Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings for Week 9: Caleb Williams, Sam Darnold, Matthew Stafford and More
Morgan gives his week 9 fantasy football rankings for quarterbacks.
A new week of fantasy football is nearly here, so it's time to start putting together some positional rankings.
We'll start with the quarterback position in this article. Check back for rankings for running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.

It's a tough call at the top of things this week, so I decided to roll with the guy who leads the position so far.
Mahomes has been great so far this season, and even in a tough matchup against the Bills, I like him enough to take him first again.
Jackson should return to the field for a Thursday night clash with the Dolphins, which is a favorable matchup.
Had Jackson not missed several games in a row, he'd probably be sitting in that top spot for me this week. He very well could finish there though.
3. Josh Allen
Allen is the other half of that stellar matchup between the Bills and Chiefs.
His matchup against KC is very tough as well, but like Mahomes, I expect Allen to be great still.
4. Daniel Jones
Jones continues to deliver, and until that stops, he's going to keep ranking pretty highly for me.
He has a favorable test against the Steelers this coming week, so you should be expecting big things out of Jones and the Colts' offense again.
5. Drake Maye
Maye has been one of the bigger fantasy surprises at QB this season, and it's hard to bet against him.
He has a tougher test against the Falcons, but after Atlanta allowed the Dolphins to throw for nearly 200 yards and four scores last week, I'm not as worried about the matchup, especially with a much better quarterback here in Maye.
Herbert has the Titans in week 9 - Tennessee is a slightly below-average matchup on paper.
Herbert has too many pass catchers on offense to ever be too worried about him. I expect the QB to deliver a pretty strong fantasy score this week.
Daniels's injury status is one to watch this week, but I expect him back for a battle against the Seahawks.
Seattle is a slightly below-average test, but I'm not putting the dual-threat star any lower - I could actually see Daniels delivering his best fantasy showing in this one.
8. Dak Prescott
Prescott took a step back last week, but he's back in my top 10 going into a test against the Cardinals.
Arizona is another below-average matchup for a QB, but I like Prescott and the Dallas offense to get back on track, leading to a nice fantasy showing for Prescott.
I'm high on Stafford heading into his game against the Saints.
That's a pretty average matchup, and in a favorable setup, I like Stafford to rack up plenty of fantasy points in this one.
10. Bo Nix
Nix gets the last spot in the top 10 despite having a very tough matchup against the Texans coming.
It's actually the toughest matchup on paper for a fantasy quarterback, but with how Nix has performed of late, I just couldn't put him outside my top 10.
11. Jordan Love
Love was stellar in week 8, and I want to see if he can keep things rolling this week.
I have him just outside my top 10 as he prepares for the Panthers, who are another slightly below-average matchup.
12. Kyler Murray
Murray is expected to return from an injury, and he gets a very favorable matchup against the Cowboys.
In fact, that's the most favorable fantasy matchup a QB could have, and it's by a good margin too. Don't be afraid to roll with Murray if he's cleared to play this week.
13. Brock Purdy or Mac Jones
I expect Purdy to play this week, but I'd rank Jones here if he makes another start.
The matchup against the Giants is stellar, which is why I'm high on both quarterbacks. I'd feel better if Purdy started, but Jones is certainly capable of finishing this high too.
14. Sam Darnold
I'm high on Darnold, as he has a good matchup coming against the Commanders.
Darnold has been undervalued most of the season, and is pretty widely available, so if you are scrambling for a starting QB, I'd suggest looking into Darnold.
15. Jared Goff
Goff gets back in on the action with a pretty average ranking this week.
He gets the Vikings in week 9. Minnesota is a slightly below-average matchup, but I like Goff to deliver an average-or-better mark.
16. Jaxson Dart
Dart might take on more after the injury to Cam Skattebo, so his fantasy outlook is looking up.
In a pretty average matchup against the Niners, I expect average results from Dart. I ranked him a bit lower than most because of the lack of playmakers around him.
17. Caleb Williams
Williams has a good matchup coming against the Bengals, but he hasn't been consistent enough to rank higher for me.
I like him better in deeper leagues this week, and probably for the rest of the season.
18. Joe Flacco
The other half of that matchup is Flacco, who is banged up coming into the week.
That's why he ranks a bit lower going into a pretty favorable test against the Bears.
19. Aaron Rodgers
Rodgers has been a decent fantasy asset over the past several weeks, but I'm a bit down on him going into week 9.
He has an average test against the Colts. I think Indy will create a couple takeaways and hurt Rodgers' fantasy score that way.
20. Trevor Lawrence
Lawrence has another average test this week, as he gets the Raiders.
Lawrence has been underwhelming most weeks, so it shouldn't surprise you to see him in the bottom half of the rankings, even with four teams on byes.
21. Tua Tagovailoa
I really wanted to take Tagovailoa higher, but I just couldn't get myself to do it.
Coming off a good game and having a great matchup coming against the Ravens, he's certainly capable of finishing way higher than this ranking in week 9. This is where I feel most comfortable putting him.
22. C.J. Stroud
Stroud has been a bit improved as a fantasy asset of late, but a very tough test against the Broncos has me down on him.
I wouldn't consider him in standard leagues, and honestly would try to find another option in deeper leagues too. Only utilize him if your other options rank below him.
23. Michael Penix
Penix missed last week, so his status will be one to watch going into week 9.
He has a below-average matchup against the Patriots, so this is where I felt safest placing Penix.
If Kirk Cousins were to make another start, he'd also rank here.
24. Geno Smith
This is probably about as high as you'll see me rank Smith from here on out.
A great matchup against the Jaguars is why he gets the nod over a few other guys. I still would try to avoid him.
25. J.J. McCarthy
McCarthy is expected to return this week, which is good because Carson Wentz is now out for the season.
I'm not a big fan of McCarthy to begin with, and even an above-average matchup against the Lions won't sway my opinion on him. Let's see if he can change my mind for the games to come.
26. Bryce Young or Andy Dalton
I expect Young to play in week 9, but Dalton would also rank here if he ends up starting again.
Like the situation with McCarthy, I'm not high on Young or Dalton even in a pretty solid matchup against the Packers.
27. Cameron Ward
Ward hasn't been able to get things going yet, so this is where he lands.
A tough test against the Chargers only complicates matters.
28. Tyler Shough
Shough will start for the Saints, replacing Spencer Rattler.
The Rams are a tougher test on paper, and I think the rookie is going to struggle in his first regular season start.
Final Notes
If Marcus Mariota starts for Daniels, I'd rank him between Smith and McCarthy.
If Jacoby Brissett starts for Murray again, I'd put him between Tagovailoa and Stroud.
If Flacco misses the game and Jake Browning starts, Browning would only rank ahead of Ward and Shough.
If McCarthy is out again and Max Brosmer starts, then Brosmer would rank after everyone else.
If Tyler Huntley were to start for the Ravens, I'd rank him after Smith - Huntley would be ahead of Mariota (if he starts).
