5 Fantasy Baseball Players to Consider Dropping Right Now
Find out which struggling or injured fantasy players can be safely cut and which ones deserve a longer leash in standard and deeper leagues.
It's time to discuss some fantasy baseball drop candidates.
Here is the first drop story we did this week.
More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Konnor Griffin - Pittsburgh Pirates
Griffin is down to 80% rostered right now, and that will continue to plummet after he hit the injured list.
Griffin has a finger injury that will cost him the next 8-10 weeks at least. He will be out at least six weeks before he can even do any rehab assignments. That puts Griffin out through at least August, and he could miss a healthy chunk of September too.
That makes Griffin droppable now in most redraft leagues. He's holdable if you have IR spots to stash him in, but don't be afraid to drop Griffin down the line if you need that IR spot, as he might not make it back unless your fantasy team advances deep into the playoffs.
Of course, Griffin should be held on to in all dynasty/keeper leagues. The former top pick has a super high ceiling, and this injury hopefully won't affect him past this season.
Over 59 games and 247 plate appearances this season, Griffin had a .276 average and .332 on-base percentage. He had 62 total hits, including 10 doubles, five home runs and two triples. Griffin also had 25 RBIs, 35 runs scored, 20 stolen bases, 16 walks and 65 strikeouts.
Be looking to add him late in the season, if your team is still alive, but right now, it's better to not expect him back at any point the remainder of the season.
Will Warren - New York Yankees
Warren continues to mostly trend down, and now sits at 80% owned. He was near 100% owned a month ago.
Warren was tagged for six runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings against the Rays on Tuesday. He has now allowed five or more runs in three of his past four outings.
His season earned run average is still 4.15, so you can see he had been pitching pretty well until recently. Warren is 7-4 and has 94 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings, so there was plenty to like in his fantasy value. He's allowed 55 runs (43 earned) on 97 hits and 31 walks.
Warren is looking more and more like a standard league streaming option only. Only hold him for sure in deeper leagues. Keep tabs on him in case he bounces back, but it's more likely inconsistent outings make him a better deep-league asset the rest of the year.
Josh Jung - Texas Rangers
Jung is rostered in about 63% of leagues at this moment. He too is dealing with an injury.
He has not played since July 4 because of a knee injury. He is hoping to play on Wednesday though.
Jung has a .297 average and .362 OBP over 83 games and 359 plate appearances this season, so he's been a solid fantasy asset. He has 22 doubles and nine home runs among his 96 total hits, plus 34 RBIs, 41 runs scored, a stolen base, 29 walks and 64 strikeouts.
The third baseman has delivered well when active this season, so be watching his status closely. He's worth re-adding in some standard leagues, especially if you need help at 3B. Jung needs to be held in all deep leagues, unless the injury lingers for a while.
Jose Soriano - Los Angeles Angels
Soriano is owned in about 93% of leagues right now. He was rostered in pretty much every league earlier this season.
He has pitched pretty well of late, allowing two and three runs in his past two outings. Soriano had allowed five and four runs in the two starts before that.
He's had a good season overall, and sits with an 8-5 record and 3.40 ERA over 106 innings pitched. He's allowed 43 runs (40 earned) on 85 hits and 51 walks, while also striking out 115 batters.
His WHIP is high because of all the walks, but most of Soriano's other numbers have been good this season. He's at least worth rostering/utilizing in deeper leagues, and I like him in most standard leagues too. I don't see a reason to be dropping Soriano today.
Caleb Durbin - Boston Red Sox
Durbin is down to 53% rostered right now. He was above 60% earlier this month.
Durbin was on the rise recently, but has just one hit across five games so far this month. He homered for that hit, but only has two RBIs and three runs scored in that stretch.
He now has a .220 average and .282 OBP over 82 games and 296 plate appearances this season. Durbin has 17 doubles, eight home runs and a triple among his 59 total knocks, plus 37 RBIs, 34 runs scored, nine stolen bases, 20 walks and 42 strikeouts.
Durbin is a better deep-league fantasy asset, but can be utilized in some standard leagues if his bat is ever hot again. He's worth tracking the rest of the season and adding/dropping him as he goes in/out of hot/cold streaks.
