Top Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Bats and Streamers for Friday

Let's put together another fantasy baseball waiver wire/streaming article on the final day of the work week.

We will primarily be covering hitting options in this article, as we already covered some starting pitcher streamers for Friday. Here are waiver stories that included hitters from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Spencer Jones - New York Yankees

Jones has already been added in 5.1% of fantasy baseball leagues today, and that should continue to rise after he officially gets added to the big league team. He's sitting at 11.75% rostered right now.

Jones is a highly-touted prospect, but has fallen out of the top-100 prospects in baseball. He's the Yankees' No. 6 prospect, and will be making his MLB debut. Jones is getting called up after Jasson Dominguez got injured on Thursday.

The 2022 first-round pick is 24 years old and plays the outfield. His best tool is his power, which is graded as a 65. He's got a 60-grade for running, 50s for his arm and fielding and just a 35 for hitting. It all adds up to a 50-grade overall prospect.

In parts of five minor league seasons, Jones has a .270 average and .351 on-base percentage over 413 games. He has 436 hits to his name, including 83 home runs, 95 doubles and 11 triples. Jones also has 277 RBIs, 292 runs scored, 180 walks, 116 stolen bases and 600 strikeouts.

In 33 Triple-A games this season, Jones has a .258 average and .366 OBP. Jones has popped 11 homers and seven doubles among his 31 total hits, plus has 41 RBIs, 25 runs scored, 18 walks, seven stolen bases and 46 strikeouts.

Jones isn't being called up to sit the bench - the Yankees are going to play him regularly. With Dominguez out, there's playing time available. Jones could spell Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham or Cody Bellinger in the outfield, or start as the team's designated hitter.

I like adding him in most deeper leagues today. His long-term outlook is cloudy, especially once the Yanks get back Dominguez and Giancarlo Stanton. Jones is still one to watch because of his pedigree as a prospect and his power numbers. For now though, I only like adding him in deeper leagues and a few standard leagues - he'll work into more and more leagues with good numbers and consistent playing time.

Griffin Canning - San Diego Padres

Canning is sitting near 18% owned right now as he prepares for a start on Friday.

Canning will be making a start against the Cardinals on Friday night. That's an OK matchup on paper, but nothing too great. Canning is more on the rise for how he started his season.

In his first start of the year, he worked five innings and struck out seven batters along the way. Canning took a no decision against the White Sox, allowing a run on three hits and three walks. He left after only 73 pitches.

He has another solid matchup today, but it's not as great as his first one was. Canning is just a deep-league streaming asset in my eyes as a result. Look elsewhere for help in standard leagues.

Zack Gelof - Athletics

Gelof is only owned in about 1% of leagues, but he's starting to gain some fantasy attention and is worth going over here.

Gelof has played in 21 games and gotten 57 plate appearances so far. He has a .269 average and .309 on-base percentage, plus 10 RBIs, 11 runs scored, two stolen bases, three walks and 14 strikeouts. Gelof has 14 total hits, including three homers, two doubles and one triple.

Gelof has started and played full games of late for the most part, and he's delivered at the plate, collecting a hit in six straight. He's flashed some pop, and his overall production is up in that timeframe, so you can see why he's getting some fantasy attention now.

He's mostly played the outfield, but could be eligible at some infield spots too - the more spots he's eligible at in fantasy leagues, the better. Consider adding Gelof, but only in really deep fantasy leagues now. He's one to keep tabs on, as more good results could help him get rostered in most deeper leagues in time.

Trent Grisham - New York Yankees

Grisham is back on the rise as a fantasy asset after mostly falling down this season. He's sitting at 50% owned right now, after being around 40% back on April 26.

Grisham had a three-hit game on Thursday, and has now collected eight hits over seven contests this month. He has a homer, five doubles, eight runs scored, seven RBIs, a stolen base, three walks and three strikeouts in that span.

He started the season slowly, and sits with a low .182 average, but a .308 OBP. Grisham has 23 RBIs, 23 runs scored, two stolen bases, 23 walks and 24 strikeouts. He has 22 total hits, including six doubles, five homers and a triple.

Grisham is starting to come around with the bat. If he can raise his average some, he'd be a much better fantasy asset, and worthy of more ownership and usage. Right now, I only like trying him in deeper leagues, but if his bat stays hot, he can be added in standard leagues, after opening the year owned in most leagues.

Foster Griffin - Washington Nationals

Griffin is up to 60% owned as he prepares to make a start on Friday - that's his highest own percentage of the season.

He'll make a start against the Marlins on Friday night. That's a pretty good matchup on paper.

Griffin has a 2.27 ERA over 39 2/3 innings pitched in his seven starts so far this season, which is the biggest reason he's on the rise today. He's allowed 13 runs (just 10 earned) on 29 hits and 14 walks, while striking out 33 along the way.

The matchup is solid, and with how he's pitched to this point, Griffin is a pretty good streaming asset for the day. I like him in deeper leagues, and would be happy to try him in some standard leagues, although he's not a must-start streamer in those leagues.
