Let's jump right in today and look at five starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Use FantasySP's waiver wire tool to find the players who are being added to fantasy teams most often!

Jose Cabrera, Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Diego Padres

The 24-year-old Cabrera has made three starts. The first one against the Twins was good: five shutout innings, three hits, and three strikeouts with no walks. The past two (Tampa Bay then Milwaukee) haven't gone as well, as he combined for 8 1/3 innings with 13 hits, seven runs, three homers, and five walks to go with seven strikeouts. Cabrera had middling numbers in the minor leagues (including below-average K work), so we can probably expect more mixed results.

The Padres remain one of our favorite targets, sitting near the bottom in many offensive box stats, including ranking last in runs, hits, batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS. San Diego had a positive record for most of the first half of the season, relying on luck and a strong bullpen, but they have now fallen under .500 and had a run differential of minus-47; they are far from a true contender if they don't make major improvements.

Cabrera is a low-level streamer. Though the matchup is pristine, Cabrera has almost zero track record, and given his middling work in the minors, I don't have high expectations until we see him excel.

Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves

Atlanta remains at the top of their division with a sparkling plus-87 run differential, but their recent play has been far below that standard. Over the past 30 days, the Braves are in the bottom five (or very close to it) in runs, hits, home runs, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. There are plenty of swells and swoons during a long baseball season, and the Braves are likely to have much better stretches, but their poor play lately leaves them vulnerable on the right days.

Jones missed the entire 2025 season and has seemingly been on a pitch count as he works his way back, throwing between 73 and 81 pitches in six of his seven starts (in the other outing, he left early after getting hit in the arm by a comebacker). While his performance has been up and down, he is coming off a strong game against the Phillies when he went four innings and gave up just two hits and one run with six strikeouts and two walks. Jones has a big ceiling but plenty of risk right now, including only reaching five innings once, leaving him short of qualifying for wins.

Jones is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup is good now but maybe only tentatively, and Jones is still working his way back into form after a long layoff, so there's plenty of risk to go with upside (which might be more prevelant in the future).

Connor Prielipp, Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians

Prielipp is in his rookie season, just over 60 innings into his career. His numbers are a little worse than average overall, but Prielipp has done a little better than average with both walks and strikeouts. He is coming off maybe his best performance, when he gave up two runs in six innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks. He did good strikeout work in the minor leagues, so there's hope that Prielipp can continue excelling in that area, something that would make him an intriguing fantasy pitcher moving forward.

Cleveland mirrors Atlanta in that they rank in the bottom 10 in essentially every major box stat over the past month. Unlike the Braves, however, the Guardians have been that lowly throughout the entire year, and their season-long numbers are equally as poor despite their standing near the top of the AL Central. Cleveland has a way of figuring things out, but there is no way they are going to be a real contender with an offense that can't even get close to average.

Prielipp is a low-to-mid-level streamer. His strikeout work gives him a little more upside than other pitchers at this level, and the matchup is right for a good outing here, but his short track record with some struggles thrown in make it best to temper expectations a bit.

Jeffrey Springs, Athletics @ Detroit Tigers

The Tigers have been an average offensive team over the past month, most notably hitting for power at a good clip. Over the full season, they rate as a below-average group with the bats, but they are generally closer to the middle than they are to the bottom. The Tigers had a poor start to the season but have looked better, and in a weak division, they are well within the hunt. One good week between now and the trade deadline could keep Tarik Skubal in Detroit for the rest of the season.

Springs looked better at the beginning of the year, but he had by far his worst month in June. In six starts last month, Springs combined for 27 innings, 37 hits, 32 runs (30 earned), 12 home runs, and 13 walks to go with 23 strikeouts. He generally has a good walk rate, but Springs has been a below-average strikeout pitcher as a starter, keeping his ceiling down as well.

Springs is a low-level streamer. The matchup isn't as good right now as the full-season numbers might indicate, and with Springs having his worst stretch at the same time, it's best to show extra caution in this one.

Walbert Urena, Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers

Urena is another pitcher in his first season who has shown promise while mixing in plenty of struggles. He has been average or better with strikeouts and limiting hits, runs, and home runs, but Urena has been walking too many hitters, something that can bring issues in any given start. Urena has also allowed seven unearned runs (over 20% of his runs allowed), so his ERA just above 3.00 is a little misleading. There is still plenty of intrigue for the 22-year-old.

I have talked often about how the Rangers are a much worse offensive team at home, as they play in one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball. When looking just at games that teams have played at home, Texas ranks in the bottom five (or very close to it) in essentially every offensive box stat. Much like we can avoid Coors Field with pitchers in fantasy, it makes sense to target the parks that favor pitchers the most, and Globe Life Field fits that mold to a high degree.

Urena is a mid-level streamer. His work has been decent around the hiccups, and the matchup and location here are heavily in his favor, portending good things.

Wednesday's Streamer Rankings

  1. Walbert Urena, LAA
  2. Connor Prielipp, MIN
  3. Jared Jones, PIT
  4. Jose Cabrera, ARI
  5. Jeffrey Springs, ATH
