Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Options for Wednesday: Michael Harris, Jonah Tong and More
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
Let's go over our third fantasy baseball waiver wire story of the final week of the MLB regular season.
We won't cover anyone who appeared in stories on Monday or Tuesday, and will also skip any starting pitchers who made Wednesday's streaming article.
More waiver wire options can also be found on FantasySP.
Should You Add Ivan Herrera?
Herrera is rostered in 84% of fantasy leagues right now. He was around 82% on September 21.
He's riding a five-game hitting streak, and has six knocks over that span. Herrera has three homers, seven RBIs, seven runs scored, five walks and just one strikeout over that span.
Herrera has a homer in three straight games, which is why he's a waiver wire option.
I'm surprised his own percentage isn't going up all that much. He's worth an add in all leagues, and that's why I'm discussing him despite his higher own percentage.
I think Herrera has been pretty underrated all season. He has a .283 average and .375 on-base percentage over 103 games and 437 plate appearances. Among his 106 hits, Herrera has 19 home runs and 13 doubles, plus 65 RBIs, 53 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 42 walks and 80 strikeouts.
Get the Cardinals' primary catcher on your roster and in your lineup for the final few days of the season.
Should You Add Michael Harris?
Harris is owned in 86% of leagues - he sat around 82% on September 21.
He has seven hits over his past three contests. Harris has two doubles and homers among the hits, along with six RBIs, three runs scored and stolen bases, no walks and two strikeouts.
Harris has turned an underwhelming season around a bit down the stretch. He still sits with a .246 average and .266 OBP over 156 games and 597 plate appearances. Harris has 25 doubles, 19 homers and six triples among his 147 hits, along with having 85 RBIs, 54 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, 16 walks and 128 strikeouts.
At this point of the season, it's all about having the hottest hitters in your lineup, and Harris has been one of those guys of late. He's worth an add in all the leagues he's available in for the final couple days of the regular season.
Should You Add Coby Mayo?
Mayo is rostered in only 11% of fantasy leagues. He jumped into double digits about a week ago.
He has five hits over his past three games, including a homer and a double. Mayo has an RBI, run scored, stolen base, walk and strikeout in that small span.
Over 80 games and 280 plate appearances this season, Mayo has a .214 average and .293 OBP. Among his 54 total hits, he has nine homers and 12 doubles, along with 25 RBIs, 27 runs scored, three stolen bases, 25 walks and 81 strikeouts.
He's mostly played first base this season, but could also have third base eligibility. If he does, he could be a sneaky good deep-league add for the final few games.
Again, you want the hottest hitters on your team, and Mayo is an option for those of you still competing in deeper leagues.
Should You Add Jonah Tong?
Tong has been added in 2.01% of fantasy leagues as he prepares for a start on Wednesday. He's rostered in 42.95% of leagues.
He will make a start against the Cubs on Wednesday evening. That's not a very good matchup for him, but the rookie hurler has a little more intrigue with pretty good strikeout totals.
Tong has made four big league starts since being called up. He's 2-2 with a 5.94 earned run average over 16 2/3 innings. Tong has allowed 15 runs (11 earned) on 17 hits and seven walks, while striking out 21 batters.
Tong allowed either four or six runs in each of his first three starts. He's coming off his best outing, which is another reason why he's an option for today.
He worked five frames against the Padres on September 18. Tong allowed an unearned run on four hits, while striking out eight and walking none.
In a similarly tough matchup today, Tong gets a little boost as a result of his last appearance. I still wouldn't love the idea of starting the rookie, but he's at least a deep-league option.
I'd do my best to avoid him in standard leagues.
Should You Add Nathaniel Lowe?
Lowe is just rostered in 32% of leagues, but he's been hot at the plate of late.
He's on a six-game hitting streak, collecting seven knocks (including a double) over that span. Lowe has five RBIs, four runs scored, six walks and four strikeouts as well.
Lowe has found new life since joining the Red Sox. In 29 games and 101 plate appearances with the team, he has a .286 average and .386 OBP, along with 15 RBIs, 14 runs scored, 14 walks and 24 strikeouts. Lowe has four doubles, two homers and a triple among his 24 total knocks with Boston.
He struggled in his time with Washington this season, so his season numbers are weak. But with how Lowe has looked of late, he's worth an add in deeper leagues for the final few games.
Yes, he plays a loaded first base position, but there has to be an extra infield slot or utility spot you can utilize him in. A couple extra points this week could be the difference, and Lowe could be the one who helps you out.
