Fantasy Baseball Wednesday Pitching Streamers: Bennett, Martin, and More
Four starting pitchers with good matchups on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
Even though baseball is getting down to the most important part of the season, MLB is officially being pushed to the backseat today, as the NFL season kicks off with games on Wednesday and Thursday before we get our first football Sunday. College football already started the trend, but things really kick into “football season” gear when the NFL gets rolling; it's an unstoppable beast.
We're still focused on fantasy baseball in this column, though, so let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Jake Bennett, Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels
Bennett is in his first major league season, having racked up just under 100 innings so far. He has been very successful in essentially every area, holding a 3.34 ERA and doing very well limiting hits and homers. While his strikeout work is slightly below average, Bennett has been fantastic limiting walks, helping to lead to his overall success. Bennett was just OK with Ks in the minor leagues, so we might not be able to expect anything better than average in that area, but he is also just 25 and has plenty of time to develop.
The Angels are maybe our favorite target team right now, a clear bottom-five offensive team that is officially out of the postseason race and fighting for the worst record in baseball. There isn't an area where Los Angeles excels or makes up for shortcomings elsewhere; even after hitting home runs at a decent rate early in the season, they are now in the bottom five in that category, losing everything that had any intrigue. Most importantly for our purposes, the Angels strike out as much as any team in baseball, setting a great ceiling for opposing fantasy pitchers.
Bennett is a mid-level streamer. He could even be argued a half-notch higher given his success and the great matchup, but Bennett's strikeout work is a bit worse than average, and as a rookie, it's best to show just a little hesitancy on expecting too much.
Cody Bradford, Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners
The Mariners have an argument as our second-favorite target right now behind the Angels. Seattle ranks last in runs, hits, doubles, and batting average, and they are in the bottom 10 in everything else aside from home runs and walks, where they sit in the middle. The Mariners also strike out at a top-10 rate, setting a nice ceiling for opposing pitchers; there's not really any downside to going after Seattle. A team that was one game from the World Series last year is probably going to miss the playoffs because their offense has been brutally bad.
Bradford missed all of 2025 and didn't debut this season until August 5 while recovering from elbow surgery (an alternative to Tommy John). It has been a bit of a struggle, as Bradford has allowed 41 hits and 15 runs in 30 1/3 innings, but it's a very small sample. Bradford has been mostly average in his career, though he only has 162 2/3 innings to his name, so we don't have enough information to know what to really expect, and it makes sense that he could struggle with inconsistency more in his return from a long layoff.
Bradford is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He is very good at limiting walks, but Bradford has also been extremely low with strikeouts in his short time, leaving a low ceiling. The matchup is the only thing that gives him a little more hope.
Davis Martin, Chicago White Sox vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh has been a common friend here recently on our streaming list, as their season-long numbers are very good, but their performance over the past month-plus has been the opposite. The Pirates rank in the bottom five in most offensive box stats over the last 30 days, not just falling to below average but looking like one of the worst lineups in baseball. Their playoff hopes are hanging on by just a thread, and three straight series against probable playoff teams (including this one) might bring an end to that pursuit altogether. Pittsburgh is one of the teams fighting with the Angels for most strikeouts, setting a nice ceiling.
Martin has been a very average pitcher this season, doing a little better than that level with walks and home runs but also a little worse than average with strikeouts, though he's close enough to the middle given that he's a starter. Martin's numbers in 2026 are all in line with his career stats, not showing much good luck, bad luck, or outlying work. After very good numbers in April and May, Martin has struggled the past few months, though he is coming off a game against the Astros in which he allowed no runs in 5 2/3 innings with three Ks and one BB.
Martin is a low-to-mid-level streamer. Pittsburgh had a big day yesterday, winning 9-3 against these same White Sox, but their recent numbers show that as the exception, not the rule. I'm interested in targeting them until we see more September success.
Zebby Matthews, Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers
Matthews has mixed good and bad outings this season, another guy who is good with walks but also below average with strikeouts. He was better with Ks in his first two abbreviated seasons but had worse results overall, so this version of his work where he strikes out fewer hitters but also doesn't get hit as hard might be best for him. The 26-year-old pitcher is just 234 innings into his career, so things could get better, but there are limits to his performance right now.
Detroit has been at their worst recently. Over the past month, the Tigers rank in the bottom five in runs, hits, home runs, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. They also strike out at a top-10 rate, setting a nice ceiling for opposing fantasy pitchers. Their season-long numbers are just below average, not basement-level, but the Tigers have been one of the worst offensive teams in the league recently, leaving them as a strong target.
Matthews is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He has been good enough at times to consider bumping up another level, but there have also been struggles, and with his lower strikeout rate, it's best to temper expectations just a bit.
