Fantasy Basketball 12-Team Mock Draft: Building a Team From Pick No. 6

Let's do our second fantasy basketball mock draft of the year, but this time against real people, not in FantasySP's simulator.

This 12-team setup was done on Yahoo. I got the No. 6 pick in this category-scoring league. The categories are: field goal percentage, free throw percentage, 3-pointers made, points scored, total rebounds, assists, steals, blocked shots and turnovers.

The roster includes one starter at point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, guard and forward, two centers and two utility spots. There are three bench slots to round out the 13-player roster.

Round 1 - Tyrese Maxey

I decided to take Maxey to open my mock draft.

Sure, he's part of a stacked 76ers' roster now, but I still believe Maxey will be the team's top fantasy player, and he's a good fantasy player to build around.

Round 2 - Alperen Sengun

I went with a big man in round 2 with Sengun.

He can stuff the stat sheet, and is a player to build around at his position. I think Sengun can still take his game up another level or two as well, so a career fantasy season could be coming.

Round 3 - Jalen Brunson

Brunson in round 3 feels like a steal to me.

I have to use him in the guard spot with Maxey already at point guard, so I should be stacked at PG by the end of this draft, even if I don't select another.

Round 4 - Donovan Clingan

I grabbed a second center here with Clingan.

I like how his career has trended up and think he continues to be more efficient, so I really like this pick. He'll stuff the stat sheet for me, and that's what I want in a category setup.

Round 5 - Paolo Banchero

I landed another power forward here in Banchero, who fills the forward spot since Sengun is my PF already. 

Banchero should lead the Magic in 2026-27, filling the stat sheet pretty well. I'm really happy with this pick, and how my team looks so far.

Round 6 - Julius Randle

Randle is yet another power forward, so he is already put in a utility spot.

He moved teams, and while he's on a worse one now, I think he delivers well for fantasy owners. There's a chance he's Brooklyn's top fantasy player.

Round 7 - Dylan Harper

Harper is a player I really like, so getting him in round 7 feels like another big win.

He fills my shooting guard slot, and should be headed toward a career season with San Antonio. There's talent around Harper, but still plenty of production out there for the young guard.

Round 8 - Norman Powell

Powell fills my small forward spot, while also being eligible at shooting guard.

I like his outlook with the Bulls and think he could turn into a great draft value pick, and possibly a big draft steal.

Round 9 - Wendell Carter Jr.

Carter gives me my second center and fills out my “starting lineup.”

His outlook isn't spectacular, but he's a double-double threat with enough minutes, and I think he plays enough to possibly offer some good value, so I took a gamble on him.

Round 10 - Jusuf Nurkic

A bit unsure of the Carter pick, I followed him up with another center in Nurkic.

He looks like the starting center for Utah, who might be better than what most people expect. Nurkic can stuff the stat sheet, so I'm hoping he does just that and becomes another good value pick.

Round 11 - Yaxel Lendeborg

I wanted to take some upside players to round out my team, so I tried the rookie Lendeborg here.

He should have a notable role in his first NBA season with the Warriors, who will need him to do a good amount of work every night. I think that bodes well for his fantasy outlook, so he's a solid PF selection in my eyes.

Round 12 - Reed Sheppard

I got another guard in round 12 with Sheppard.

I've liked him since he came into the league, and I'm hoping he continues to improve his numbers in 2026-27. As a depth option, I just need him to be a serviceable starter when my other guard/utility spots aren't all full, and I think he'll be at least that.

Round 13 - Keaton Wagler

I took another high-upside rookie here in Wagler.

He could start right away, and should play enough even if he's coming off the bench. Wagler doesn't need to star for me, but if he does, I really think my team would shine.

Final Thoughts

I felt pretty good during this mock draft, and looking at the roster after things wrapped up, I'm still feeling good about things.

I feel really strong at point guard, where Maxey, Brunson, Harper or Sheppard can play. This position might lead my team in 2026-27.

Harper, Sheppard, Powell and Wagler are options at shooting guard. I like the talent I assembled there, even without a top-end talent. I think these four could get me through the season still.

Powell was my only SF pick, so that could definitely be an issue. I'd likely have looked to trade for a small forward before the season started, as only having one option there could hurt me in the long run.

Power forward is maybe a spot I could trade from, as I have Sengun, Banchero, Randle and Lendeborg who are all eligible there. I'd probably look to flip Randle for a small forward, as I'm not as attached to him as I am to the other three at the position.

Center could also be a spot I traded from, as I have Sengun, Clingan, Carter and Nurkic. I'd look to move Carter, and maybe package him and Randle to go after a top-end SF.

Overall though, I'd still be very confident in this team if this was my actual fantasy team. There are some really good talents on the team, and not many risks, so I'd expect to at least compete for a playoff spot.
