Should You Add Chandler Simpson?
Simpson is rostered in 61.01% of fantasy leagues at this moment. He was at 56% yesterday.
Simpson went hitless on Monday, but had eight hits in the five games before that. In 17 August games, Simpson has 23 hits, including three doubles and two triples. In 77 total plate appearances, Simpson owns a .319 average and .364 on-base percentage this month. He also has six RBIs and stolen bases, 11 runs scored, five walks and nine strikeouts.
He's looked good in his first 82 games and 324 plate appearances as a big leaguer. Simpson owns a .302 average and .340 OBP, along with 91 total hits. He has three triples and 11 doubles among his hits, along with 21 RBIs, 41 runs scored, 38 stolen bases, 18 walks and 31 strikeouts.
Simpson might not provide much power, but with a high stolen base mark, average and OBP, he's a really good fantasy asset. If your league doesn't favor power hitters, Simpson is a desirable fantasy asset, especially because he doesn't strike out a lot.
I think he's undervalued and flying under the radar. Who cares if he isn't hitting homers or driving in a ton of runs, he's getting on base often and not hurting himself with tons of negative points. Add him in your standard league, especially if you need outfield help, and you'll come to enjoy the rookie's value in time.
Should You Add Trent Grisham?
Grisham sits at 42.66% overall - he was at 39% yesterday.
He has four hits over the team's past two games, and two of those hits are homers. Grisham has two RBIs, three runs scored, two walks and two strikeouts in that short span as well.
He's been a bit inconsistent this month, with several multi-hit efforts, but a handful of hitless games too. Grisham still has a .262 average and .367 OBP over 22 games and 98 plate appearances this month. He has seven homers among his 22 total knocks, while also tallying 10 RBIs, 16 runs scored, a stolen base, 13 walks and 18 strikeouts.
Grisham is enjoying his best season as a big leaguer. He has 25 homers, nine doubles and a triple among his 98 total hits. Grisham has 50 RBIs, 66 runs scored, a stolen base, 60 walks and 97 strikeouts over 114 games and 456 plate appearances. He has a .250 average and .354 OBP.
He bats leadoff against right-handed pitchers, and also started the team's last game against a lefty, hitting sixth. Him being in the lineup daily is big for his fantasy value. Him hitting atop the order most often puts him in an even better position.
The outfielder would be more rostered in fantasy leagues if he were at a different position. He has solid season numbers, and has been a bit better than that this month.
I like adding him in some more leagues right now. I think he should be rostered in almost every deeper league out there already, so stop reading this and pick him up in those leagues, especially if you need some outfield help. Grisham is also a streaming option in standard leagues for the time being, or until his power surge slows a bit.
This is one of the few times that a well-known player on a notable team isn't owned in enough leagues. Let's change that.
Should You Add Colton Cowser?
Cowser is owned in 26.15% of leagues after being at 25% or lower for the past week or so.
Cowser is riding a six-game hitting streak coming into today. He has nine hits over that stretch, including three homers and a double. Cowser has eight RBIs, four runs scored, a stolen base, three walks and seven strikeouts over 27 plate appearances in that stretch.
The outfielder has appeared in 64 games and gotten 252 plate appearances so far this season. Cowser has a .225 average and .290 OBP, along with 30 RBIs, 27 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 16 walks and 80 strikeouts. He has 12 homers and 11 doubles among his 52 total knocks.
It's been a bit of a disappointing fantasy year for Cowser between injuries and poor hitting while on the field. He's on the rise of late, and could be a sneaky good asset down the stretch if he just stays on the field.
There's a chance he's settled in finally and starts seeing that average and OBP climb toward last season (.242 average, .321 OBP). That could make Cowser a daily starter down the stretch.
He's another guy to start adding in more deeper leagues. He's not a must-add hitter, but another week of strong hitting could get him into all deeper leagues. That would also put him on the standard league streaming map, so keep an eye on Cowser.
Should You Add Charlie Morton?
Morton is up 2.92% so far today and is rostered in 45.58% of leagues overall.
Morton is a streaming option for Tuesday. He'll take on the Athletics in a late contest. Morton faced them while pitching for the Orioles, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks over 2 1/3 innings - a positive from that start was that he had five strikeouts.
He's on a better team now, and the Tigers' offense gives him a better chance at earning wins. Morton is 2-2 with a 3.63 earned run average over 22 1/3 innings in his first four starts with Detroit. He's allowed nine runs on 16 hits and eight walks, while striking out 29 batters.
His first matchup against the Athletics didn't go well, but Morton has been trending up after joining the Tigers, so I like streaming him tonight. He's a good deep-league option, and I could also justify streaming him in some standard leagues too.
Look over all your options and see how confident you feel in the Detroit veteran. He has a decent floor and solid ceiling as well, and could put up one of the better fantasy scores for a starting pitcher tonight.
Should You Add Sandy Alcantara?
Alcantara has been added in 2.72% of leagues and is at 64.65% overall now.
He will make a start against the Braves this evening. Alcantara has faced them twice this season, earning a win and a loss.
Alcantara took the loss on August 9, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings - he struck out four. He tossed six innings against the Braves on June 22 to get the win. Alcantara allowed three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.
He's looked good over his past two starts, allowing three runs (two earned) over 13 innings. Alcantara has allowed seven hits and just two walks over those starts, while striking out 16.
So he too is trending up, but the matchup against the Braves isn't the most appealing to try him in, especially because of how he's fared against them so far this season.
Again, I see another decent streaming option, but not one I'd call a must-start pitcher in deeper leagues. He could be used in standard leagues, but there's other streaming options I'm more confident in, including Morton.
Don't put too much faith in Alcantara, as he's really owned in too many leagues right now because of his name. His 6.04 season ERA tells you everything you need to know about his outlook in any start.
