Tuesday Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Can Ben Brown Find Success Against Marlins?

I mentioned yesterday that some people hype up Monday a little bit because it's a new week with which to start fresh. Those people argue that Tuesday is actually the worst day. I can kind of see the reasoning, but the reality is that Tuesday is one day closer to Friday than Monday is, so I have to favor Monday still as the worst day, especially when we're not in football season.

With an eye on fantasy baseball, let's look at six starting pitchers in action on Tuesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Andrew Abbott, Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago White Sox

Hey Abbott! (It's a good day.) Abbott gets maybe the best matchup of the day, as the White Sox are in the bottom five in essentially every offensive stat, a feat they also accomplished last season. There's not much more to say; Chicago is a good target for every fantasy pitcher.

Abbott has made five starts since beginning the season on the IL, totaling 24 innings and just seven runs allowed (six earned). He has 31 strikeouts but also a few too many walks (12). It has worked so far, though, as Abbott has an ERA under 2.50 and hasn't allowed an earned run in either of his previous two starts.

Abbott is a high-level streamer. He's a must-start fantasy player today, partnering good performance with a top-tier matchup.

Ben Brown, Chicago Cubs vs. Miami Marlins

Miami has been a very average offensive team in 2025. That's a mild surprise, as I pegged them more like the bottom-10 unit they sported last year, but Miami has put up decent numbers so far. They are far from a dangerous offense, though, and can be targeted in the right circumstances.

Brown represents that circumstance. The Cubs are in a stretch of really good matchups against the Marlins, White Sox, Reds, Rockies, and Nationals; they don't play a team other than those five until June 6. With so many good matchups, Chicago pitchers are going to be strong streamers. Brown has done high-level strikeout work, racking up 108 Ks in 91.2 career innings.

Brown is a mid- to high-level streamer here. I like him as much for the next four weeks as I do just for today, but I also like the idea of putting Brown in my lineup for this one. Brown could make up to five starts during this stretch.

Kyle Freeland, Colorado Rockies @ Texas Rangers

Jack Leiter, Texas Rangers vs. Colorado Rockies

Two of the worst offenses in baseball are facing off here, and luckily for our purposes, they are playing in Texas, not Colorado. (Fun note: only four teams use a state name as their location, and these are two of them, along with Minnesota and Arizona. I'm counting New York as meaning New York City, not the state, but you could include those too I suppose.) The Rockies are another contender for worst offense in the league, while the Rangers are fighting for the bottom five.

Freeland has had a rough go of it. After six scoreless innings in his first start of the season, he has allowed at least three runs in each of his subsequent seven outings, totaling 34 runs in 33.1 innings. Six of those runs are unearned, but Freeland hasn't been excelling.

Leiter has 58.2 innings the past two seasons with both a walk rate and strikeout rate several percentage points worse than average. Nothing has really worked: Leiter has given up 63 hits in that time and has a 7.36 ERA.

Both Freeland and Leiter are low-level streamers. The matchup is right for maybe their best outings of the year, but neither pitcher has shown enough to earn a spot in your lineup unless you're either desperate or in a super deep league. I slightly prefer Leiter because of his pedigree.

Cade Povich, Baltimore Orioles vs. Minnesota Twins

Simeon Woods Richardson, Minnesota Twins @ Baltimore Orioles

We'll finish with two more players facing each other who both have matchups that could help them to nice days. The Twins aren't an automatic target team. They are close to 20th in many offensive stats, right at the edge of the 10 worst offensive teams but maybe just a hair above that level. Baltimore has no such ambiguity, ranking firmly in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, doubles, walks, batting average, and on-base percentage. The Orioles hit for a little power, but they are also just outside the top 10 in most batter strikeouts.

Povich is a little worse than average with both walks and strikeouts, particularly the latter. His last start was last Tuesday against these same Twins, when Povich threw six innings but allowed five runs. He had four strikeouts and no walks while picking up the loss.

Woods Richardson is a little better than Povich in both K and BB rate, but they are a similar level of pitcher. His previous start was also against Baltimore, and Woods Richardson would have picked up the win, but he only went 4.2 innings and didn't qualify (one strikeout, one walk, two runs allowed).

Povich is a low-level streamer and Woods Richardson a low- to mid-level streamer. Woods Richardson is the slightly better pitcher and has the better matchup, so he has the advantage in this one if you're looking to choose between the two (or make a bet on the first five innings).

Tuesday's Streamer Rankings

  1. Andrew Abbott, CIN
  2. Ben Brown, CHC
  3. Simeon Woods Richardson, MIN
  4. Cade Povich, BAL
  5. Jack Leiter, TEX
  6. Kyle Freeland, COL
