Best Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers for Wednesday, Led by Jones and Cantillo

Let's jump right in today and look at five starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

Joey Cantillo, Cleveland Guardians @ Cincinnati Reds

The section on Singer was originally published in yesterday's article, as Singer was scheduled to pitch on Tuesday. After a Monday rainout, Singer's start was bumped to Wednesday.

We'll start today with a game in which we can target both teams with streaming pitchers. Cleveland might be our favorite target right now, ranking in (or very close to) the bottom five in runs, hits, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. Cincinnati hits for power, but they don't do much else, and they haven't mashed enough to make up for the lack of hits. The Reds also strike out a lot, setting a high ceiling for opposing pitchers.

Cantillo has put together a good season, doing at least average work with limiting hits, runs, and home runs. He has also been better than average with strikeouts, but Cantillo is walking too many guys, which can cause a few issues at times (both metrics match his career work). Cantillo is doing well enough to be worthy of consideration, though he is coming off two rough starts since the All-Star break, combining for 8 2/3 innings, 15 hits, and nine runs allowed in those games.

Singer has been at his best in June and July, combining for 52 1/3 innings, 41 hits, 17 earned runs, 16 walks, and 52 strikeouts in that time. His season-long stats aren't as rosy, but Singer has put up numbers more in line with his career bests over this recent stretch. He struggled against this Cleveland team on May 17 (seven hits and five runs in four innings), but that was before Singer started pitching his best, so it's reasonable to expect something better in this one.

Cantillo and Singer are both mid-level streamers today. The former has been a little better this season, but the latter has the better matchup, and both players are in line for a possible successful outing here.

Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Jones has found his way after a rough start to his 2026. He didn't make his debut until May 29 after missing the entire 2025 season, and he mixed good and bad starts through June. In four July starts, Jones has combined for 21 innings, seven hits, three runs, four walks, and 28 strikeouts. His fantasy ownership has grown to the point that he soon won't be a streamer; this might be your last chance to grab Jones if he is still a free agent in your league.

I've talked recently about how Arizona started the year struggling but has improved on offense over the past month-plus. Yesterday, I added that they have been much better at home than on the road, largely driven by Chase Field in Phoenix being one of the best hitter's parks in baseball. This game is in Pittsburgh, so while the Diamondbacks are improved over their full-season numbers, they aren't in as great a position as they could be.

Jones is a mid-to-high-level streamer. He does great strikeout work, so even though Arizona doesn't strike out a lot, there is a high ceiling here. I was way up on Jones heading into last season before he got injured, so I'm not surprised to see him excel now that he has worked his way back into the rotation.

Zack Littell, Washington Nationals vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto has been one of the worst offenses in baseball over the past month, ranking in the bottom five (or very close to it) in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS in that time. Their season-long numbers also show a lowly offensive team, particularly their last-place ranking in runs scored. Every team goes through ebbs and flows, and right now, there's not a much better team to target than the Blue Jays.

Littell has often been used as a bulk pitcher who comes in after an opener, making him the de facto starter even though he doesn't technically start. That actually gives him a little more value because he gets to skip the top of the lineup once and doesn't need to go five innings to pick up the win. Littell's performance hasn't been good enough, though, as he has an ERA of 5.17 and a strikeout rate far below average. He is also allowing a home run every four innings, a rate far worse than average. There's plenty of risk here.

Littell is a low-to-mid-level streamer. I am tempted to drop him a notch lower, but the fantastic matchup and his spot as a possible bulk reliever give him a little more fantasy value. I'm still staying away outside of super-deep leagues.

AJ Smith-Shawver, Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets

Smith-Shawver hasn't pitched in the big leagues since May 2025, recovering from Tommy John surgery in the meantime. He was good in 74 career innings before that injury, walking a few too many guys but doing average-or-better work with strikeouts, hits, runs, and home runs. He did high-level strikeout work in the minors, bringing hope that he can replicate that in the majors, and his numbers were very good in five appearances and 17 2/3 innings of rehab work this season. It's impossible to know what to expect from Smith-Shawver in his return, but there's plenty of upside heading into the future.

Over the full season, the Mets rank in the bottom 10 in essentially every offensive box stat; they were our favorite target for a long time. They have been better over the past month, looking average or even a little better during that time. Juan Soto hit the IL with a calf strain a few days ago, making them even more enticing, and given their struggles over a longer timeframe, I still feel good about going after New York with starting pitchers.

Smith-Shawver is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup is good, but not quite as great based on the recent numbers, with Soto's injury makes a real difference. With Smith-Shawver just coming off a long layoff, it's probably best to show some restraint, though deep-league owners might find this to be a sneaky pickup.
