Fantasy Hockey Sell High Trade Candidates: Pavel Dorofeyev, Kiefer Sherwood and More
Shelmo discusses several players who you should consider selling high on to bring back long-term value into your roster.
Hey folks. We're a few weeks into the season, and fantasy managers have started to panic on players, and also started making trades to retool their teams. Now is the perfect time to sell high early and get the maximum value for overperforming players.
Maybe some of these forwards will keep their pace for the rest of the season, feel free to take that risk; however, statistics and history shows they are likely to slow down.
Sell high on these guys, and get whatever you can and plan more for the future, and less for the now before they inevitably slow down and come back down to earth.

Pavel Dorofeyev - Vegas Golden Knights
Dorofeyev started the season on the top line with Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner, but has since bounced around in a middle six role, but despite being demoted, has continued to serve time on the top powerplay unit.
Dorofeyev is scoring at an unsustainable pace, but is still chipping in on special teams. His peripherals aren't great, and while I do think he is a sell-high candidate because of his goal pace, that doesn't mean he isn't a serviceable roster player and confident starter.
While he isn't going to end up with 70-80 goals as he is on pace for, he may end up with that many points, which is elite, especially given the limited amount of NHL experience he has. Last year was his first full season in the league, and so far this season he does not look out of place at all.
For me, Dorofeyev could be a hold with lowered expectations, but is also a high-value player who will sustain value in the future, especially for dynasty leagues.
Dorofeyev has nine goals, one assist, and six powerplay points in 11 games played as a forward. He also has 33 shots on goal, four hits, and five blocked shots.
Kiefer Sherwood - Vancouver Canucks
Sherwood was drafted in fantasy leagues for hits, not for goals. How he has nine already this season is wild. His shooting percentage is over 30, which is unreasonably unsustainable, even for the best snipers in the league. Sherwood only has 52 career goals, with nine of them coming this season over only 12 games.
Unsuspecting fantasy league managers may see this, coupled with his league leading hits and believe Sherwood may be starting some sort of unicorn like season; however, history says that Sherwood will come back down to earth and be a hits category player, who will chip in offensively at a bottom six forward rate. You can bank on it.
Sherwood has nine goals, zero assists, and two powerplay points in 12 games played as a forward. He also has 24 shots on goal, 54 hits, and seven blocked shots.
Shane Pinto - Ottawa Senators
Pinto and Dylan Cozens are battling for the second line center role, and by all rights it should be Pinto's. Pinto is having the best start of his career, but it is unlikely to continue.
Pinto is and will be a middle six forward, who is very skilled and has bursts of offensive brilliance, however he is not a point per game player.
Right now he is overperforming expectations, and now is the best chance you'll likely have all season to move him for more than he's worth. Take advantage now, while he has points in bunches and keep in mind he is a middle six forward who is not on the top powerplay unit on a team that can struggle in the standings.
Pinto has eight goals, three assists, and zero powerplay points in 12 games played as a forward. He also has 35 shots on goal, eight hits, and seven blocked shots.
Dawson Mercer - New Jersey Devils
Riding team success and offensive prowess is Mercer. Another middle six forward who is having an aforementioned unicorn season, Mercer is white hot right now and his ideal trade time is now.
Mercer is not just putting up points, but is also accumulating really solid peripherals for a forward. He is double digits in all shots, hits, and blocks, plus he is at a point per game.
Despite his middle six minutes, he currently has a spot on the top powerplay line alongside an absolutely lethal Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, Dougie Hamilton, and Jack Hughes. It's safe to say Mercer is among elite company, and his position in special teams does give him value, so long as he can keep his spot.
Mercer has six goals, five assists, and four powerplay points in 11 games played as a forward. He also has 20 shots on goal, 10 hits, and 14 blocked shots.
Justin Brazeau - Pittsburgh Penguins
A second liner who is taking advantage of every minute of ice time, on a team having a miracle comeback season, that's Brazeau in a nutshell. Not only are the Pens performing way above expectations, but so is Brazeau.
Currently listed as day-to-day, his absence does not seem to be serious and he's played every game this season, chipping in a point per game. Playing on the second line with Evgeni Malkin, who is also having a resurgence season, it seems the Pens have somehow managed to get blood from a stone to start this season.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry has won five of six starts, Sidney Crosby is again playing at over a point per game - it seems like general manager Kyle Dubas has found the holy grail and shared some water from the fountain of youth to his aging hockey club.
Even both Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang has seemed to turn back the clock, so it's not a surprise that Breazeau is having the start of his career. Considering he has not yet played a full season at age 27, I would be trying to deal him to every team in your fantasy league and getting whatever proven value you can get for him. He should be a streamer at best, so take advantage of this hot start and put him on your must sell trading block.
Brazeau has six goals, six assists, and two powerplay points in 12 games played as a forward. He also has 22 shots on goal, 17 hits, and 12 blocked shots.
