Jake Cronenworth and Jasson Dominguez Among Top Fantasy Baseball Waiver Adds at Start of New Week
Looking at a few waiver wire hitters and pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
We already looked at fantasy baseball waiver wire hitters and pitchers to possibly add based on weekly projections, and now it's time to dive deeper on some waiver players surging up.
We'll check out hitters and pitchers in this story. We won't include any starting pitchers who appeared in the daily streaming article.
Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.
Should You Add Jake Cronenworth?
Cronenworth is up 2.13% today and now sits at 56.06% overall.
He's played in 15 games and gotten 59 plate appearances so far. Cronenworth spent a large chunk of the season on the injured list.
Cronenworth has a .267 average and .424 on-base percentage so far. He's homered three times and doubled twice among his 12 total knocks. Cronenworth also has nine RBIs, 11 runs scored and walks and 10 strikeouts as well.
Across three games and 15 plate appearances since returning from the injured list, Cronenworth has three hits, including a homer. He also has four RBIs, three walks, four runs scored and just one strikeout.
He's batted sixth and played second base in his first three games back. The Padres faced right-handed pitchers in all those games, which is noteworthy since Cronenworth is a left-handed hitter.
The Padres' lineup is stacked, so having fantasy hitters from the team is never a bad idea. Cronenworth might also have first base eligibility, so he's even more valuable than he appears, even if he's starting against righties only.
Depending on your current first and second basemen, Cronenworth is definitely worth considering as a possible standard league addition. He was drafted around pick 150, so many were expecting him to be a standard league asset this season.
He definitely should be rostered in deeper redraft leagues, and depending on your standard league fantasy setup, and if IR spots are available, Cronenworth could be a worthwhile add to many of you.
Should You Add Sean Burke?
Burke has been pretty solid so far this season. He's up 5.42% today, bringing his total mark to 28.98%.
Burke has made eight starts across nine appearances and covered 43 1/3 innings so far. He's 2-4 with a 4.15 earned run average. Burke has allowed 24 runs (20 earned) on 39 hits and 22 walks, while striking out 29 batters.
He was a streaming option on Sunday against the Marlins. Burke allowed a run on four hits and five walks, while striking out just two over four innings.
Burke had good starts against the Royals and Brewers in his two previous starts, but his season numbers aren't great, and his road ahead is not favorable. He's lined up to face the Cubs next, before a better matchup against the Rangers.
I'm not going to be a huge fan of starting Burke against the Cubs in any fantasy formats, so I don't understand adding him now, unless you are just going to stash him for his more favorable matchups.
He can be streamed against weaker-hitting teams, but his own percentage shouldn't be on the rise going into a bad matchup against the Cubs.
Should You Add Brett Baty?
Baty is up 2.36% today, bringing his overall mark to 7.07%.
Across 23 games and 70 plate appearances, Baty has a .227 average and .261 OBP. He has four homers, three doubles and a triple among his 66 total knocks. Baty also has 10 RBIs, a stolen base, seven runs scored, three walks and 21 strikeouts.
There's nothing that really stands out with those numbers, but he's been much better of late. Over his past five games and 14 plate appearances, Baty has four homers among his five knocks, along with eight RBIs, four runs scored, no walks and five strikeouts.
The power surge has Baty on the rise a bit as a fantasy asset. Baty hasn't shown much over his four seasons in the big leagues, but maybe we are finally witnessing his breakout.
Baty is just a fantasy option in really deep leagues right now. He'd need to keep producing for a week or so more before he'd get serious waiver consideration in deeper redraft leagues. It's fine to stream him in hopes his power surge continues, but that should only happen in the deepest of leagues.
One nice thing with Baty is that he should be eligible at second and third base, so that gives him a little more fantasy value. We'll see if he can keep things rolling, but I'm skeptical for now.
Should You Add Chad Patrick?
Patrick continued his strong rookie season with a solid start on Sunday against the Rays. He's up to 29.8% rostered after a 5.19% increase today.
Across nine appearances and eight starts, Patrick is 2-3, but with a 3.19 ERA. He's allowed 15 runs on 39 hits and 14 walks over 42 1/3 innings, while striking out 36 batters.
Patrick still hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start. He has failed to reach five innings in four of his eight starts though.
Patrick has been inconsistent with his strikeouts, finishing with between 2-6 over the past four outings. He's walked multiple batters in five of his starts.
Because he just started on Sunday, he's only going to be making one start this week. It's a pretty favorable matchup against the Twins though, so it makes sense to see Patrick on the rise a bit.
The Brewers' rotation was decimated by injuries early in the season, but it's starting to get healthier now. Brandon Woodruff is expected back later this week (more on that later in the week), so Patrick is going to have to keep pitching well to retain his rotation spot.
He's done well enough to this point, but in his first MLB season, we don't know if Patrick is capable of consistently pitching this well. I'm still fine adding him in some deeper leagues, and think he'll be a good streaming option if he does start against the Twins this week.
You'll want to keep an eye on Brewers' news to see who is going to be yanked from the rotation when Woodruff is ready to return though.
Should You Add Jasson Dominguez?
Dominguez was a waiver wire add over the weekend, and is still trending up today. He's rostered in 59.8% of leagues after another 2.88% bump up today.
Dominguez got people's attention when he homered three times and drove in seven runs on Friday night. Since then, he has two singles, two walks, three runs scored and three strikeouts (all Ks came on Sunday).
Across 34 games and 134 plate appearances this season, Dominguez has eight doubles and five homers among his 29 total knocks. He also has 19 RBIs, three stolen bases, 23 runs scored, 16 walks and 41 strikeouts. He has a .250 average and .343 OBP.
Dominguez has pretty solid numbers on the season, but that three-homer, seven-RBI effort a couple days ago really inflated his numbers. He was rostered in a lot of leagues because he's a highly-regarded young hitter on a big market team.
Dominguez should be rostered in just about every deeper redraft league though. At worst, he's a good secondary option in those leagues, and can start when he's hot at the plate, which I'd say he is now.
Dominguez is going to need to show me a bit more before I'd be a fan of adding him in standard leagues. He's of course a very good dynasty/keeper asset as just a 22-year-old getting his third season of big league play in now.
