Tuesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Options: Connelly Early, Daylen Lile and More
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
It's time for our second fantasy baseball waiver wire story of the week!
We won't cover anyone who appeared in Monday's story, and will also skip over the Tuesday starting pitcher streaming options.
More waiver wire options can also be found on FantasySP.
Should You Add Connelly Early?
Early has been added in 10.77% of leagues and is now rostered in 26.11% overall.
He is making a start against the Athletics tonight. It will be Early's second big league start.
Early faced the Athletics in his first MLB start on September 9. All he did was strike out 11 batters over five scoreless innings - that's about as good of a starting pitcher debut as you'll see. Early allowed five hits and one walk and threw 90 pitches.
It's easy to see why he's on the rise today. He has a solid fantasy floor, and a good fantasy ceiling with all those strikeouts.
Facing a team two times in a row isn't an easy challenge. Usually, it favors the hitters, but we'll see how Early fares tonight.
I definitely would want to start him in deeper leagues, and I'm a bit surprised he already isn't owned in more leagues. I also wouldn't mind streaming him in standard leagues, depending on who else you have available.
Early did enough in his first start to earn standard league starts against the same team this time around.
Should You Add Sal Stewart?
Stewart is up 5.53% and is owned in 22.09% overall.
Stewart has been good since getting called up to the big leagues at the start of the month. He has seven hits over his past three games though, including homers in back-to-back games.
In his 11 games and 37 plate appearances so far, Stewart has 11 hits for a .297 average - he's failed to walk, so .297 is his on-base percentage too. Stewart has four homers among the hits, along with six RBIs, eight runs scored and eight strikeouts.
Stewart had been hitting in the bottom portion of the lineup, but has been in the fourth and fifth slots over his past two starts. Those are obviously better fantasy spots for him to be in. Really though, as long as he's in the top six and playing daily, there's fantasy value to take advantage of.
Expect the Reds to keep playing him daily down the stretch. That means he has some fantasy value to take advantage of.
Being a highly-regarded prospect, his dynasty/keeper owners have to be thrilled with his results at the plate of late. Right now though, he has redraft value.
I wouldn't mind scooping him up in deeper leagues - how own percentage really needs to be higher. At least utilize him until his bat cools off.
He's not a bad standard league option either. You want the hottest hitters on your roster right now, and he's been one of those hitters the past couple days.
It's worth looking into where Stewart is eligible to play, and picking him up if you have a need there.
Should You Add Daylen Lile?
Lile has been added in 4.29% of leagues, bringing his overall mark up to 61.96%.
Lile just continues to rake at the plate. He has five hits over his past three games, and has been red hot at the dish for a few weeks now.
In 14 games and 59 plate appearances this month, Lile is hitting .423 and getting on base at a .492 clip. He has five triples, three homers and two doubles among his 22 knocks in that span. Lile has nine RBIs, 14 runs scored, a stolen base, seven walks and nine strikeouts as well.
In 80 games and 310 plate appearances overall, Lile has a .292 average and .344 OBP. He has 14 doubles, nine triples and six homers among his 82 total knocks. Lile also has 31 RBIs, 45 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 20 walks and 50 strikeouts.
The outfielder might not be a major power threat, but on his average and OBP alone, he's worth adding in all leagues. He was heavily added a week or two ago, and I'm surprised his own percentage stopped rising quickly, because he really hasn't cooled off.
He needs to be rostered in deeper redraft leagues, and starting daily for that matter. Lile has to be performing better than some of your hitters you are starting daily.
I'm for adding Lile in standard leagues as well. He might be at a stacked position, but again, there's likely other hitters you are starting that Lile is outperforming of late.
Don't overlook Lile because he isn't hitting for a bunch of power. Add the mostly contact hitter to your lineup and I think you will like the results.
Should You Add Mickey Moniak?
Moniak is rostered in 14% of leagues - he was at 11% on September 14.
Moniak homered twice among his four hits on Sunday. He has seven hits over his past four games, but not a lot of other production to go along with the hits - you can blame the Rockies' offense for that.
Dating back to August 20, which is 21 games and 74 plate appearances, Moniak has a .324 average and .351 OBP, so this is an extended stretch of good hitting. He has three doubles and homers and two triples among his 23 knocks in that span, along with 13 RBIs, 11 runs scored, four stolen bases, three walks and 17 strikeouts.
For the season, Moniak has played in 126 games and logged 425 plate appearances. He has a .268 average and .306 OBP, along with 62 RBIs, 56 runs scored, nine stolen bases, 21 walks and 102 strikeouts. Moniak has 21 homers, 17 doubles and eight triples among his 107 total hits.
Maybe the former No. 1 overall pick has finally found a home for his MLB career? Regardless if he has or not, Moniak has fantasy value now playing for a rebuilding Rockies' squad.
The outfielder is at a stacked fantasy position, but is also producing enough now to be rostered in more leagues. I only see him as a deep-league asset, but he's worth watching in case he catches fire over the next several days - he'd be a decent standard league streamer then, especially if he can add more stats outside hits.
Should You Add Joey Cantillo?
Cantillo has been added in 2.45% of leagues, which brings his overall mark up to 23.31%.
Cantillo gets a start against the Tigers on Tuesday evening. He has faced them once this season, working a scoreless inning back on May 24.
He's turned into a starter over his past 10 appearances. Cantillo has covered 52 innings, allowing 18 runs (3.12 earned run average) on 42 hits and 24 walks. He has struck out 56 batters along the way.
Overall this season, Cantillo has a 3.36 ERA over 80 1/3 innings, while striking out 92 along the way.
His fantasy outlook as a starter is going up. He's maintained a good ERA, while striking out enough batters for a nice fantasy boost.
Cantillo is coming off an eight-inning shutout over the Royals. He allowed four hits, while striking out five and walking none in that contest.
That'd probably be his fantasy ceiling tonight. He's only worked six innings in one other start this year, but that was the start before his last one.
Cantillo is kind of flying under the radar right now. He's a better starting option than he appears at first glance, and the matchup isn't too daunting.
I'd be fine starting him in all deeper leagues tonight. He's also on the standard league streaming radar after what he's done of late.
