Should You Add Oronde Gadsden?
Gadsden might be one of the bigger waiver wire adds of week 8 after he went for 164 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions and nine targets on Sunday.
It came in a Chargers' loss, but the rookie tight end definitely turned heads. He's the newest name in a loaded Charger pass-catching group.
With all those other pass catchers around him, it definitely clouds Gadsden's long-term outlook. I don't know how you couldn't want to give him a chance after his week 7 performance though, especially since he plays at a very weak and unpredictable fantasy spot.
I'm at least adding Gadsden in all deeper leagues, and with six teams on bye in week 8, I'd be willing to add him in some standard leagues too.
He'll be part of the Thursday night game, taking on the Vikings. Minnesota is a bit tougher matchup on paper, but nothing too crazy.
Gadsden will rank probably somewhere in the middle of my week 8 TE PPR rankings - check back later this week for that.
Should You Add Pat Freiermuth?
Freiermuth starred on Thursday night, despite the Steelers losing to the Bengals. He had 111 yards and two touchdowns across five catches and six targets.
He hadn't done much prior to that, but again, it's hard to overlook him after a showing like that. Really, Pittsburgh has a need for more pass catchers to step up, and it could be Freiermuth who steps up.
The tight end will take on the Packers in week 8. Green Bay has really struggled to slow opposing tight ends, so in a week with so many byes, Freiermuth will probably be added and tried in all league types. I like him better as a deep-league asset, but wouldn't blame you for sticking him in a standard league starting lineup.
Should You Add Daniel Bellinger or Theo Johnson?
The two Giants' tight ends delivered big, despite the team blowing a big lead to the Broncos.
Bellinger had 88 yards and a score on three catches and four targets. Johnson had 66 yards and a touchdown on three grabs and seven targets.
Unfortunately, I don't think those stats are sustainable, even on a Giants' offense needing playmakers to step up. They have a terrible week 8 matchup against the Eagles too, so neither will be great starting options.
Bellinger wasn't targeted in the team's win over Philly a couple weeks ago. Johnson had 27 yards on two receptions and four targets.
While I don't love either Giants' tight end as a pickup for week 8, both could be decent deep-league options here and there the rest of the season, so don't write them off for good. They could each be added in deeper leagues to see if either continually factors in for the team's offense.
I like Johnson over Bellinger, by a healthy margin too.
Should You Add Noah Fant?
Fant was another tight end who excelled on Thursday night. He went for 44 yards and a score on four catches and targets.
Everyone wants to talk about Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but after those two, there's room for another pass catcher to step up. Maybe Joe Flacco was a big boost for Fant's fantasy outlook.
Fant has a stellar schedule ahead, so I'd be all for adding him before week 8, even if you don't need him to start right away.
The Jets are who Fant will face in week 8, and they are another favorable fantasy matchup for a tight end. There's a chance Fant could keep delivering and start really emerging as a weekly fantasy asset.
Add him and start him in some deeper leagues, and maybe even consider him in standard leagues depending on your other options. Fant could be a sneaky-good fantasy asset from here on out.
Should You Add Kyle Pitts Sr.?
Pitts looked pretty good on Sunday night, catching seven of his 10 targets for 62 yards. Go figure, the Atlanta offense struggled as a whole.
Pitts continues to be all over the place as a fantasy asset. There's room for him to deliver consistently, but fantasy owners need more evidence, and consistent evidence at that.
Miami is another pretty favorable fantasy matchup for tight ends, so Pitts has the chance to deliver again in week 8. He's owned in most leagues, and the favorable matchup coming off a solid showing could get him near 100% owned.
At the very least, I'm starting him in all deeper leagues. You might not trust him in standard leagues, but he's worth tracking for the next couple weeks at least.
It could also be a good time to sell high on him, especially if you are sick of his back and forth showings.
Should You Add Juwan Johnson?
Johnson was good again in week 7, catching five of his seven targets for 79 yards.
He's fallen back the past couple weeks after a really strong start to the season. This showing was meaningful, as it came with Taysom Hill around. With Kendre Miller out for the season, Hill might be used more as a running back, which could open more for Johnson at tight end.
Anyways, I'm ready to give Johnson another crack at things in fantasy leagues. He too has stellar fantasy matchups ahead.
He has an above-average matchup against the Buccaneers in week 8, so there's a chance he delivers again as soon as this coming week. Give him a re-add in deeper leagues, and maybe even standard leagues.
Should You Add Zach Ertz?
Ertz delivered 37 yards and a score on three catches and seven targets. The overall production wasn't great, but his score and targets were notable.
However, things could worsen over time, as Deebo Samuel Sr. and Terry McLaurin were both out in week 7. There's still room for Ertz to deliver weekly, but it might take a score for him to post a notable fantasy score.
Washington has Kansas City on Monday night in week 8. That's not a good matchup for Ertz, so even on a week with six teams on bye, he's likely to be a middle-of-the-pack option.
We'll see if he can exceed expectations in this one, especially if Samuel and McLaurin are out again.
Should You Add Mason Taylor?
Taylor bounced back a bit in week 7, but still only had 31 yards on three catches and five targets.
It's hard to like any Jets' offensive players at this point, but he makes this article because of a stellar matchup. The Bengals allow the most fantasy points to tight ends, so it's a chance for the rookie to deliver.
He's at least worth some deep-league starts in week 8, and could be a standard league asset in a pinch.
Should You Add Dalton Kincaid?
Kincaid was on a bye in week 7, but was injured in the week before that, so he hasn't played since October 5. His own percentage is down a bit as a result.
He has averaged 57.4 yards per game and has scored three TDs across five games, so there's no reason for him to be unowned in any leagues. Kincaid being on the Bills' offense is another reason for fantasy owners to roster him.
Kincaid has a stellar matchup against the Panthers in week 8, so it's a chance for him to shine in his return to the field. His status will be one to watch throughout the week, but I like his outlook for week 8, and beyond.
Should You Add Chig Okonkwo?
Okonkwo played in week 7, but didn't record a catch across two targets. You can probably guess that I'm listing him because of a good matchup.
He has a very favorable test against the Colts in week 8. Okonkwo had 66 yards on five receptions and six targets in the team's last matchup in late September.
I know it's hard to overlook a player's most recent showing, but the matchup is right, and he's already delivered in this matchup this season. He's going to fly under the radar as a result.
I'd be happy to add and utilize him in deeper leagues this week, and if the options are thin, trying him in a standard league could work in your favor too.
Don't overlook Okonkwo just because of a no-show in week 7.
