Discussing some of the best hitting and pitching performances from April 11.

Just five MLB games were played on Thursday, April 11 after a couple of postponements.

Mets 16, Braves 4

New York accumulated 16 hits and walked four times to crush Atlanta on Thursday.

Tyrone Taylor crushed a pinch-hit grand slam for the Mets, while DJ Stewart hit a two-run homer. Jeff McNeil doubled among his two hits, drove in three runs, scored twice and also drew two walks.

Brandon Nimmo tripled and doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice for New York. Francisco Alvarez drove in two runs on two hits and scored twice. Harrison Bader collected two hits and scored three runs.

Pete Alonso and Starling Marte each got on base three times and scored a pair of runs for New York. Marte also stole a base.

Jose Quintana got the win after starting and pitching 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out four. Quintana is now 1-1 on the season and will carry a 3.45 earned run average into his next start.

Allan Winans was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out one batter.

Marcell Ozuna got on base three times for Atlanta. Adam Duvall had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Ozzie Albies finished with two knocks. Chadwick Tromp doubled among his two hits, drove in a pair and scored once.

Royals 13, Astros 3

Kansas City scored nine runs in the first inning and rolled to a win over Houston. KC is now 9-4, while Houston is 4-10.

Bobby Witt Jr. homered twice among his four hits, drove in five runs and scored four times for Kansas City. He also stole a base. Witt has a .358 average and .414 on-base percentage so far.

Vinnie Pasquantino stayed hot with three hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Maikel Garcia had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kyle Isbel recorded two hits and scored once.

Nick Loftin got on base twice and drove in two runs for the Royals. MJ Melendez got on base twice and scored a run.

Brady Singer improved to 2-0 after allowing just one run across five innings. He surrendered five hits and two walks, while striking out four. Singer has a 0.98 ERA so far.

Hunter Brown fell to 0-2 after allowing nine runs on 11 hits and a walk over 2/3 of an inning. His ERA is 16.43 so far.

Yainer Diaz hit a solo home run among his two hits for Houston. Jose Altuve doubled among his three hits and also drew a walk, while Mauricio Dubon had two hits and an RBI. Jon Singleton drew two walks.

Athletics 1, Rangers 0

Oakland edged Texas to take two games in a three-game series.

Seth Brown doubled and homered for Oakland. The Athletics finished with just four hits and two walks.

JP Sears earned the win on the hill after allowing just one hit and three walks across 6 1/3 innings. Sears struck out five while picking up his first win of the season. He lowered his ERA to 5.17.

Mason Miller finished off the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his second save. He struck out two batters.

Jon Gray was dealt the tough loss on the mound despite striking out nine over five innings. He allowed three hits and a walk total.

Adolis Garcia had the only Texas hit. Jonah Heim was hit by a pitch and drew a walk.

Phillies 5, Pirates 1

A four-run seventh inning helped Philadelphia prevail over Pittsburgh.

Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh and Bryson Stott all hit home runs to power the Phillies’ offense. Stott and Marsh hit two-run shots. Bohm led the team with two hits.

Ranger Suarez improved to 2-0 after allowing just two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. Suarez struck out eight and will carry a 2.65 ERA into his next start.

Jared Jones fell to 1-2 after allowing three runs on six hits. Jones struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings.

Edward Olivares had two hits and scored the lone Pittsburgh run. Ke'Bryan Hayes drew two walks.

Orioles 9, Red Sox 4 (10 inn.)

Baltimore scored six runs in the top of the 10th inning to take down Boston.

Colton Cowser stayed hot with two home runs and a double. He drove in four runs and scored twice. Cowser has a .458 average so far.

Anthony Santander and Gunnar Henderson each hit two-run homers for the Orioles. Jackson Holliday scored two runs despite going without a hit or walk. 

Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins got on base three times, drove in a run and scored once, while Jordan Westburg drew two walks. Ryan O'Hearn and Ryan Mountcastle got on base twice and scored a run each.

Craig Kimbrel earned the win out of the pen to move to 2-0 on the season. Grayson Rodriguez started and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings, while striking out five.

Garrett Whitlock started for Boston, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four. Greg Weissert was tagged with a blown save, and Isaiah Campbell took the loss after pitching the 10th.

Jarren Duran doubled twice, drove in a run and scored once for Boston. Wilyer Abreu drove in a run on two hits, while Connor Wong hit a pinch-hit home run.
