Fantasy Baseball Drop Candidates: 5 Players You Can Cut Before the Weekend
Injuries, slumps and inconsistent production have turned these once-useful fantasy options into potential roster cuts.
Let's turn our attention to some possible fantasy baseball drop candidates before the weekend hits.
More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Salvador Perez - Kansas City Royals
Perez sits at 66% rostered in fantasy baseball leagues right now. He continues to trend downward, with a nagging elbow injury holding him out recently.
Perez has underwhelmed most of this season, sitting with a .201 average and .241 on-base percentage through 81 games and 340 plate appearances. He has 10 doubles and home runs among his 64 total hits. Perez has 30 RBIs, 29 runs scored, 12 walks and 69 strikeouts.
Perez has been a high-end fantasy asset over the years, but has dropped off big time this year. His eligibility at catcher and first base is still valuable, but if he's not delivering at the plate, he's not worth owning in as many fantasy leagues.
He's a guy to keep tabs on in case his bat ever gets going, but Perez looks like a better deep-league fantasy asset for now. Drop him in standard leagues, especially with him missing time now.
Davis Martin - Chicago White Sox
Martin is sitting at 95% owned right now. He's trending down after his most recent start.
He only allowed two runs, but lasted just 3 1/3 innings against the Guardians. Martin allowed six hits and five walks, and failed to strike out a batter.
Martin had pitched well in his two starts before that, which followed a nine-run blowup start. Simply put, Martin is not consistent right now.
He has a 3.08 earned run average over 17 starts this season, and that's why he's still owned in most leagues. Martin is 9-3 and has 90 strikeouts over 96 1/3 innings. He's allowed 33 runs on 92 knocks and 29 walks.
Martin is trending down now, and is starting to look more and more like a standard league streaming option only. Don't be afraid to drop him in standard leagues today. See if you could trade him away, but don't expect much in return after some rough starts of late.
Brent Rooker - Athletics
Rooker is rostered in 53% of leagues right now. That should evaporate after it was announced that he'd miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury.
With Rooker out for the remainder of the season, he's not worth holding in any redraft leagues. He could still be held in dynasty leagues.
He played just 48 games this season, and struggled when out there. Rooker had a .200 average and .281 OBP over 203 plate appearances. He had 36 knocks, including 10 home runs and four doubles, plus 29 RBIs, 20 runs scored, two stolen bases, 19 walks and 65 strikeouts.
Rooker should be dropped immediately in redraft leagues. Use that roster spot on someone else, and hope that Rooker can get back on the field healthy next season.
Cole Ragans - Kansas City Royals
Ragans is owned in 52% of leagues right now. He has also been ruled out for the season.
He has to get UCL surgery, and he's expected to miss 10-12 months. This injury will not only sideline Ragans the rest of this season, but also a good portion of the 2027 MLB season.
Ragans can be dropped in all redraft leagues immediately. Only hold him in dynasty leagues.
The 28-year-old made eight starts this season. He went 1-4 with a 4.84 ERA over 35 1/3 innings. Ragans allowed 20 runs (19 earned) on 27 hits and 23 walks, while striking out 45 batters.
Hopefully he can get his arm cleaned up and be healthy in the years to come. For now, he's off the redraft fantasy radar.
Casey Schmitt - San Francisco Giants
Schmitt sits at 94% owned right now. He's slightly trending down over the past few days though.
He is hitless over his past four appearances. He has an RBI in that span, but no runs scored or walks. Schmitt has just two strikeouts in that stretch, so at least he's been making contact.
Schmitt has a .278 average and .304 OBP over 78 games and 326 plate appearances this season. He has 16 homers, 15 doubles and a triple among his 86 total hits. Schmitt has 43 RBIs, 37 runs scored, seven stolen bases and walks and 63 strikeouts.
The versatile defender has been a fantasy surprise this season. Schmitt is worth holding through some struggles, unless they last weeks, not days. Look to possibly buy low on him, or scoop him up if he gets dropped in your leagues. Better days should be ahead for Schmitt.
