Is Grant Holmes or Jeffrey Springs the Best Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitcher Pickup on Friday?
Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.
After checking in on some fantasy baseball waiver wire hitting options, let's now go over some waiver wire pitchers.
We won't cover anyone who appeared in waiver stories on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, or who were in the Friday streaming article.
Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.
Should You Add Grant Holmes?
Holmes is up 4.52% and is now rostered in 51.2% of fantasy leagues.
Holmes has made 10 starts and 11 total appearances in 2025. He's got a 3-3 record and 3.68 earned run average over 58 2/3 innings. Holmes has allowed 24 runs on 42 hits and 26 walks, while striking out 55 batters.
He's been pretty good in his five May starts so far, allowing over two runs just once. In 30 2/3 innings this month, Holmes is 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA. He's given up 10 runs on 24 hits and nine walks, while striking out 29 batters.
Holmes will start on Friday against the Red Sox. Boston isn't the best fantasy matchup, but Holmes has pitched well enough to consider in even just average matchups.
I think Holmes is worth streaming in deeper redraft leagues today, and I also wouldn't mind giving him some standard league starts depending on who else was available and how your fantasy team is looking for the week. Holmes has pitched well this month, and it at least makes him an option for Friday's start.
He's got a tougher matchup against Arizona (most likely) for his next start, so utilize Holmes today instead.
Should You Add Ryan Gusto?
Gusto was added in 3.71% of leagues today, bringing his overall mark to 12.2%.
He made a start against the Rays on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings. Gusto struck out four batters and needed 83 pitches to get those 11 outs.
In his first big league season, Gusto has made seven starts across 13 games. He's 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA over 39 innings. Gusto has allowed 23 runs (20 earned) on 42 hits and 19 walks, while striking out 42 batters.
His start on Thursday wasn't great, despite an easier matchup, but he's on the rise for more favorable starts going forward. Gusto has probable outings against the Pirates and White Sox next.
Gusto will be a deep-league streaming option for both of those starts. I don't think he's done enough to be streamable in standard leagues for those outings, but some standard league owners might be willing to stream him in the super favorable tests.
He's a player who needs more consistent results on the mound before he'd be a serious standard league asset. Gusto can at least be a deep-league option when the matchups are right though.
Should You Add Jeffrey Springs?
Springs is up 3.18% today and now sits at 49.33% overall.
He's made 11 starts this season for the Athletics. Springs is 5-3 with a 3.97 ERA over 59 frames. He's allowed 33 runs (26 earned) on 49 hits and 23 walks, while punching out 47 batters.
Springs has had a pretty good May, but is coming off a start in which he allowed four runs (three earned) over six innings against the Phillies. He hadn't allowed over two runs in a start in any of his other four starts in May.
Springs will start against the Blue Jays on Friday. It's a pretty good matchup for Springs, and is one he hasn't had yet this season.
Springs has a pretty solid floor because he eats innings and usually limits runs. His strikeout work has been a bit better of late, but he's also walked at least two batters in three of his past four starts.
I like his matchup on Friday enough to consider streaming Springs in deeper leagues for sure. I'd be pretty confident utilizing him in deeper leagues actually.
He's also a streaming option in standard leagues. I would go over all the possible streaming options before turning to Springs in a standard league on Friday. He just hasn't been good enough this season, or consistent enough, to have full confidence in, despite a pretty good matchup on paper.
Springs could face the Twins after today's start. That's a bit tougher matchup, but not too tough, so Springs could be in the same boat for that outing.
Should You Add Kyle Harrison?
Harrison is owned in 10% of fantasy leagues right now.
He has appeared in five games so far this season, but has just one start under his belt. Harrison is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA over 9 1/3 innings. He's allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks so far, while striking out 11.
Harrison's start came in his last appearance, which was on May 24 against the Nationals. He worked four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks. He took the loss and struck out four batters along the way.
Harrison has a favorable matchup against the Marlins on Friday evening. The Marlins are a popular offense to attack with streaming pitchers, and that's exactly what's happening with Harrison here.
Harrison hasn't developed into the pitcher he was projected to be quite yet, but he's shown some progress in his start to this season. He's probably going to be a bit limited yet in terms of pitch counts as he ramps up, but the matchup is good enough.
I think the ceiling for Harrison tonight is pitching five innings - he could maybe reach six frames if he's getting early outs and limiting runs. For him to have a really good fantasy outing though, Harrison is going to need to limit runs and baserunners and finish with several strikeouts.
He's done good strikeout work so far and the matchup is good enough to test Harrison out in. I'd only want to stream Harrison in deeper redraft leagues today, but a positive start today could keep his own percentage moving up.
Harrison is lined up to possibly face the Padres after this start. That's not a matchup I'd be inclined to start him in (for any fantasy leagues), but maybe a great outing tonight could sway my opinion.
Should You Add Robert Garcia?
Garcia is rostered in 21% of fantasy leagues right now. He was sitting under 15% on May 26.
Garcia has earned a couple saves over the past week, which is why his fantasy own percentage is on the rise. Starting on May 14, Garcia has either worked the eighth or ninth innings in his appearances for the Rangers.
He's 0-1 with two saves, a blown save and a hold in seven appearances in that span. Garcia has allowed three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven batters.
Garcia allowed runs in three straight appearances, but earned a save in the final appearance in that stretch, and then got another save in his next appearance after that. Garcia worked the eighth inning on Wednesday - the game was tied at zero when he pitched.
We'll dive more into the Texas closer situation in the American League closer report, which will be coming out later on Friday. For now, I can say that Garcia is worth some adds in deeper redraft leagues.
I'm skeptical of adding Garcia in all deeper leagues, or any standard leagues, because he doesn't appear locked into the closer role yet. That could come in time, but for now, I'd only consider adding Garcia in deeper redraft leagues.
