Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Options: Giancarlo Stanton, Jeff McNeil and More

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers and hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

We're back with another fantasy baseball waiver wire article!

We won't cover anyone who appeared in waiver stories on Monday or Tuesday, and will skip any pitchers who appeared in Wednesday's streaming story.

Should You Add Jurickson Profar?

Profar has been added in 4.18% of fantasy leagues and is up to 81.59% overall.

It seems that Profar has been on the waiver wire list at least once a week since he returned from his suspension. He's on a good run at the plate, so it's fair to see him being added more and more.

Profar is on a three-game hitting streak, with six knocks over that span. He has 20 hits over the month of August, which spans 18 games.

Among the 20 hits, Profar has seven home runs, two doubles and a triple. He's also delivered 17 RBIs and scored 18 runs this month, while also tallying 17 walks, four stolen bases and 12 strikeouts. Profar has nine RBIs and six runs scored over the past three days.

Two of those games have come against the White Sox, when the Braves erupted for 20 total runs. Things will get tougher over time, so don't expect Profar, or the Braves' offense in general, to stay this hot.

Profar still has been a good fantasy hitter since the month began, so he's a good waiver wire add. He's at a stacked outfield spot, so his own percentage would be much higher already if that wasn't the case.

I'd be fine giving Profar a spot on my standard league roster for the time being. It's also a time to possibly sell him high if he's a depth option for you.

Should You Add Giancarlo Stanton?

Stanton sits at 54% rostered and should see that rise after a big showing on Tuesday.

He hit two homers, drove in four runs, walked once, scored twice and didn't strike out in Tuesday's lopsided win over the Rays. He too has been hot in August, sporting a .417 average over 13 games.

Stanton has 15 hits, including six homers and a double, this month. He also has 15 RBIs, seven runs scored and walks and 11 strikeouts.

He didn't start in the three games before that because of general soreness. Clearly there's nothing to worry about after what he did on Tuesday.

Stanton has been playing the field of late so that Aaron Judge can also get into the lineup. If Stanton hasn't earned position eligibility in right field yet, he should be getting it soon.

Once he is eligible in the outfield, his own percentage should skyrocket. He's been really good since returning from his injury. He should be added and started daily in most leagues.

Keep a close eye on his position eligibility and be ready to pounce as he nears outfield status.

Should You Add Jeff McNeil?

McNeil is also coming off a big game. He's rostered in 14% of fantasy leagues right now.

He had a double and homer among his three hits on Tuesday. McNeil drove in three runs, walked once and scored two runs.

McNeil has eight hits over his past four games, including the homer and two doubles. He also has three RBIs, six runs scored, a walk and two strikeouts.

He hadn't been filling the box score up until Tuesday, but he's been trending in the right direction of late. McNeil has a .302 average and .353 on-base percentage over the month of August, so he's worth an add in some more leagues.

The Mets have faced a string of right-handed pitchers, which means he's starting a lot of late. McNeil has hit fifth in each of the team's past five contests.

That's a favorable spot for a fantasy hitter, especially in a pretty good lineup like the Mets. McNeil struggled to get rolling in July, but has turned things around in August.

I'm a bit surprised his own percentage isn't higher right now, but that means more of you can add McNeil if you are interested in him. He's just a deep-league asset in my eyes, but if he stays hot at the plate, then he could work back into some standard leagues again.

Give him a short-term add in your deeper leagues at least, and standard league owners should also keep him on a watch list in case this hot streak continues.

Should You Add Riley O'Brien?

O'Brien is trending up, but is only at 3% owned.

He's getting some waiver wire attention because he's working in high-leverage moments for the Cardinals. The reliever is 1-0 with two saves and blown saves and five holds on the year.

O'Brien earned his second save on Tuesday against the Marlins, striking out two to work around a pair of walks. He also struck out two in 1 2/3 innings on Sunday, but took a blown save that day.

He's allowed just one run this month, and it came in his first appearance back on August 4. He has five strikeouts and four hits and walks allowed over 7 2/3 innings. O'Brien has earned a decision, whether that's been good or bad, in all but one of his seven appearances in August.

For the season, O'Brien has a 1.56 earned run average over 34 2/3 innings and 29 appearances. He has 34 strikeouts along the way.

If he's also earning some saves, his fantasy outlook is improved. He's not earning every save chance yet though, and with St. Louis not being the best team, he's not the best fantasy asset, and that's why he's barely rostered in any fantasy leagues.

O'Brien is a fantasy reliever to keep an eye on, but he'll likely top out as a deep-league asset the rest of the year.

Should You Add Charlie Morton?

Morton got added in 3.35% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 41.84%.

He's a streaming option on Wednesday - Morton will face the Astros in an afternoon tilt. He has not faced them yet this season.

Morton has made three starts for the Tigers since being traded at the deadline. He has two good starts and a blowup outing since.

He worked six innings and took a loss against the Phillies on August 3. Morton only allowed a run on four hits and a walk though - he struck out six.

Morton was roughed up for six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings against the Angels on August 9. He made up for that poor outing with 10 strikeouts at least.

He earned a win against the Twins in his last start, striking out five over six scoreless frames. Morton allowed two hits and three walks.

Overall this season, Morton is 8-10 with a 5.20 ERA. He's allowed 70 runs (68 earned) on 123 hits and 53 walks, while striking out 122 batters over 117 2/3 innings.

I don't love the matchup against the Orioles, but Morton's fantasy outlook is better on the Tigers than it was while he was with the Orioles.

I don't think I'd be comfortable starting him in standard leagues today, and he's not even a great option in deeper leagues. I get you want to stream someone, but he's not the right option today. I'd skip Morton if I could and look elsewhere.
