Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Does Tobias Myers or Jackson Jobe have the Better Outlook?

It's been tough to find enough streamers to fill out our slots over the past five days or so. We finally have an abundance of options today, and we didn't even have to stretch the term “streamer” to get there!

Let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Matthew Boyd, Chicago Cubs @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Generally, I talk about the team we are targeting more than the team of the pitcher, but the Pirates are terrible offensively…there's not a lot else to say. Instead, let's talk about the Cubs for a minute. Chicago has played one of the toughest schedules in baseball so far and still has an 18-12 record, best in their division and only three games back from the top record. Once they start playing within the division, the Cubs might put up some nice winning streaks.

Boyd hasn't hit 100 innings in a season since 2019, first limited by the shortened COVID season and then by injuries. Boyd has been a little better than average with both walks and strikeouts in his career, and though his Ks are down just a little to start 2025, that number might normalize over a longer period.

Boyd is a mid- to high-level streamer. The matchup is about as good as it gets, and Boyd looks good when he's on the field.

Emerson Hancock, Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels

Hancock spent a little time in the minors, but Seattle has dealt with some rotation injuries, necessitating his spot back in the big-league rotation. He is good with walks, but Hancock has been well below average with strikeouts, something that was true also in the minor leagues.

The Angels have two players in the top 10 in home runs: Mike Trout (nine homers) and catcher Logan O'Hoppe (eight). Trout is also batting just .175 and has three times as many strikeouts as walks. O'Hoppe and shortstop Zach Neto are the only two players hitting over .240. Along with some highs, LA has seen plenty of lows early in the season.

Hancock is a low-level streamer. The matchup is right, but Hancock hasn't been good enough to spend innings on this early.

Jackson Jobe, Detroit Tigers @ Houston Astros

Jobe was a high-level prospect and has had good results to start the season (six earned runs in 20 innings for a 2.70 ERA). His strikeout and walk rates are untenable for sustained success, though, around five percentage points worse than average in both categories. It's a small sample, and those numbers will probably improve, but Jobe is playing with fire by putting so many guys on base without the associated strikeouts to get out of trouble.

The Astros are down in the bottom 10 in most offensive categories, looking like a team that might continue to flounder rather than bounce back. They are closer to 20th than 30th in many of those stats, but they are a target until showing extended success.

Jobe is a mid-level streamer. It wouldn't be a surprise to see him continue to succeed, but his rates are still a little concerning.

Tobias Myers, Milwaukee Brewers @ Chicago White Sox

Myers started the season on the IL, making his debut last Thursday with uneven results (four innings, four hits, four walks, two runs, and two strikeouts). Myers was very good as a rookie last season: 138 innings with a 3.00 ERA and better-than-average rates with both walks and strikeouts.

The White Sox are possibly the worst team in baseball. I say the same things about them every day; they're essentially the Pirates of the American League, with no redeeming factors.

Myers is a mid- to high-level streamer. His performance last season showed a young pitcher who can be above-average in every facet, and though he might need a little time to work into shape, the matchup here is pristine.

Luis Severino, Athletics @ Texas Rangers

Add the Rangers as another season-long target who looks more likely to keep struggling rather than seeing a sudden bump in performance. They have the names to make it seem like they should be better, but this extends back to last season, and Texas isn't showing a lot of improvement. They are in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS.

Severino has been performing very much like his career numbers would suggest aside from a drop in strikeouts that began in 2023. That takes him down a notch, as he was previously an above-average K guy, but Severino is still a good pitcher who can be considered as a fantasy streamer in every league.

Severino is a mid-level streamer. His lack of strikeouts combined with Texas not striking out puts a cap on his ceiling, but we can still expect decent results given his skill and the nice matchup.

Wednesday's Streamer Rankings

  1. Matthew Boyd, CHC
  2. Tobias Myers, MIL
  3. Luis Severino, ATH
  4. Jackson Jobe, DET
  5. Emerson Hancock, SEA
