Droppable Fantasy Baseball Players Ahead of the Weekend

We have one more fantasy baseball drop article for you before the work week wraps up.

MacKenzie Gore - Texas Rangers

Gore is sitting at 91% rostered right now. He was close to 100% for most of the season.

Gore allowed five runs over 5 1/3 innings in his last start, and his earned run average ballooned to 5.18 after that outing. Over eight starts, he's allowed 23 runs on 35 hits and 21 walks, while striking out 48 batters.

Gore has some strikeout upside, but he needs to limit runs better to be a good fantasy asset. He's been a bit above-average fantasy pitcher at the peak of his career so far.

Gore has started the season slow with Texas, and isn't easy to trust right now. That makes him a better standard league streamer, not someone to own and start repeatedly in those leagues. Keep tabs on Gore in case he finds a groove and starts pitching better at some point, but he's droppable for now.

Jeremiah Jackson - Baltimore Orioles

Jackson is at about 50% owned right now. He was near 80% as late as April 25.

Jackson had a hit last night, but that was his first one over the past three games he's played in. His average sits at .252 on the season, and he's getting on base at a .274 clip.

Jackson has 30 total hits now, including six home runs and three doubles. He also has 24 RBIs, 10 runs scored, a stolen base, three walks and 27 strikeouts. Jackson has started consistently with Jackson Holliday still working back from an injury, but with lower results of late, fantasy owners are moving on from Jackson.

I still like utilizing him in some deeper leagues for the time being, but Jackson is droppable in standard leagues. We'll see what his role looks like when Holliday returns, so be keeping close tabs on Jackson.

Emilio Pagan - Cincinnati Reds

Pagan is down to 67% rostered after he sustained an injury earlier this week. He's been above 90% for a good chunk of the season.

Pagan is out 4-8 weeks with a grade 2 left hamstring strain. The longer he's out, the more leagues he'll be dropped in.

The Cincinnati closer is 2-1 with six saves and three blown saves over 15 appearances this season. Pagan has allowed 10 runs on 14 hits and six walks, while striking out 11 batters over 14 frames.

His results have been shaky this season, which is leading to him being dropped after his injury. Keep tabs on his status and be ready to add him back as he nears a return, but he's not worth stashing in standard leagues unless you have unlimited IR spots, so Pagan is droppable today.

Ildemaro Vargas - Arizona Diamondbacks

Vargas is rostered in about 90% of leagues right now, but is starting to dip a bit. He was barely owned as of April 8, so it was a quick climb to nearly 100%.

He had a long hitting streak to open the season, but has gone hitless twice over six games so far this month. Vargas still has seven hits over six games thanks to a four-hit effort to open May.

In 19 games and over 120 plate appearances this season, Vargas has a .360 average and .381 OBP, which aren't sustainable marks. He has 41 hits, including seven doubles, two triples and six homers, plus 22 RBIs, 19 runs scored, four walks and 12 strikeouts.

He can play all over the field, which bumps his fantasy value up more. The D-Backs are starting to get healthier, so Vargas will need to keep hitting to stick in the lineup regularly. I'm not ready to move off him quite yet, but Vargas needs to be watched closely, because his strong fantasy run could be nearing an end.

Kyle Stowers - Miami Marlins

Stowers sits at about 70% rostered right now. He was over 80% earlier this season, even after starting the year on the injured list.

In 16 games and over 67 plate appearances so far, Stowers has a .220 average and .313 OBP. He has 13 hits, including three doubles. Stowers has eight runs scored, just one RBI, seven walks and 16 strikeouts.

Stowers was a good fantasy asset in 2025, but has started 2026 slowly after his injury. It's tough to move on from him after seeing what he did last year, but because he's at a loaded fantasy outfield spot, I think it's fine to drop him.

Keep tabs on Stowers, but for now, he's just not cutting it. Keep him around in deeper leagues, but drop him in most standard leagues.

Angel Martinez - Cleveland Guardians

Martinez is owned in about 48% of leagues at the moment. He's been over 50% for the past week or so, but has been up and down all season.

He has just one hit over the past three games, and he didn't start the last contest. Martinez had a three-hit game earlier this month, but has otherwise been below average since April 27.

Martinez has a .270 average and .311 OBP over 35 games and 121 plate appearances this season. He has 30 total hits, including seven doubles and five home runs. Martinez has 16 RBIs, 13 runs scored, five stolen bases, five walks and 24 strikeouts as well.

The outfielder could also be eligible at second base from past seasons, which helps his cause a bit, but he needs to deliver more at the plate to stick in fantasy leagues. He's a good deep-league asset, but one to move off in standard leagues when his bat is cold. Keep tabs on him, as I'm sure he has some more hot stretches in him.
