Fantasy Baseball Injury Update: The Latest on Caminero, Ohtani, Acuna, Misiorowski and More
Get caught up on the latest injury news for several key fantasy baseball stars before the All-Star break ends.
There's been a bevy of injuries around the MLB this season. Now that we have a break in the action, let's provide some updates on several notable fantasy players.
We have several players to discuss, so let's get right to it.
Fantasy baseball injury news can be found all season on FantasySP.
Junior Caminero - Tampa Bay Rays
Caminero went into the All-Star break healthy, but was drilled with a pitch in the All-Star Game. He left immediately and the worst was feared.
X-rays came back negative on his left hand and he is considered day-to-day, although he expects to play on Friday, when the Rays have a doubleheader against the Red Sox.
It's something to keep an eye on, but it appears that Caminero will be OK.
Milwaukee Brewers' Pitching Duo
Jacob Misiorowski is one of two Brewers' pitchers dealing with something right now. He missed his last start before the break with right arm fatigue.
He doesn't expect to miss another start, so he should be back within the first five games after the break. It's something to keep in mind with Misiorowski going forward though, as it could lead to more rest between starts, or an IL stint eventually.
Kyle Harrison was placed on the 15-day injured list with left forearm tightness right before the break. It's not considered serious, and he's not expected to miss much more than the 15 days.
He's been a good fantasy asset this season, so hopefully this doesn't impact him too much the rest of the way.
Shohei Ohtani - Los Angeles Dodgers
Ohtani didn't make his last pitching start in the first half because of left knee inflammation. It forced him to miss the All-Star game and festivities.
It's not considered very serious at this point, but an ongoing injury is at least a bit concerning for the two-way star. If you have him as a pitcher, be watching his status closely.
It could also impact him as a hitter. If you have doubts about Ohtani going forward, trading him away could be a viable option right now, as crazy as that sounds.
Ronald Acuna Jr. - Atlanta Braves
Acuna is working his way back from a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. He started rehabbing with the FCL Braves on July 13.
Acuna last played on June 9, so the sooner he can return, the better. He had big expectations coming into the season, so hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the way.
Acuna has underwhelmed this season when healthy, and the Braves could use him, so let's see if the outfielder can deliver.
New York Yankees' Pitcher Updates
Max Fried and Carlos Rodon are two pitchers on the mend for the Yankees.
Fried has been out several weeks with a left elbow bone bruise. He's expected to make a rehab start on July 17. We'll see how long it takes him to ramp up, but he should be back relatively soon, so be ready to activate him.
Rodon has only been out a short time with left elbow inflammation. He is set to throw every day this week, so he too is ramping up. Rodon is not the fantasy pitcher that Fried is, but he can be a legit fantasy asset and is worth tracking.
Seattle Mariners' Players
Julio Rodriguez is on the injured list with a concussion, but he's expected back right away after the break. Be ready to activate and utilize him again. Hopefully he can improve his production, as he's underwhelmed so far this year.
Brendan Donovan has been on the injured list with a left groin strain, but is ramping up and starting a rehab assignment. That means he should be back shortly. Donovan is a solid fantasy asset, so it's worth adding him back in some leagues, and watching him closely in others.
Nick Kurtz - Athletics
Kurtz is on the 10-day IL with right thumb capsule strain. It kept him out of the All-Star Game.
Hopefully he won't miss too much time, as he's been a high-end fantasy asset this season. Be watching his status and be ready to activate and utilize him when he's back on the field.
Cincinnati Reds' Pitcher Updates
Chase Burns and Nick Lodolo are two Reds' pitchers who are banged up right now.
Burns missed the All-Star Game with tightness in his right groin. He's not on the IL, but it's something to monitor as play ramps back up.
Lodolo is on the 15-day IL with a left index finger blister. Hopefully he doesn't miss much more time than that, as he's only made 12 starts this season so far.
Jacob deGrom - Texas Rangers
deGrom missed his final start before the break with a mild left glute strain. It could require him to hit the injured list eventually.
This is something to monitor, especially given his injury history. I'm in favor of parting ways with deGrom, as he's just not worth the headache with all his injury issues.
