostered in 72% of leagues right now. He was closer to 80% in late April.

Lile has played in 34 games and logged 151 plate appearances so far this season. He has a .246 average and .311 OBP, along with 14 RBIs, 20 runs scored, a stolen base, 13 walks and 28 strikeouts. Lile has 34 total hits, including eight doubles and three home runs.

He did some big things in his rookie season in 2025, but that was over just 91 games. Lile is capable of more, so he's worth tracking in case he ever takes off.

For now though, Lile is a better deep-league asset. He's droppable in most standard leagues. I'd keep him around in deeper leagues, and dynasty/keeper leagues, and keep tabs on him in case his bat heats up.

Paul Sewald - Arizona Diamondbacks

Sewald is down to 71% rostered at this moment. He was over 80% in late April.

He's been a pretty good fantasy asset so far this season. Sewald has pitched in 14 games - he has an 0-3 record, but seven saves and no blown saves.

Sewald has allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks, while striking out 15 batters over 11 2/3 innings. He has no saves since April 17 though, and his only decision since then is a loss, so he's being dropped.

He's still a good fantasy asset, he just needs some save chances. So I like keeping Sewald around in deeper redraft leagues, but he's droppable in standard leagues, especially if there's a better option out there. If you can afford to be patient with Sewald, I would, as his outlook is better than most of the waiver wire options available in standard leagues.
