Nicky Lopez provides contact stability as the everyday second baseman in Texas

Lopez has been swinging a hot bat lately, hitting .333 over his last 14 days and a stellar .351 over the past month. He currently serves as the primary second baseman for a first-place Rangers squad that leads the AL West with a 49-47 record. His role remains secure with Corey Seager currently sidelined on the injured list, which has necessitated Lopez's defensive versatility and high-contact approach in the middle of the lineup.

While his recent .351 average is significantly higher than his .250 season projection, it mirrors his 2021 career peak when he proved he could maintain a high baseline over a full season. His lack of power is expected, but the four stolen bases in his last 27 games show he is returning to his roots as a legitimate speed asset. Our models expect some regression in batting average, but his elite contact rate keeps his floor high for managers needing middle-infield depth.

The Rangers have a light three-game schedule remaining this week, consisting of a road series against a tough Atlanta Braves squad starting Friday. Facing an elite Braves pitching staff in their home park is a difficult matchup, particularly following a mid-week break.
