Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets for Monday
Breaking down the best pitcher adds and streaming options based on matchups and recent performance.
After going over some fantasy baseball waiver wire adds or streamers based on weekly projections, let's go over some more traditional fantasy baseball waiver wire options/streamers in the next two articles.
Here, we'll cover pitchers. Check back in a bit for a writeup on hitters.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Janson Junk - Miami Marlins
Junk has been added in 9.1% of fantasy baseball leagues today. That brings his overall mark up to 20%.
Junk will start on Monday against the Phillies. Philly has surprisingly been a pretty good matchup for pitchers this season, despite all the talent in that lineup.
Junk was so-so, or below average, in his first four starts of the year, but he's starred his past two outings. In those starts, he's not allowed a run, while allowing just four hits and two walks over 11 innings - Junk had six punchouts combined in those games.
Junk is a so-so starting option with limited strikeout upside, but he can put up fantasy points if he covers innings and limits runs. I like trying him in some deeper leagues today, but would look elsewhere for help in standard leagues.
Nick Martinez - Tampa Bay Rays
Martinez has risen 4.54% so far today, and he sits at 59.81% overall.
Martinez is making a start against the Blue Jays on Monday. Again, that's another surprisingly good matchup for starting pitchers so far this season.
Martinez has been great all season, allowing just seven runs over 37 innings so far. He has a 1.70 earned run average across his six starts, and he sits with a 2-1 record. Martinez has given up 28 hits and nine walks, while striking out 24 batters.
I like Martinez as a fantasy asset right now, but his lower strikeout totals caps his fantasy upside a bit. His great pitching so far makes him a good deep-league option for Monday, and he's got some standard league upside as well in this matchup.
Tomoyuki Sugano - Colorado Rockies
Sugano has been picked up in 2.69% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 20%.
He will be making a start against the Mets on Monday. It's not often fantasy owners can target a Colorado pitcher, especially at home, but the Mets have been bad on offense, so Sugano is an option for Monday.
Sugano has one rough outing across six starts. He allowed five runs in that start, and has given up five runs in the other five starts combined. Overall. Sugano has surrendered 28 hits and nine walks, while striking out 21 over 31 2/3 innings.
Sugano is a good option for Monday, but most are only going to trust a Colorado pitcher at home in deeper leagues. I'm in the same boat, and think you can find higher fantasy upside for standard leagues.
Davis Martin - Chicago White Sox
Martin is up 3.08% and he is now rostered in 78.8% of leagues overall.
He will be making a start against the Angels, who are a favorable matchup on paper. Davis is on the rise for how he's pitched so far too.
Across six starts, Davis has a 1.95 ERA over 37 innings pitched. He's allowed eight runs on 32 hits and eight walks, while striking out 33 batters.
Martin has been a fantasy surprise early on, and has a good enough matchup to try again on Monday. I like him for sure in deeper leagues, and also would be happy to try him in standard leagues.
Logan Henderson - Milwaukee Brewers
Henderson is up 5.32% the day after his most recent start. He is owned in 25.32% of leagues overall.
He was called up and made a start for Milwaukee on Sunday. Henderson took the loss, but allowed just two runs on three hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked none in that contest.
If Henderson sticks in the big leagues, he should be added in more leagues before his next start. That next start would likely be against the Yankees, which isn't a matchup to target.
Henderson would still be a deep-league option for a start against New York, I'd just stop short of trying him in too many standard leagues. If he remains in the big leagues, then Henderson's own percentage could rise even more, so be ready to add him.
JR Ritchie - Atlanta Braves
Ritchie is rostered in about 47% of fantasy leagues as he prepares for his next start. He was at 57% for his most recent start.
Ritchie will start against the Mariners on Monday. That's a solid fantasy matchup on paper.
In his first two big league starts, Ritchie has a 2.92 ERA over 12 1/3 innings. He's allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and six walks, while striking out 11 batters.
Ritchie has looked good enough so far to try in deeper leagues for his start today. I wouldn't even mind trying him in some standard leagues. His next start would be against the Dodgers most likely, and that's a matchup to only try in deeper leagues, so don't immediately add Ritchie if he excels tonight.
