Sunday Fantasy Baseball SP Streamers: Perez and Sproat Among Top Waiver Wire Targets
Five starting pitchers with good matchups on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
Let's jump right in today and look at five starting pitchers in action on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.
Use FantasySP's waiver wire tool to find the players who are being added to fantasy teams most often!
Erick Fedde, Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians
Fedde has been a little worse than average in most areas this season. He walks a few too many guys and gives up a few too many hits and runs, but Fedde has struggled more with giving up home runs and holding a perilously low strikeout rate. His 15.1% K rate is far below league average (around 22%), leaving Fedde without many avenues to a successful fantasy outing.
Cleveland ranks in the bottom 10 in most offensive areas, and they even reach the bottom five (or very close to it) in runs, hits, home runs, batting average, slugging percentage, and OPS. They are better with doubles and walks, and the Guardians don't strike out a lot, but they aren't a very imposing team despite their spot at the top of the AL Central; this isn't a team that looks like it can contend for anything in the playoffs.
Fedde is a low-level streamer. The matchup is good, but Fedde hasn't been an effective enough player in fantasy to really trust in your lineup just halfway through the season.
Ryan Johnson, Los Angeles Angels vs. Boston Red Sox
Boston entered the weekend ranking last in both run and home runs; they're also in the bottom 10 in most offensive box stats with only a few areas where they reach average or better (like Cleveland, they have hit a lot of doubles, which is something, but much less effective than excelling in home runs). The Red Sox are one of the most disappointing teams of the first half and a group that we will keep targeting with fantasy pitchers.
Johnson has just 39 big-league innings to his name, and the overall numbers aren't great, as he has allowed 52 hits with an ERA of 7.38 and a below-average strikeout rate. He was much better in the minor leagues, so there's hope that Johnson can improve as he gets more time under his belt. In his last two starts (against the Orioles and Mariners, two below-average offenses), Johnson combined for 11 innings, five hits, three runs (just one earned), 11 strikeouts, and one walk; he could be turning things around already.
Johnson is a low-to-mid-level streamer. I'm tempted to bump him up a level due to his recent success and the strong matchup, but he hasn't found much success overall in the majors, so it's best to temper expectations just a bit.
Martin Perez, Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets
Perez is having one of the best seasons of his 15-year career, allowing just 59 hits, 28 runs, and nine home runs in 77 innings. His walk and strikeout rates are both just a bit worse than average, but they're close enough to the middle to play well with his effectiveness in limiting hitters when they make contact. The most likely outcome is that Perez regresses to the mean in a negative way (he gave up seven runs in nine innings over his past two starts), but Perez has shown plenty of success on a Braves team that often gets the best out of their pitchers.
While most of the teams we target rank in the bottom 10 in most areas, the Mets fall even lower, ranking in the bottom six in runs, hits, doubles, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. As they have continued to struggle over the past month, we don't have many better target teams than New York, leaving them as a team to go after every day that you can.
Perez is a mid-level streamer. Again, he is more likely to regress than improve the rest of the way, but Perez has looked good in 2026, and the matchup couldn't be much better.
Kumar Rocker, Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers
Much of this section on Rocker appeared in yesterday's streaming article, as Rocker was originally scheduled to pitch on Saturday before getting bumped to Sunday.
The Tigers rank closer to the middle than the bottom of the league, but they probably still qualify as a bottom-10 offense overall. Though they don't fall to the basement in many areas, they also don't excel anywhere, leaving them middling at best and often worse. Detroit also strikes out right on the fringe of a top-10 rate, setting a decent ceiling for opposing pitchers.
Rocker is coming off a strong start, when he threw six shutout innings against Toronto with five strikeouts and just one walk. He has been close to average with both walks and strikeouts on the season while doing well limiting hits, runs, and home runs, showing some of the promise that his lofty draft status portended. I expect Rocker's strikeout work to improve as he gets more innings under his belt, which would vault him up another level.
Rocker is a mid-level streamer. On top of his own work and the good matchup, this game takes place in Texas, one of the best pitcher's parks in the league, setting Rocker up with a strong outlook.
Brandon Sproat, Milwaukee Brewers @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Sproat made four starts with the Mets last season but is officially in his rookie season with Milwaukee this year. He has done well limiting hits but has given up too many runs and home runs; those two things are likely connected. He has also walked too many guys, but Sproat has a very good strikeout rate (an area where he did decent work in the minors as well). Sproat is coming off two very good starts (both against the Reds), when he combined for 11 1/3 innings, five hits, two runs, two walks, and 17 strikeouts; there could be more good times coming.
Arizona gets the benefit of playing in one of the best hitter's parks in baseball, but that hasn't helped them much this season, as they rank in the bottom 10 in most offensive box stats. (They fit the same quirk as a few other teams listed here today in that they excel with doubles but nothing else.) While they don't draw walks, they also rank very low in strikeouts, so they don't set as high of a ceiling as some other teams we like to target.
Sproat is a low-to-mid-level streamer. There is nice upside for the young pitcher but also risk given some of his struggles in his short career, but the matchup works out in his favor (though they are playing in the hitter's haven of Arizona).
