New York Giants Fantasy Outlook: Is Daniel Jones a Reliable Option with Saquon Barkley Back? (Fantasy Football)
As the season grows near it's time to start looking at each and every team in the league to find all the fantasy value you miss when looking at the league as a whole. We will be taking a look at all the key teams and players around the league. Now we continue with the NFC East with the New York Giants.
Is Daniel Jones Any Good?
The truth is we don't know for sure. What we do know is he made a big jump last season and has a ton of upside because of his ability to run. We also know that Josh Allen wasn't any better than Jones before Brian Daboll, the now head coach of the New York Giants, got a hold of him. This of course doesn't guarantee Jones is going to suddenly be a high-end fantasy QB, but it is something to keep in mind and an interesting parallel. Jones currently sits as the QB14 based on ADP and we wouldn't be shocked at all if he were to outperform expectations.
Running Back Saquon Barkley is an Elite RB1
Saquon Barkley just signed an extension and is reporting to camp. This erases just about all the concerns we had. He is being drafted as the RB4 and this is more than fair. There isn't much else to say other than he is an elite RB1 and you can draft him as high as the RB1 and no later than the RB6. If anyone was considering drafting Matt Breida for insurance in case of a holdout or in bestball, he is no longer worth consideration as anything more than a mediocre handcuff.
Crowded Fantasy Receivers but Who Stands Out?
I recently asked a friend, a Giants fan, what the hell the Giants were doing when they signed Cole Beasley. He joked, "When a team needs a slot receiver they will call us begging." This couldn't be more true because we've never seen a team loaded with more slot guys. They have Isaiah Hodgins who is a true outside guy who becomes very interesting. Then they have Parris Cambell, Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, Sterling Shepard, Wan'Dale Robinson, Jamison Crowder, and Beasley who are all prototypical slot guys. It's really tough to decipher how this group will plan out. This is how we view each guy and rank them:
Parris Campbell - We've seen him have more success than anyone else on this roster. He's been sneaky good for Indy the past few seasons despite a nightmarish quarterback situation. He'd be our top guy.
Jalin Hyatt - This kid can absolutely fly. The rookie has the upside to be a big play guy similar to what we saw from guys like Will Fuller in Houston. There is a chance he's a star in this league.
Isiah Hodgins - He's not their third-best player, but he fills a role no other wideout that is close to the top of the depth chart can fill. His TD numbers could surprise some people this year.
The Rest - The rest we are ranking Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, Jamison Crowder, and Cole Beasley in that order.
The Big Acquisition at TE Darren Waller
The Giants' big move on offense this offseason was adding Darren Waller. It's not clear exactly how much he has left in the tank, but he still should be very solid. However, he hasn't been anything special since 2020 and is now about to turn 31. On the other hand, this offense does like to utilize the TE near the red zone as we saw last year and with Dawson Knox in Buffalo. His current ADP has him as the TE6 and going at pick 68 which is way too high for us though. We would much rather have a guy like Evan Engram more than two rounds later. Pat Freiermuth and David Njoku are also going not long after Engram.
New York Giants Breakout Player
We have to go with Hyatt here. He's the only guy in this offense with the upside to emerge into a star who isn't named Saquon Barkley. He's far from a safe pick, but his elite speed can't just be ignored. Despite him slipping in the draft many people had him being projected as a first-round pick this Spring.
New York Giants Sleeper
Tight end Daniel Bellinger is a guy who could still have a role in this offense near the end zone despite the acquisition of Waller. If Waller were to get injured, which he often does missing 14 games over the past two seasons, Bellinger could emerge as a solid streaming option. He flashed a lot of promise last year and could become a real weapon for Jones and this offense.
