Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings for Week 5: Where are Dak Prescott, Jaxson Dart and Baker Mayfield this Week?
Morgan gives his week 5 fantasy football rankings for quarterbacks.
After ranking my top fantasy football running backs, wide receivers and tight ends for week 5 yesterday, let's cap things by checking out quarterbacks today.
Check back later in the week for more start/sit content!
Check out week 5 fantasy football projections for quarterbacks on FantasySP as well.
1. Josh Allen
I'm going to stick with Allen at the No. 1 spot until he gives me a reason not to take him there.
He's the top fantasy QB so far and should be trusted regardless of the matchup. Allen has an average test against the Patriots in week 5.
If Daniels is back out there in week 5, I expect him to have a good fantasy showing against the Chargers.
It's a pretty average matchup on paper.
The other half of that matchup is Herbert, who I have third this week.
The Commanders are an above-average matchup for fantasy QBs, and I see Herbert rolling again and delivering a big fantasy score.
Mahomes got rolling in week 4, and I expect him to be good again in week 5 against the Jaguars.
It's a below-average matchup, but with Xavier Worthy back, I see Mahomes as a better fantasy option again, as he showed last week.
5. Jalen Hurts
Hurts has been a top-end fantasy QB, but it hasn't looked very pretty, or consistent.
He has a tough test against the Broncos in week 5, so he ranks a little lower on my list than usual.
I'm going to be all over the fantasy QB who faces the Cowboys every week. This week, Fields gets that honor.
Fields is a dual-threat option, so he's always a good fantasy asset. In this matchup, I expect Fields to deliver a really good fantasy score.
7. Drake Maye
I'm high on Maye again this week as he gets ready for the Bills.
The game flow should favor lots of passes, and with how he's looked so far, I trust Maye to put up good numbers overall.
8. Daniel Jones
Jones had a down showing in week 4, but I expect him to bounce back in week 5.
He has an average matchup against the Raiders that I think he'll thrive in.
9. Jared Goff
Goff has looked pretty good since week 1, and now gets the Bengals in week 5.
That's an above-average matchup, and as long as the game doesn't get out of hand early, Goff should deliver a good fantasy total.
10. Baker Mayfield
Mayfield is the No. 7 fantasy QB so far, so he's trustworthy even in tougher matchups.
He has a tough test against the Seahawks, and is dealing with injuries, so he ranks just a touch lower than he normally would.
11. Dak Prescott
Prescott made believers out of many fantasy owners a week ago.
He delivered in a tough matchup, and now has a favorable test against the Jets, so I see Prescott coming through for fantasy owners again.
12. Matthew Stafford
Stafford is QB12 so far, and that's where I have him ranked for week 5.
He has the Niners on Thursday night. It's a tougher matchup on paper, but Stafford has delivered in tough tests already this season, so this ranking might even be a bit too low.
13. Kyler Murray
I'm not a big fan of Murray as a fantasy asset this year so far, but his dual-threat ability is still appealing.
He has the Titans in week 5, which is a below-average matchup, but nothing too tough. Murray should put up at least average numbers this week.
14. Jaxson Dart
Dart was solid in his first start, and offers some more dual-threat upside.
He has a great matchup against the Saints in week 5. That's a top-five matchup, and maybe the rookie QB delivers his first big fantasy showing this week.
15. Geno Smith
I'm ranking Smith pretty high still, which is kind of concerning based on some of his bad outings.
He has a slightly above-average test against the Colts this week, so it's fair to rank him near the middle of the available QBs this week.
16. Bo Nix
Nix was pretty good in week 4, and now has the Eagles in week 5.
Philly is a pretty average matchup, so I expect Nix to deliver average results. He'd rank higher if he'd have more consistent results so far.
17. C.J. Stroud
Stroud has looked better of late, but still isn't near his rookie season level of play.
He has a great matchup against the Ravens in week 4, and without Lamar Jackson leading Baltimore, this sets up well for Stroud.
18. Sam Darnold
Darnold has quietly had a pretty solid fantasy season.
He has the Buccaneers in week 5, which is another above-average matchup for a quarterback. In a week where byes kick in, and injuries are mounting at QB, Darnold is a pretty solid starting option, especially in deeper setups.
19. Bryce Young
Young has one good fantasy showing and then three below-average showings.
I like him a bit more this week in a great matchup against the Dolphins. Miami has been the second most favorable fantasy matchup for quarterbacks so far.
20. Tua Tagovailoa
Tagovailoa looked pretty solid in week 4, but didn't exactly stand out either.
He has a really tough test against the Panthers, and without Tyreek Hill now, Tagovailoa isn't the best fantasy option. He's still a decent option in deeper leagues, especially because of the QBs who are out because of their byes or injuries.
21. Trevor Lawrence
Lawrence has really struggled over the past two weeks and now has a tough test coming against the Chiefs.
Lawrence really has just one good fantasy showing this season, so this ranking is more than justified.
22. Carson Wentz
It looks like Wentz will make at least one more start for the Vikings, so he ranks 22nd going into a clash with the Browns.
It's a below-average matchup on paper, but also not too far outside being an average test. With the playmakers Minnesota has, I trust Wentz more than anyone else left.
23. Cameron Ward
Ward has been a below-average fantasy QB so far, but I like his matchup best of anyone left.
He has the Cardinals in week 5. Arizona has been a pretty average matchup, so maybe the rookie can deliver his first average fantasy score of his NFL career.
24. Spencer Rattler
Rattler has actually not been as bad a starting option as he might seem if you've been following my rankings all year. I decided to finally bump him up, although an above-average matchup against the Giants helps his cause.
He's been in double digits every game, but over 15 points just once. That's why I don't have him any higher than this.
25. Mac Jones
Jones will make another start for Brock Purdy on Thursday night against the Rams.
It's a tough matchup, and with Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall also out, I don't like the idea of starting Jones this week.
26. Jake Browning
Browning has not looked good in his couple starts, so I'm not ranking him any higher despite having an average matchup against the Lions.
I need to see something from Browning before putting him any higher.
27. Dillon Gabriel
Gabriel will make his first start for the Browns, replacing Joe Flacco.
He's got a very tough matchup against the Vikings, so I'm not very high on the rookie this week. We'll see how he fares, and sets himself up going forward.
28. Cooper Rush
Rush has an even tougher test against the Texans, so that's why he ranks last for me in week 5.
Rush is replacing Jackson, who looks like a longshot to play this week, and maybe the next few weeks.
Final Notes
If Mayfield were to miss the game with his knee and bicep injuries, then Teddy Bridgewater would start in his place. I'd rank Bridgewater between Jones and Browning.
If Daniels misses another game, then I'd sandwich Marcus Mariota between Darnold and Young.
If Jackson ends up playing, he'd go ahead of Herbert, and after Daniels (if he plays).
If McCarthy were to start over Wentz, I'd keep him between Ward and Lawrence.
