Nathan Church searches for offensive rhythm amid a deep mid-July slump

Church is currently mired in a difficult stretch, going hitless in his last 9 at-bats and slashing just .135 over the past 14 days. Despite the cold bat, he continues to see regular action as the primary center fielder for a third-place Cardinals squad that holds a 50-45 record. He has remained healthy since his June activation from the injured list, but the offensive production has yet to stabilize following his return to the everyday lineup.

Looking under the hood, his .236 season average is slipping toward a .191 mark over the last 30 days. While his 8 home runs already represent a significant step forward in his development, our models project him to add several more homers and 32 RBI over his remaining 150 projected at-bats. The strikeout rate remains a concern, but his role as a staple in the outfield gives him plenty of opportunities to reach his ceiling once he regains his timing.

The Cardinals conclude their week with a three-game road series against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Our projection suggests a difficult path for Church through the weekend, forecasting a .195 average and limited counting stat production over the remaining games. Given his current hitless streak and the lack of immediate momentum, he is a liability in most fantasy formats until he shows signs of life at the plate. Sit.
