Seth Lugo Sidelined with Concussion, Return Timeline Remains Uncertain

Seth Lugo is currently sidelined on the seven-day injured list after suffering a concussion from a scary line drive to the forehead on June 10. Prior to the injury, the veteran right-hander was a stabilizing force for the fifth-place Royals, who carry a 30-45 record. With Cole Ragans also on the injured list, Kansas City's rotation depth is severely tested.

When active this year, Lugo has pitched to a 3.94 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 77.7 innings, closely aligning with our rest-of-season projection of a 3.96 ERA. While his WHIP has ballooned compared to his elite 1.12 mark in 2024, his steady track record suggests he will remain a viable mid-rotation starter once cleared. Expect some regression back toward his career norms once he returns to the mound.

Although Lugo is tentatively penciled in to start on June 19 against the Cardinals, his recovery timeline remains highly uncertain. Fantasy managers should not count on him returning to action this week, making him a mandatory bench option until he officially clears concussion protocols. Sit him for the week ahead.
