Impact of Alex Bregman Signing with Red Sox | Fantasy Baseball Repercussions for Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Triston Casas and More
Discussing the fantasy baseball and real world impact of the Alex Bregman trade.
Pitchers and catchers have begun reporting for spring training, but that doesn't mean teams are done making moves before the season.
The Boston Red Sox made a splash on Tuesday by adding Alex Bregman.
Let's discuss what the move means for Bregman, the Red Sox and the team's other players.

Bregman's Numbers
Bregman spent the first nine years of his career with the Houston Astros.
He has a career .272 average, but has been below that mark in the past five seasons. Bregman has a .366 on-base percentage, but has also finished at that mark or lower in five straight years.
Bregman averages 21.2 home runs per season. He's been over that mark in three straight seasons, including a 26-homer campaign in 2024. Bregman averages 73.7 RBIs per season, and has topped that mark in three consecutive seasons as well.
Bregman has not stolen over five bases since 2018, but he's good for at least a couple a season. He scored 79 runs last season, which was his lowest mark in a full season (over 140 games).
His numbers might have faded a bit across the board as he's aged, but he's still one of the better third basemen in the MLB. Bregman has posted a WAR (wins above replacement) of at least 4 in every season he's played over 140 games.
Bregman was one of the more sought after free agent hitters this offseason, and definitely gives the Red Sox lineup a boost.
Red Sox Outlook
Boston already has Rafael Devers at third base. Devers is younger, so I'm guessing Bregman will be playing a new position in 2025. Second base seems like the most logical landing place for Bregman.
Bregman should slot into the heart of the team's order, which will not only make the top-end of the lineup better, but lengthen the lineup some too.
FanGraphs has Jarren Duran leading off, Devers second, Bregman third and Triston Casas fourth. Masataka Yoshida slots into the five spot, while Trevor Story sits sixth. Wilyer Abreu, Connor Wong and Ceddanne Rafaela round out the lineup.
It's not a super stacked lineup, but it's good enough to make some noise and push for a playoff spot I think. Health will probably go a long way in determining how good the offense can be.
The make-or-break unit for the Red Sox is going to be pitching. There's enough talent in the rotation and bullpen, but they'll need a couple players to break out if they want to seriously make some noise in the American League.
Fantasy Impact
Bregman was part of a stacked lineup in Houston over the years, and there were only a few teams he could have gone to where the lineup would have put him in a better fantasy position. Boston was not one of them. But I still think there's enough talent in the lineup to help Bregman be a good fantasy asset in 2025 and beyond.
Bregman is currently going around pick 78, and was the sixth third baseman off fantasy draft boards. Now that we know where he'll be playing, we'll see if his draft stock rises or falls. I personally think he should drop several picks, while remaining the sixth third basemen off draft boards.
He's a daily starting option, but I also wouldn't mind drafting a second 3B in case Bregman isn't performing quite as well this coming season.
This will mostly help the batters after Bregman, but Duran and Devers (if they bat before Bregman) should also get more pitches to hit, and maybe score a few more runs now. I don't think either player will see their draft stocks rise or fall too much because of the move.
I think this impacts Casas the most from a fantasy perspective. He's going to bat with runners on base even more now, and he's going to be a great fantasy asset if he can stay on the field. Casas is going around pick 132 right now, but I'd expect that to keep rising as the season approaches.
Most of the other Boston hitters are off the draft boards in most standard leagues. Several guys are options near the end of drafts, but some platoon and durability issues keep guys like Yoshida, Story, and Abreu as mostly deep-league fantasy option.
Wong is a sneaky good option later in drafts, especially at a weaker catcher fantasy position. Rafaela is another one to keep an eye on, but will likely be a waiver addition in standard leagues if he's hitting well this season.
The Bregman signing won't impact the fantasy outlooks for many pitchers, but it could improve starting pitchers' chances to earn wins and post a bit lower earned run average.
Final Thoughts
This move has a bigger real life impact on things.
A few fantasy outlooks are altered with Bregman joining the Red Sox, but for the most part, this will just affect how well Boston does on the actual field.
I think that Casas will see the biggest fantasy impact from the trade, so keep a close eye on his draft value as the weeks pass by. Otherwise, I see marginal increases or decreases for player's fantasy outlooks.
