Week 5 Fantasy Football Expert Start/Sit Decisions: Brian Robinson vs. Jerome Ford vs. Chase Brown, Tyreek Hill vs. Rashid Shaheed vs. Christian Kirk and More
Sometimes the experts have questions too. I'd love to hear what you have to say and maybe even get some good advice.
Quarterback Questions
Lamar Jackson vs. Jayden Daniels
This has become a weekly question for me and it's never an easy decision. After making the right decision last week to start Daniels, I'm going with Lamar this week.
The choice came down to the matchup. Jackson takes on the Cincinnati Bengals and Daniels goes up against the Cleveland Browns. I prefer to attack the Bengals D.
Getting this decision wrong can completely swing my matchup so it's very stressful every week - even if having two of the best fantasy QBs in the league is a problem that a lot of people would love to have.
Running Back Questions
De'Von Achane vs. Trey Sermon
It's painful that this is even a question, but things have gotten far beyond ugly in Miami without Tua Tagovailoa. The entire offense and everyone in it has been completely useless since the moment he got injured.
This was the most explosive offense in the league last season and it features a litany of stars. Unfortunately, none of that seems to matter. Miami can't score and they can barely even move the ball. How can Tua make this huge of a difference that without him guys like Achane and Tyreek Hill are useless?
In Indianapolis, the Colts have ruled out Jonathan Taylor, which will leave the backfield to Sermon as the primary rusher with Tyler Goodson mixing in on passing downs. However, we project Sermon to get the majority of the carries and the red zone touches.
It makes sense why this is a conversation. Indy can at least occasionally get a first down or cross mid-field. Still, with all that said, I still have Achane in my lineup in hopes that he can break a big play and take it to the house.
Brian Robinson vs. Jerome Ford vs. Chase Brown
With Joe Mixon out yet again, I have to pick two of these running backs in my PPR league.
Brian Robinson would be an easy choice but he's dealing with an injured knee. He has been labeled as a game-time decision and reports have stated that Austin Ekeler is expected to see an increased workload this week. None of that gives me confidence in him this week.
There is very little exciting about Ford, but he's reliable and you know what you're going to get with him most weeks. Brown is the exact opposite. He's very exciting but comes with a lot of risk and a wide range of outcomes. I've been screaming from the mountain tops all week, all summer for that matter, that Brown is taking this backfield from Zack Moss. However, it's a real possibility that he doesn't and last week was just a fluke - at least for now.
My first choice was Robinson as my RB2. Since I went with a risky option there, I'm starting the safe option with Ford in my RB3/Flex spot.
Wide Receiver Questions
Terry McLaurin vs. Diontae Johnson
For the record, this team also has Tyreek Hill and Garrett Wilson and both are far too close to this conversation. Nonetheless, they are in and my WR3 comes down to McLaurin and Johnson.
Andy Dalton becoming the starter in Carolina has made all the difference in the world for Johnson. All of a sudden, the offense looks competent and he's catching a ton of his many targets just like he always has. You love to see it.
Down in our nation's capital, McLaurin is now linked to a young phenom at quarterback who is getting better with each passing week. We have seen flashes of what this duo can do and when they connect it's electric.
I ended up going with Johnson though. I'm taking the volume and floor over McLaurin who still feels like he needs that big play to give you the points you need. There is no doubt he's capable of that big play, nevertheless, give me the locked-in double-digit targets.
Tyreek Hill vs. Rashid Shaheed vs. Christian Kirk
I have to start two of these wideouts this week.
While Tyreek is in my lineup, I still want to talk about him. It's very understandable if you've decided to bench him. The route I've gone is I'm biting the bullet and letting it play out with him in my lineups. The hope is it's only two more games, then Tua should be back.
Shaheed is currently in my WR3 spot behind Hill and Drake London. Kirk has been seeing the targets and catching a lot of passes. On a rough bye week with a lot of injuries in this league, I need the upside of Shaheed, especially since Hill isn't the locked-in stud he's always been. Hill and Shaheed are in and Kirk is out.
Tight End Questions
Noah Fant vs. Erick All
Gross. The tight end scene is as ugly as it's ever been this season despite everyone loving the tight ends about a month ago. Turns out they're all useless for the most part, with a select few exceptions.
At the moment, I do have Fant in. There is a real chance that I make the change though. The rookie is coming on strong in Cincinnati. It didn't take him long to bypass Mike Gesicki as the top TE on the team. I expect him to get better and better as the year goes on. The question is though, is he there right now?
