Breaking Down Popular Fantasy Baseball Trades with FantasySP's New Premium Trade Analysis
Using FantasySP's Fantasy Trade Expert to assess popular one-for-one fantasy baseball trades.
A couple days ago, I introduced FantasySP's Premium Trade Analysis in an article. Today, I'm back to have the Fantasy Expert help us out with a few trades.
The one-for-one trades we'll discuss today were trending on Wednesday.
Use the FantasySP Trade Value Chart and Trade Analyzer all season when assessing fantasy baseball trades. Also be sure to check out the new “Ask Fantasy Expert” tool inside the analyzer.
Should You Trade Bryce Harper for Matt Olson?
Harper and Olson each play first base, so this is a case where you're swapping players at the same position.
Harper is the higher-rated fantasy player between the two, and because our trade analyzer is run on player ratings, that's the higher graded side of the trade.
Both hitters are daily starters, and have a history of success to look back on. Both are each healthy and have similar upsides.
Among several sections put together by the Fantasy Expert, the recommendation is that this is a fair and balanced trade.
The team getting Harper has the following advice: “If you prefer a slightly higher OBP, some speed, and a steadier average, Harper is your guy.”
The side getting Olson states: “If your team can absorb a lower average and wants pure HR/RBI firepower, Olson brings as high a ceiling as any 1B.”
For both teams, it adds that “This is a stylistic trade—check if the player coming in fits your lineup needs, but no value is lost on either side.”
Every fantasy manager has their personal preference on players, and some will favor Harper here, while others want Olson. Like the player ratings, I prefer Harper by a little bit, but these players are close enough where it's a fair trade.
Because Harper was drafted a bit higher than Olson, I'd try to expand this deal and add a second player on each side. Adding a player with a little more value on Olson's side would probably be enough for me to hit accept.
Should You Trade Paul Goldschmidt for Jorge Polanco?
This trade is pretty close in value too. Goldschmidt has a 16.29 mark right now, while Polanco is at 14.88. That means Goldy's side of the trade is viewed as the stronger end of the offer.
Both are off to strong starts at the plate this season, and regression should be coming for both hitters. Goldschmidt plays first base, while Polanco is a second and third baseman, so swapping the players could help teams lacking at first or second base. This also could just be a simple swap of red-hot hitters based on who you think will remain fantasy relevant for longer.
Factoring in Polanco's position versatility adds a little fantasy value to him as well, so this trade is probably even closer than the analyzer says.
As far as what the Fantasy Expert thinks, this trade is viewed as fair and not lopsided.
Goldy is viewed as having a “Safer floor, steady production, strong in runs, average, and RBI. Power is a bit down, but overall profile is less volatile than Polanco's.”
Polanco's upside and downside is as follows: “Higher power ceiling (currently), but more streak-prone and coming off a cold stretch. Positional flexibility is useful.”
The trade is viewed as a swap to address fantasy team needs. I'm also in favor of accepting this trade from either side, but also prefer Goldy a bit more. This is closer than the Harper for Olson swap for me, and I'd be more open to the one-for-one swap.
The bottom line of the fantasy expert is “This trade is both fair and balanced, involving two healthy, well-owned and started infielders with strong 2025 production. Goldschmidt offers steadier floor and positional safety at 1B, while Polanco carries more recent power upside but extra volatility. No one is “throwing in” a weak asset or taking on a clear injury risk. Approve this trade with confidence — both teams are making reasonable, strategic moves for their rosters.”
Should You Trade Steven Kwan for Jacob deGrom?
This is a fun trade offer I came across on the popular trades section of the FSP analyzer.
Kwan is the higher-rated player of the two, but deGrom is close enough to make this an intriguing trade offer both ways. Kwan is the preferred side of the trade seeing he's rated at 16.62, while deGrom is at 15.26.
deGrom is one of the top fantasy pitchers when he's healthy. The problem is that he's missed a ton of time over his career, so his fantasy value is always at least a bit lower than it probably should be.
Kwan has some red-hot stretches at the plate, and when he's not in a groove, he's still a pretty good fantasy asset.
I prefer the Kwan side of the deal, but could understand taking a swing on deGrom if your pitching was lacking. I think this is the most fair trade of the three we've discussed today.
Let's see what the Fantasy Expert thinks about things.
Both players have strong upsides. deGrom's is “If you need a rotation anchor and are willing to accept risk, he's a potential game-changer.” Kwan's is “If you want a guaranteed points accumulator in your outfield, Kwan offers as safe a floor as you'll find, with some modest power/speed upside.”
The deal is viewed as one made to address team needs, as I just said myself. It's a fair and acceptable trade on both sides of things.
The Fantasy Expert urges fantasy owners adding deGrom to make sure they have enough depth still, in case deGrom gets injured again.
The bottom line is as follows: “This is a fair, balanced trade between two highly valuable, universally rostered starters. Both players will make an immediate impact for their new teams, with each side taking on a well-understood risk/reward profile. Approve this trade with confidence.”
