NFL Transactions Update: Daniel Jones Locked In, Aaron Jones Back in Minnesota
Breaking down the latest NFL transactions, including Daniel Jones’ contract, Aaron Jones’ return to Minnesota and Chig Okonkwo joining the Commanders.
The NFL new league year has officially started, so it's a perfect time to go over a handful of other deals that we haven't discussed yet.
Here are a pair of stories from today (first one and second one). The first story links to Tuesday's story, which then links back to Monday articles.

Quarterback Transactions
There's been some notable moves this week, and a few more have happened today.
Indianapolis locked in Daniel Jones, after originally giving him the transition tag. Jones is now locked into a two-year deal worth $88 million.
He now has a little long-term assurance, which is nice since he's coming off a big injury. Jones is expected to be ready for the 2026 regular season, and he should be a good fantasy asset again, despite the Colts' offense being reconfigured a bit.
Jones probably won't be a high-end fantasy pick, especially coming off the injury. If he picks up where he left off though, he will be a good weekly fantasy option, and possible draft steal or waiver wire darling.
The other notable quarterback moves were Kirk Cousins and Kyler Murray officially being released. We knew about each release weeks ago, but those became official today.
Most teams have their quarterbacks for 2026 already, while the Raiders don't yet, but are going to be picking Fernando Mendoza, so they are set too.
Looking at current depth charts, the teams who could use quarterback help are the Steelers, Raiders and Vikings. Arizona and Cleveland are teams with quarterbacks in place, but it wouldn't surprise me to see guys like Murray and Cousins sign there either.
Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco are a couple other veteran quarterbacks who could be options for some of those open-QB teams.
Jones Returns to Minnesota
Aaron Jones Sr. was expected to be released from Minnesota, but he restructured his 2026 contract and will now be part of the Vikings' backfield.
Jordan Mason and Xavier Scott are other options right now. After missing out on the free agent backs, it doesn't surprise me to see Jones back in the mix.
I'd be surprised if Minnesota doesn't add more talent to the RB room this offseason. Whether that be through free agency, or in the NFL draft, I'd expect Minnesota to add another back or two.
For now though, Jones is the top back for Minnesota, with Mason likely to get most of the backup work. We'll see if that changes with any other RB additions this offseason.
Wide Receiver Signings
There hasn't been a ton of notable wide receiver signings of late, but there's a few things worth noting.
John Metchie signed a one-year deal with Carolina. The Panthers have Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, but only McMillan is locked into a role long term. Metchie could carve out a role in time, or with an injury to one of the top-three wideouts.
David Moore also signed a one-year deal with the Panthers. He's just a depth option, especially with the signing of Metchie.
The Packers added wideout Skyy Moore. Green Bay lost Romeo Doubs in free agency, but still have Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and Savion Williams. Moore is a depth wide receiver option, but could return kicks, so in fantasy leagues where returns are rewarded, Moore has some deep, deep league appeal.
Kalif Raymond swapped NFC North teams, joining the Bears after being with the Lions in the past. Raymond could be WR3 behind Rome Odunze and Luther Burden, so there's a potential for some fantasy value there.
Detroit might miss Raymond, but this move opens things for Isaac TeSlaa. Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown are the top-two wideouts there.
Okonkwo Signs with New Team
Chig Okonkwo signed a three-year deal with Washington. It's worth up to $30 million.
Zach Ertz was a free agent, so Okonkwo effectively replaces him. That likely means we never get that Ben Sinnott breakout season.
Okonkwo could be a decent fantasy asset, as Washington has Terry McLaurin and Luke McCaffrey as its top wideouts right now.
Okonkwo will likely start as a deep-league fantasy asset, but could play his way into standard leagues. This could be a sneaky-good signing for the Commanders down the road.
Tonges Re-Signs in San Fran
Jake Tonges has re-upped with the Niners. The two-year deal is worth $8 million.
It's a notable move as George Kittle is coming off a major injury, and could miss a lot of the upcoming season, if not all of it.
Tonges was a good fantasy asset with Kittle banged up this last year, and maybe Tonges could deliver again with a bigger role for a large portion of the 2026 season.
San Fran now has Mike Evans at wideout, joining Ricky Pearsall and other unproven guys. If the Niners don't add any other notable pass catchers, Tonges could really shine.
He's a sneaky-good fantasy asset right now, but I bet his hype will take off as the 2026 season approaches.
Defensive Moves
Let's run through some defensive moves before wrapping up this article.
Bradley Chubb signed a three-year deal worth $43.5 million deal with the Bills. He adds a pass rusher to the team, which is needed with a couple pass rushers in free agency. Chubb should have a chance to put up decent numbers, so he'll be a decent fantasy IDP.
Cornerback Darrell Baker is signing a deal with the Dolphins. He has 25 starts over the past three years, which spans 48 games. Baker is a depth corner and helps out a defense that's lost a lot of talent this offseason.
The Patriots added Kevin Byard, a safety, on a one-year deal worth $9 million. He'll help the team's secondary, and adds to a defense that was already really strong in 2025.
New England released outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings, which opened $4 million in cap space.
Minnesota let go of defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, Harrison Smith and Jonathan Allen, opening some needed cap space in Minnesota. Now we could see the Vikings go after some free agents.
Hargrave was quickly scooped up by the Packers, signing a two-year deal worth $23 million. He gives the Packers some beef on the defensive line, and boosts the defense a bit overall. It's a nice low-key deal that could pay off big in the long run.
