Fantasy Football Week 9 Running Back Start/Sit: Raheem Mostert, Chase Brown, Javonte Williams and More
These are the running backs that need to be either in your lineup or on your bench for Week 9.
Start
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins
Both Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill have struggled against Buffalo throughout their career. The Bills are also particularly tough against quarterbacks and wide receivers this season. However, they are allowing the second-most fantasy points in the league to running backs.
In his three games back from injury, Mostert is averaging 13 carries per game and about two targets per game. He is also seeing plenty of red zone work and coming off of a two-TD game. Everyone will be starting De'Von Achane this week, but you can also plug in Mostert.
Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons
This is another RB2 you can plug in due to the matchup. Despite being second fiddle to Bijan Robinson, Alleier has seen double-digit carries in two of his last three games, including an 18-carry, 105-yard, and one-TD game during that stretch.
Atlanta is going to slam Dallas on the ground with both running backs this week. The Cowboys are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to running backs this season. This is a matchup where you can start both Falcons' RBs.
Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The matchup for White is scary this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. They are allowing the fewest fantasy points to running backs in the league. As long as the Bucs are missing Mike Evans, the passing attack is going to run through White and Cade Otton.
In the past two games, White has caught 11 of 12 targets for 109 yards and three TDs. We fully expect him to struggle on the ground, but he is far too important to this offense as a pass-catcher to leave on your bench regardless of the matchup.
Chase Brown, Cincinnati Bengals
There is no more debate, Brown is the guy in Cincy. He has surpassed Zack Moss on the depth chart and has now seen double-digit carries in five straight games, along with multiple receptions in every one of those games.
He has a strong matchup this week against the Las Vegas Raiders, who are allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs and should also be in a favorable game script in this one.
Sit
Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos
Williams was back to his awful ways in Week 8 after a couple of surprisingly solid games. Ultimately, we have simply come to the conclusion that he's just not very good.
This week, he draws the Baltimore Ravens, who have been tough on even good running backs. They force teams to throw the ball a ton and have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. You should leave Williams on your bench most weeks, however, he is an even worse-than-usual start this week.
Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars
It sounds like Etienne is going to be back this week, but we'd advise against plugging him right into you're lineup. We project him to be volatile at best. His role will be questionable and he comes with a massive re-injury risk.
Tank Bigsby isn't going to just go away either. With that said, even if only one of the Jags' running backs is active, we'd still try to avoid them. The Philadelphia Eagles are allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season and will likely jump out to a big lead in a blowout, forcing them to try to throw the ball.
Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns
Chubb hasn't looked great since returning and has a brutal matchup this week. The Los Angeles Chargers are allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season.
There is also a chance that Jerome Ford returns this week, which only throws another level of volatility into the mix. With or without Ford returning, we'd still leave Chubb on our bench this week and for the foreseeable future if possible. He's little more than a guy that we hope falls into the end zone at this point.
Devin Singletary, New York Giants
There is an outside chance that Tyrone Tracy will suit up this week, but odds are he sits this one out after suffering a concussion on Monday Night Football. His absence would thrust Singletary back into an every-down role, making him an intriguing option for fantasy owners.
We would still suggest leaving him on your bench regardless of Tracy's status. The game script could be trouble for the Giants' rushing attack against the Washington Commanders. They are scoring points in bunches and could have New York behind the eight ball in a hurry this week.
