Jacob Misiorowski Called Up to the MLB | Fantasy Baseball Outlook for the Brewers' Flamethrower

Assessing the fantasy baseball outlook for Milwaukee's Jacob Misiorowski as he's getting called up this week.

Another day, another big-time MLB prospect getting a call up to the big leagues.

Yesterday, it was Roman Anthony joining the Boston Red Sox. Today, it's Jacob Misiorowski being promoted by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Let's assess Misiorowski as a fantasy asset as he prepares to make his MLB debut.

Misiorowski's Grades and Minor League Starts

Misiorowski is the No. 68 prospect in baseball, although several other lists have him ranked higher.

The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher was drafted 63rd overall by the Brewers in 2022. He is an imposing figure on the mound at 6-foot-7 and 197 pounds.

His 80-grade fastball is what makes him a highly-regarded prospect. Misiorowski has a 70-grade curveball and a 60-grade slider, so he's not just a flamethrower (as my title might suggest). His issue is control, and that's graded as a 40 and is what holds him back from being graded higher than a 55 overall (which he is now).

Misiorowski was pitching in his fourth minor league season. Across 68 games and 55 starts, he's covered 233 2/3 innings. Misiorowski has an 11-9 record and 3.04 earned run average.

He's allowed just a .170 average against him. Misiorowski has 140 walks and 320 strikeouts to his name.

Misiorowski has made 12 starts and 13 appearances in Triple-A this season. He's 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA over 63 1/3 innings. Mis has 80 strikeouts, 31 walks and a .175 average against him.

He clearly had passed all the minor league tests he needed to, so the Brewers are going to give him his first taste of the big leagues.

Misiorowski's Fantasy Outlook

His big fastball and strikeout numbers are really appealing to fantasy owners, even if he's never made an MLB appearance so far.

He's a highly-regarded prospect for a reason, and that gives him a solid fantasy outlook right away. 

Pitching isn't an issue for the Brewers as much as hitting is, but Misiorowski could stick in the rotation with good results on the mound. For now though, it's tough to judge him past Thursday's probable start.

Should You Add Misiorowski to Your Fantasy Team?

At the very least, Misiorowski will make one start. He's expected to pitch on Thursday against the Cardinals.

That's a fairly average fantasy matchup for him, meaning Mis is going to be a streaming option right out of the gates. His big-time fastball and strikeout numbers are going to appeal to fantasy owners in all leagues.

Misiorowski is owned in 14% of leagues, and you can expect that number to go way up between now and the time he starts on Thursday. 

As far as him being a streaming option on Thursday, I think Mis might end up being a pretty good option. There's only eight games scheduled for that day already, so there's a lack of options.

Without knowing each team's probable starter that day, I'm going to say Misiorowski is worth a deep-league start. He'll be an option in standard leagues as well, and maybe one of the better options.

His fantasy floor might be pretty low if his pitch count is held to 85 or so pitches. He might top out at five innings, and then he'd need a bunch of strikeouts and a low amount of runs allowed to turn in a good fantasy total.

Misiorowski's fantasy ceiling is really high because of his strikeout upside. He could rack up enough strikeouts in five or six innings to deliver a monster fantasy score, but again, he's going to have to limit runs to do that.

I'm willing to give Misiorowski a streaming start in all league types, but also know there's some risk involved in his MLB debut. 

We'll need to wait until that start is over and the team announces Misiorowski's future plan to determine whether he's worth adding and keeping in fantasy leagues.

He could become a big-time fantasy asset in short order, so he's someone who needs to be on everyone's fantasy radar right away. Make sure to check out his final line from Thursday's start, then watch Brewers' news to see if he's going to stick in the rotation or be sent right back to Triple-A.
