Sunday's Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers: Luis Gil, Charlie Morton, and More
Five starting pitchers in action on MLB's final regular season day who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Well, we made it. And on the last day of the MLB season, there are games that still mean something, making for a good final day. The Wild Card Round of the playoffs starts on Tuesday; it's officially the best time of the baseball season!
Let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Javier Assad, Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Assad missed most of the season, not making his debut until the middle of August because of an oblique strain. He is generally a little worse than average with both walks and strikeouts, and that has been case in 2025 with his strikeouts way down in a very small sample.
St. Louis is playing its worst late in the season, ranking in the bottom 10 in pretty much every offensive box stat over the past 30 days. Their season-long numbers are closer to average, showing the Cardinals as a middling team, but they were better earlier in the year and have been struggling offensively in the second half.
Assad is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup is a decent one, but Assad has been way down with Ks in his short time, lowering his fantasy ceiling.
Luis Gil, New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles
Gil is another guy who didn't make his season debut until August because of injury. He is generally an above-average strikeout pitcher who walks too many guys. He has still struggled with control in 2025, but he has also been way down with Ks in his short time, much like Assad. Gil also does well limiting hits and home runs, a big reason why he has an ERA under 3.50 the past few seasons.
Baltimore has a lot of questions to answer this offseason, including whether their offense still has room to grow with the current core after taking a step backward. The pitching staff has major questions of their own, but the Orioles were a bottom-10 offensive team most of the season and are still below average late in the season.
Gil is a mid-level streamer. His strikeout work is positive, and the matchup here is a good one for a strong final start in a game the Yankees need to win.
Brad Lord, Washington Nationals vs. Chicago White Sox
Shane Smith, Chicago White Sox @ Washington Nationals
We've been following this series all weekend, as it involves two of the three worst teams in baseball, the perfect place to look for poor offenses. There have actually been a lot of runs scored, with Chicago taking a 10-9 win on Friday and Washington winning 6-5 yesterday. We still have two bottom-10 offenses, though, and teams that I'm happy to go after right through the last day of the season.
Lord has been very average in his first big league season. He is just a little better than average with walks and a little worse than average with strikeouts. Lord has allowed less than a hit per inning and a home run every 9.0 innings, a very good mark. Lord had a very successful season and will become a more popular name in the fantasy world if he keeps improving.
Smith has been a little too high with walks but also slightly higher than average with strikeouts. He has also given up just 116 hits in 140 1/3 innings and a home run every 8.3 innings; Smith has had a very good rookie season. His ERA is just a hair under 4.00, a promising floor to build from for next year.
Lord is a low-to-mid-level streamer and Smith a mid-level streamer. The latter has been better with strikeouts and has the better matchup here based on recent numbers, so he gets the advantage.
Charlie Morton, Atlanta Braves vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Morton is making the final start of his career in this one, as he is expected to retire at the end of the season. The 41-year-old Morton has stayed around average with strikeouts but has also been walking too many guys this year. He has also gotten hit hard at times, giving up more than a hit per inning and a homer every 6.1 innings. Morton is likely to make a short start in this one, as Chris Sale is scheduled to come in after Morton is done.
Pittsburgh finishes the season right where they began: as one of our best targets for opposing pitchers. They will be right back here again next season and likely to harbor another bottom-10 offense unless they make major changes in the offseason. Given how frugal the team is, they're unlikely to bring in many new players, meaning they will probably struggle mightily again.
Morton is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He has been OK, and the matchup is right, but there's not a high ceiling here for the veteran pitcher.
