Hey folks. Welcome back to another fantasy hockey update where the injury news and lineup shuffles are more volatile than ever.

This week, we're zooming in on a storm brewing in Tampa Bay, where a mix of returning stars and a few question marks has created the classic “one up and two down” scenario.

We have another two stars who are out with questionable return dates as well, so fantasy managers need to pay attention to who is gaining traction, who is in flux, and where the real value might be in the coming stretch of games.

December's heavy NHL schedule will make watching injuries, and the waiver wire critical for gaining the edge in your weekly matchups.

Logan Cooley - Utah Mammoth

Cooley is out due to a lower-body injury, but has quietly been carving out a name for himself, and fantasy managers should take notice. Over the past couple of weeks, injuries and lineup shuffles have opened up opportunities for him to fill a top six role, increasing his deployment. All signs point to this not being serious, however he has been sidelined indefinitely.  Hopefully this doesn't stifle his season momentum.

From a fantasy standpoint, opportunity equals upside. Increased ice time means more shots on goal, more chances to accumulate assists, and an overall higher floor for points. Every year, this player seems to get better and better, and has gone from depth forward to steady and trustable forward who is good for a strong start in any matchup.

Cooley has 14 goals, nine assists, and four powerplay points in 29 games played as a forward. He also has 59 shots on goal, 34 hits, and 13 blocked shots.

Shane Pinto - Ottawa Senators

Pinto is sidelined with a lower-body injury expected to keep him out for at least two weeks. His absence immediately reshuffles the Senators' lineup, opening top six minutes and powerplay opportunities for other forwards. This injury will hurt the Senators down the middle, so watch for them to try to find a fit for both their center depth, and their powerplay units.

Fantasy managers should watch who slides into his role, as that player could see a short-term spike in points and ice time.

From a fantasy perspective, Pinto's injury is a double-edged sword, while he's unavailable. It creates temporary value elsewhere.  Once he returns, he will slide right back into his role; however, the red hot Canadian hockey club may stumble their momentum with this loss.

For now, savvy managers can exploit the gap of Pinto's absence to add emerging forwards or chase matchup-based gains while the opportunity lasts. Ridly Greig comes to mind, and may see some increased deployment.

Pinto has 12 goals, six assists, and one powerplay point in 27 games played as a forward. He also has 65 shots on goal, 34 hits, and 18 blocked shots.

A Storm Brewing - Tampa Bay Lightning

Now we move to Florida in our “one up, two down” scenario as the Bolts see some huge lineup changes as they are the latest victim of the injury bug.

Nikita Kucherov

Kucherov is currently listed as day-to-day, leaving the Lightning short one of the most prolific point producers in the league. His status impacts their top line deployment, powerplay structure, and secondary scoring across the roster. If Kuch misses significant time, other forwards are expected to step up, shifting both ice time, deployment, and fantasy relevance.

Fantasy managers should monitor the situation closely. Kucherov's return could immediately reignite his scoring pace, but his absence could create competition for deployment, but also a huge hole in their production, specifically from a playmaker standpoint. His status isn't just a fantasy factor - it directly impacts Tampa Bay's offensive balance and workload distribution.

Kucherov has 12 goals, 22 assists, and nine powerplay points in 25 games as a forward. He also has 81 shots on goal, seven hits, and nine blocked shots.

Victor Hedman

Hedman is back in the Lightning lineup after missing 12 games. His return immediately stabilizes Tampa Bay's defensive core and powerplay unit (well, if it weren't for Kuch being out of the lineup). He quarterbacks the top powerplay unit, and is their top blueliner. His return makes a huge impact on their defensive structure.

Not only does Hedman provide fantasy value through peripherals, but his presence allows the team to distribute minutes more predictably across the blue line.

For fantasy managers, Hedman's comeback means a reliable source of points and a high floor of peripheral stats. Additionally, his return may slightly reduce the upside for other defensemen who picked up extra ice time in his absence, but the Bolts' overall defensive efficiency improves significantly.

Hedman has zero goals, 12 assists, and six powerplay points in 16 games played as a defenseman. He also has 23 shots on goal, seven hits, and 28 blocked shots.

Andrei Vasilevskiy

Vasilevskiy remains day-to-day, leaving Tampa Bay in flux at the crease. If he is out, Jonas Johansson will see increased starts, affecting not only saves and wins but also the Lightning's overall defensive confidence. That said, Johansson has seen success in short bursts with Vasilevskiy before, specifically the start of last season where he took on the majority of the workload.

Vasilevskiy's potential return will immediately restore elite fantasy value in wins and saves, but any missed time creates an opportunity for Johansson, unless you're going to stream other options.

Fantasy managers must track his status until an official timeline is released by the Bolts. A healthy Vasilevskiy is a must-start elite goaltender with a huge workload, but his injury situation also directly influences the team's defensive structure and how minutes are managed on both blueliners and forwards.

Vasilevskiy has 11 wins in 19 games started as a goaltender. He also has a .917 save percentage, 2.31 goals against average, and one shutout.

Johansson has five wins in nine games started as a goaltender. He also has an .897 save percentage, 2.83 goals against average, and zero shutouts.
