Fantasy Baseball Pitchers Struggling in June: Nick Pivetta, Brandon Pfaadt and More

Looking at pitching stats from the start of June to see what fantasy pitchers are trending down.

We took a look at some fantasy baseball pitchers trending up since the start of the month, and now are going to look at pitchers trending down.

We will keep our focus on notable fantasy assets.

Worst ERAs

Among starting pitchers with at least two starts made this month, Toronto's Bowden Francis has the worst earned run average at 18.00.

He's allowed 11 runs (10 earned) over five frames. Francis has surrendered 12 hits and seven walks, while striking out just four batters. Francis is down to 29% rostered and could be in jeopardy of losing his spot in the starting rotation.

Colorado's Chase Dollander has allowed seven runs on 10 hits and four walks over just six innings in two starts. He's struck out four batters. Dollander is only owned in 6% of leagues, and that shows you how his rookie season is going.

Athletics' Luis Severino has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 17 hits and five walks over 11 1/3 innings in his two starts in June - he's struck out six. Severino is rostered in 33% of leagues, and it's becoming harder and harder to justify starting him.

St. Louis' Matthew Liberatore has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) on 16 hits and two walks over nine innings this month. He's struck out six batters along the way. He's down to 57% owned right now and showing signs of regression after a very strong start to the season.

Philadelphia's Jesus Luzardo has given up nine runs on 14 hits and two walks over 8 1/3 innings this month. He's struck out 12 batters at least. Luzardo has dropped to 90% owned, but might be trending back up after allowing just one run against the Cubs in his last start.

Looking at pitchers with at least 10 innings worked this month, San Diego's Nick Pivetta and New York Yankees' Ryan Yarbrough have 8.10 ERAs, each pitching 10 frames.

Pivetta has allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 14 hits and three walks, while striking out eight. He's still owned in most leagues, but he's started to be dropped in a few. Pivetta will need to turn things around in his next start to avoid being dropped in several more leagues.

Yarbrough has been a streaming option of late, but he's down to 31% rostered after allowing eight runs in his last appearance. Yarbrough has allowed nine total runs this month, surrendering 13 hits and two walks, while striking out eight. We'll see if he can bounce back in his next appearance.

Worst WHIPs

Francis has an ugly 3.80 WHIP this month, which is easily the worst mark in the league amongst pitchers with at least five innings thrown.

Reliever Camilo Doval has a 2.32 WHIP over this month. He's somehow tied for the league lead in saves (4) though, so it hasn't impacted a ton yet. It's worth tracking to see if Doval can settle in though.

Miami's Max Meyer had a 2.20 WHIP in his one June start before hitting the injured list. He's way down to 28% rostered.

Arizona's Brandon Pfaadt has a 2.13 WHIP so far this month. He pitched better in his last appearance, but also only went five innings. Pfaadt is way down to 70% rostered after being near 100% in late May.

LA Angels' Tyler Anderson has a 2.00 WHIP this month, as does Detroit's Casey Mize and Liberatore.

Anderson is down to 27% owned right now. He's allowed eight runs over nine innings in his first two starts this month. Anderson is losing streaming value, especially because he's struggling against some weaker-hitting lineups.

Mize is down to 84% rostered. He's only allowed four runs this month, but also has only covered 10 innings in two starts. Mize is regressing after a stellar start to the season, so now might be the time to bail and try selling him in a trade.

Struggling Relievers

St. Louis' Ryan Helsley has struggled in June, blowing a league-leading three saves. He has no saves, but a win, over three appearances and innings pitched. Helsley has allowed three runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five. He's at 95% rostered, and is a shaky fantasy asset until he turns things around.

LA Dodgers' Matt Sauer has allowed nine runs on 13 hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings in his lone relief appearance this month. He took the loss in that outing and struck out six batters. Sauer had some fantasy appeal after allowing just two earned runs over his first four MLB appearances this season, but has allowed 14 runs in the four appearances he's made since.

Athletics' starter Jeffrey Springs has made two relief appearances this month. He's covered 12 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks - he has 15 punchouts over that span at least. Springs has been hit hard, but the six earned runs don't look terrible over that amount of innings. He's owned in just 37% of leagues now.
