Tuesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Spencer Steer, Cristian Javier and More
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
Let's go over a second fantasy baseball waiver wire story for the final week of the regular season.
Here is the waiver story from Monday, and Tuesday's starting pitcher streaming options.
More waiver wire options can also be found on FantasySP.
Should You Add Spencer Steer?
Steer has been added in 2.41% of leagues, bringing his overall mark up to 51.06%.
Steer has enjoyed a nice month, sitting with a .314 average and .385 on-base percentage over 13 games and 39 plate appearances. He has 11 hits, including four homers and a double. Steer also has 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, a stolen base, four walks and eight strikeouts.
He has played in 140 games and logged 542 plate appearances so far. Steer has a .241 average and .311 OBP, along with 74 RBIs, 54 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 46 walks and 120 strikeouts. He has 118 hits, including 21 homers, 20 doubles and two triples.
The primary first baseman could also have outfield eligibility from past seasons. Those are two stacked fantasy spots, so it's fair to see his own percentage just over 50%.
Steer has done enough this month to be rostered in more leagues though. I'd be happy to add him for the final week of play, especially if you need help at first base or in the outfield.
Should You Add Cristian Javier?
Javier is up 8.02% as he gets ready for a start on Tuesday. He is rostered in 28.97% of leagues overall.
Javier will make a start against the Athletics to cap the night. It will be his first appearance against them this season.
Javier has made seven starts this season. He's 2-3 with a 4.45 earned run average over 32 1/3 innings so far. Javier has allowed 18 runs (16 earned) on 26 hits and 14 walks, while striking out 30 batters.
He's coming off one of his best starts of the season. Javier earned a win over the Rangers after allowing two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out four over six innings. Javier gave up four runs in the two starts before that, so it hasn't all been good for him.
I like the matchup enough to try Javier in a good amount of leagues tonight. He's definitely a deep-league option, and should be in the running for standard league starts too, especially if you don't like your other options.
Should You Add Isaac Paredes?
Paredes is owned in 57.93% of leagues after a 2.52% increase.
Paredes was injured back in July, and was expected to miss at least the rest of this season. Well, he's back on the field trying to help the Astros down the stretch.
He has played in three games since returning, collecting a single and a homer over 11 plate appearances.
Paredes has a .257 average and .356 OBP over 97 games and 421 plate appearances for the season. He has 20 homers, 15 doubles and a triple among his 93 total hits, along with 51 RBIs, 52 runs scored, 50 walks and 73 strikeouts.
The third baseman (and maybe first baseman) has hit third in each of his three games back. He's a good fantasy hitter who can be picked up for free after his long injury absence.
Owners in all leagues could benefit from adding Paredes for the final week, even if he's just an extra infielder, or hitter in general. It's not often a slugger like this is available, and in the season's final week, you might as well try adding Paredes.
Should You Add Dean Kremer?
Kremer is up 3.37% as he prepares for a start. He is rostered in 24.32% of leagues overall.
He will start for the Orioles against the Rays in an evening tilt. It will be his third start against them this season.
He worked five innings and got a win against Tampa Bay on June 17. Kremer allowed a run on four hits and two walks, while striking out four in that one.
Kremer earned a win after twirling seven scoreless frames against the Rays on June 29. He allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out six.
He took a no decision after striking out six Rays over seven frames in a start on July 19. Kremer allowed a run on three hits and three walks.
Kremer has covered just 8 2/3 innings over his past two starts, but only allowed two runs on four hits and four walks. He's struck out eight over that stretch.
I like this matchup, and with his success against Tampa Bay earlier this season, I'd be happy to start Kremer in deeper leagues. I'd also consider him in standard leagues. He's a bit of a risky option, but I'd be willing to gamble if you thought it was necessary.
Should You Add Carlos Correa?
Correa is up 2.96% today and sits at 71.88% overall.
Correa went hitless in his last game, but had seven hits over his five games before that. In 19 games and 86 plate appearances this month, Correa has a .272 average and .314 OBP. He has five doubles and three homers among his 22 hits, along with six RBIs, 10 runs scored, four walks and 23 strikeouts.
He has a .273 average and .327 OBP over 139 games and 566 plate appearances this season. Correa has 143 total hits, including 27 doubles and 13 homers. He also has 50 RBIs, 62 runs scored, 41 walks and 112 strikeouts.
The primary shortstop is now eligible at third base too, which boosts his fantasy value even more. I'm really surprised he isn't owned in more leagues. He strikes out too much still, but his all-around numbers are pretty good, and make him worth rostering in more leagues.
