Hey folks. The injury ledger swings both ways this week, as two high-end contributors return to their respective hockey clubs post Olympic break after extended absences, giving fantasy managers a late-season boost at forward and on the blue line. Reinforcements are coming, and that kind of timing can shift playoff races in a hurry.

But the optimism doesn't last across the board. One superstar and captain is expected to miss at least four weeks following an Olympic setback, and another veteran forward is headed for season-ending hip surgery in March. That's two roster pillars suddenly removed from the stretch run picture, and managers will need to pivot quickly. Let's dive in.

Leo Carlsson - Anaheim Ducks

Carlsson wasted no time reminding fantasy managers what they were missing. In his return from LTIR, he erupted for a three-point night - one goal and two assists - against the Edmonton Oilers, immediately looking confident and aggressive with the puck. There was no easing back in here. He jumped straight into a featured role and drove offense like he hadn't missed a beat.

You could feel the ripple effect, too. The Ducks' attack looked more structured and dangerous with him in the middle of it, and when he's pushing the pace, the entire top six benefits. For a young player coming off an absence, that kind of explosive return says a lot about both his conditioning and his mindset.

From a fantasy perspective, this is exactly what you wanted to see - no minutes restriction, no visible rust, just immediate production. If you've been stashing him, this is your green light to plug him right back into your lineup. And if he was somehow dropped during the injury stretch, that buy-low window likely just slammed shut.

Carlsson has 19 goals, 28 assists, and 13 powerplay points in 45 games played as a forward. He also has 111 shots on goal, nine hits, and 16 blocked shots.

Adam Fox - New York Rangers

Fox is finally set to return Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, and it couldn't come at a better time for the Rangers or fantasy managers. This season has been a frustrating one for him, with nagging lower-body injuries forcing multiple stints on IR and keeping him out of 27 of the team's last 30 contests. To add insult to injury, he was passed over for the Olympics before getting reinjured - and I don't agree with that at all.

In my eyes, Fox is one of the best defensemen in the league from an eye-test and fantasy perspective, and it's been frustrating to see him overlooked on a Rangers' team that has struggled to find consistent scoring depth.

When he's healthy, Fox is exactly the kind of blueliner who can carry fantasy value across multiple categories. He's involved in transition, moves the puck efficiently, and quarterbacked the Rangers top powerplay unit this season. Even in limited action, he's already racked a ton of points for a blueliner, and now that he's fully recovered, he should be able to pick up where he left off. His skating, vision, and ability to control play from the back end make him a consistent point per game threat when fully utilized.

From a fantasy perspective, this is a massive boost. Managers who stashed him during the injuries are finally getting their payoff, and those who had to watch from the sidelines are now looking at a top tier defenseman re-entering the lineup just as the playoff push heats up. There's immediate upside here, both in real world impact and fantasy production, making him a must watch for anyone hoping to solidify their blue line down the stretch.

Fox has four goals, 24 assists, and nine powerplay points in 30 games played as a defenseman. He also has 56 shots on goal, 15 hits, and 45 blocked shots.

Sidney Crosby - Pittsburgh Penguins

Crosby's Olympic run ended on a frustrating note, and now it's carrying over to the NHL. The captain of Team Canada battled through injuries at the Games and was even a gametime decision for both of the final contests, including the gold medal matchup. Given that, it was surprising to see him return to North America only to be placed on the bench for at least four more weeks.

General manager Kyle Dubas is clearly protecting his aging star, prioritizing long-term health over rushing him back into action, which makes perfect sense but leaves a significant hole in the lineup.

The Penguins have been competitive all season and remain potential playoff contenders, but losing Crosby for a month or more is a major blow. He's on track for another point per game season, and his absence immediately diminishes the team's scoring depth. Pittsburgh is now forced to shuffle lines, moving Rickard Rakell to center alongside Bryan Rust, but there's no replacing the creativity, vision, and finishing ability that Crosby brings night in and night out.

From a fantasy perspective, this is a real gut punch. He's the kind of player who consistently delivers elite production, and losing him even temporarily changes the dynamics for anyone counting on Penguins points. Managers will need to pivot quickly, either by finding a temporary replacement or leaning on secondary options, because his return isn't imminent and the team's depth will be tested in the meantime.

Crosby has 27 goals, 32 assists, and 20 powerplay points in 56 games played as a forward. He also has 132 shots on goal, 50 hits, and 23 blocked shots.

Jonathan Huberdeau - Calgary Flames

Huberdeau's season is coming to an unfortunate and abrupt end, as he's set to undergo season-ending hip surgery in March. After joining Calgary on a massive eight year, $84M AAV deal, expectations have been sky high, but he has yet to consistently play up to that contract or replicate the offensive explosion that earned him a 100+ point season in Florida. This year, he'll finish with just 20 points, a disappointing return for a player of his caliber.

The Flames will now have to adjust their top six forward deployment and powerplay units without him, leaning on younger players and secondary scoring to pick up the slack. While Huberdeau's absence is a hit for Calgary in the standings, it also leaves a noticeable gap for fantasy managers, especially those counting on steady point production from the forward group.

From a fantasy lens, this is a season-long blow. There's no quick replacement for his ice time or offensive role, and managers will need to pivot immediately to avoid watching points evaporate. That said, with a no movement clause running through 2030-31, Huberdeau will be a fixture in Calgary long term, meaning this is a temporary loss that will be relevant only for the rest of this campaign.

If you have him in a redraft league, you can safely drop him. If you are holding him in a dynasty league - unless deep, it is really time to start questioning his longevity and value on your squad.

Huberdeau has 10 goals, 15 assists, and seven powerplay points in 50 games played as a forward. He also has 83 shots on goal, 30 hits, and 30 blocked shots.
