Is it Time to Drop Willy Adames and Bryson Stott in Fantasy Baseball Leagues?

Looking at several fantasy baseball drop candidates near the end of the week.

After looking at fantasy baseball waiver wire hitters and pitchers to possibly add on Friday, let's go over another round of drop candidates.

We won't cover anyone who appeared in drop stories on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Explore the best in-season tool to manage lineup/start decisions including waiver pickups, projections, trade suggestions, trade value charts, rest of season rankings, power rankings, and tons more with Fantasy Assistant.

Should You Drop Willy Adames?

Adames is rostered in 75% of leagues right now. That's a very disappointing percentage after he was drafted around pick 85 on average this season.

Adames has 272 plate appearances over 63 games played this season. He sits with a .198 average and .288 on-base percentage. Adames has five homers, a triple and 10 doubles among his 47 total knocks, along with 26 RBIs, three stolen bases, 31 runs scored, 30 walks and 71 strikeouts.

Adames has just one hit in June, and it was a single. He's gotten 20 plate appearances this month. Adames has an RBI and run scored, four walks and five strikeouts.

Adames still plays every game for the Giants, but he's batting fifth or sixth while struggling at the plate. That's still a solid spot for a fantasy hitter, but the Giants' offense isn't as good as expected, with Adames' struggles contributing.

His career .245 average and .319 OBP aren't great, but he was coming off a season in which he hit .251 and got on base at a .331 clip. Adames had 55 extra-base hits, 112 RBIs, 21 stolen bases and 93 runs scored last season.

I expected him to take a step back this season, but his falloff has been way more than expected. He's not even a good starting option in deep leagues right now.

Adames isn't a top-20 fantasy shortstop in points leagues this season, and that means he shouldn't be a standard league asset right now. I get wanting to hold on to him after drafting him somewhat early, but the production simply isn't there. If your standard league team needs immediate help, I'd drop Adames.

I'd do my best to keep Adames rostered in deeper redraft leagues. I'd just bench him until his bat heats up.

Adames is due for some more positive results at the plate at some point, so even though I'm telling some of you to drop him, he's still a player to keep tabs on. He's been a good fantasy asset in the past, and I bet he will be again this season.

Should You Drop Trent Grisham?

Grisham is rostered in 49% of leagues today. He was over 70% back in mid-May.

On May 13, Grisham was sitting with a .294 average and .374 OBP. Now he's at a .239 average and .340 OBP across 54 total games and 203 plate appearances.

Grisham has 13 homers, a triple and three doubles among his 42 total knocks this season. He also has 26 RBIs, 30 runs scored, 26 walks and 45 strikeouts.

Since May 13, Grisham has a .149 average and .288 OBP over 19 games and 80 plate appearances. That's simply not enough production, but Grisham at least remains a daily starter for the Yankees.

He typically bats first or second for New York, which is a great fantasy spot to be. That could change if his bat doesn't heat up though.

Grisham is looking more like a deep-league fantasy option who can be streamed in standard leagues when he's hot at the plate. That time is definitely not now, but he's a player to keep tabs on in case he gets rolling again at some point.

Drop him in standard redraft leagues and deeper leagues only a bit larger than standard setups. Bench Grisham in leagues deeper than that and hope he heats up soon.

Should You Drop Miguel Vargas?

Vargas sits at 54% rostered right now. That's down from just under 65% early this month.

Vargas has three hits this month, with all three being singles. He has two runs scored, no RBIs, a walk and three strikeouts over five games and 16 plate appearances this month.

He's played in 60 games and gotten 245 plate appearances this season. Vargas has a .237 average and .314 OBP, along with 26 RBIs, a stolen base, 28 runs scored, 22 walks and 44 strikeouts.

When Vargas starts, which is most days, he's batting third for the White Sox. Chicago is a terrible lineup to be a part of, but he's in a favorable fantasy spot batting third.

He's another deep-league fantasy asset who can be streamed in standard leagues when he's a bit hotter at the plate. I'd do my best to keep rostering Vargas in deeper leagues, because I think he eventually gets traded at the deadline and joins a better offense.

I'd drop Vargas in standard redraft leagues right now, but also keep an eye on him in case he heats up again, or gets traded to a contending team at some point.

Should You Drop Bryson Stott?

Stott is rostered in 86% of fantasy leagues today. He's ever so slightly trending down with that mark since late May.

He has just one hit (a single) in June. He's got two RBIs and runs scored, along with two walks and three strikeouts in four games and 17 plate appearances this month.

Stott is hitting .244 and getting on base at a .311 clip over 56 games and 236 plate appearances this season. He has six doubles, two triples and four homers among his 52 total hits, along with 26 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, 30 runs scored, 20 walks and 42 strikeouts.

Over the team's past five games, Stott has made as many starts, including one against a lefty. He batted eighth in that game, but first in the other four starts.

Batting first for the Phillies is a good fantasy spot for a fantasy hitter to be in, but if Stott isn't producing at the plate, then it's difficult to utilize Stott in fantasy.

I think he's a touch overowned right now, but as I mentioned earlier, he's trending down a bit now. He's a better trade candidate than a true drop option, but it all comes down to whether you think he'll bounce back, or keep producing at similar levels all season.

Stott should remain rostered in all deeper leagues all season, so only consider dropping him in standard redraft leagues.

Should You Drop Matthew Liberatore?

Liberatore is rostered in 80% of fantasy leagues today. He was at 86% in late May.

He's enjoyed a strong start to his season, but has been rocked in back-to-back starts now. Liberatore has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) over his past two starts, which cover just nine innings. He left his Thursday start against Kansas City, but it was chalked up to fatigue, and isn't supposed to be a big issue.

Before these past two starts, Liberatore had a 3-3 record and 2.73 earned run average over his first 10 starts and 59 1/3 innings. He allowed 19 runs (18 earned) on 52 hits and eight walks, while striking out 51 batters.

He is a full-time starter for the first time in his MLB career, so his strong start to the season was surprising. It's also concerning that he's struggled in two straight starts and left because of fatigue in his most recent appearance.

He's already nearing a MLB career high in innings pitched, so this will be something to track going forward. He might eventually fall back to being a deep-league fantasy asset who can only be streamed in standard leagues in favorable matchups.

With that in mind, it could be a time to drop Liberatore. I'd try to trade him away before I dropped him though. He should have enough value to at least swap for another similar-level player.

As long as he is good to make his next scheduled starts, Liberatore could face the Blue Jays and White Sox, which are both favorable outings. You could utilize him in those two games, then look to sell high.
